Hearing to start in January in case of journalist shot in the street in 2021 who was adviser to a witness in trial of a Dutch drug baron

Nine men suspected of the murder of prominent Dutch crime reporter Peter R de Vries will go on trial in January, a Dutch court has announced, with a verdict expected by the summer.

De Vries was gunned down on a busy Amsterdam street on 6 July 2021, shortly after leaving a TV studio where he had appeared as a guest on a programme.

The 64-year-old died nine days after he was shot in a crime that prosecutors said was linked to his role in the trial of a Dutch drug mafia kingpin.

Two suspects, identified only as Dutch man Delano G and Kamil E from Poland, were arrested shortly after the incident, which shocked the Netherlands and threw a spotlight on the growing drug trade in the country.

The two men went on trial in June last year, with prosecutors calling for life sentences against them, but a verdict was postponed after new information emerged that judges said needed to be added to the case.

During the hearing, prosecutors accused Delano G of pulling the trigger and Kamil E of driving the getaway car and carrying out surveillance before the shooting.

The two denied the charges and declined to testify in court.

Seven other suspects were subsequently arrested in the investigation.

The trial proper will now start on 23 January, with 12 days set aside by the judges, the Amsterdam district court said on its website.

“A verdict [is] expected in around June,” the court said.

The murder of De Vries in broad daylight stunned the Netherlands, where he was a household name with his own TV show, and sparked outrage across Europe.

De Vries first won fame for reporting on the 1983 kidnapping of millionaire Freddy Heineken.

Prosecutors have said they suspect De Vries was killed because of his role as adviser to a state witness, Nabil B, in the trial of an alleged drug baron, Ridouan Taghi, who was arrested in Dubai in 2019. Taghi has pleaded not guilty to the charges in his trial.

YES IT IS WIKI BUT THE INTERNET HAS BEEN SCRUBBED APART FROM THIS

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teteringen_Girl

The Teteringen Girl (Dutch: Meisje van Teteringen; French: La jeune fille de Teteringen[1]) is an unidentified woman found dead on 25 December 1990 in the Cadettenkamp forest outside of Teteringen, a village northeast of Breda, Netherlands. She is one of the 22 unidentified women mentioned in Interpol's Operation Identify Me.

Circumstances

The Teteringen Girl was found by hikers near a trail near Galgestraat and Cadettenkamp (close to the A27 Motorway) on Christmas Day, 1990. The body was wrapped in a rug and covered with several blankets. She was wearing a red turtleneck sweater from a brand called Carine (which could only be purchased in Belgium at the time)[2] and burgundy red corduroy trousers. She was not wearing socks, undergarments, or shoes.[3]

Physical characteristics

The Teteringen Girl was 163 cm tall (approximately five feet four inches), with an olive complexion, and is estimated to have been between the ages of 15 and 25 at the time of her death.

Her cause of death was determined to be starvation and exhaustion.[4] Her body was emaciated, with bite marks on her skin. There was also evidence that cigarettes had been put out on her skin as well.[5]

She was of Moroccan descent.[6]

Investigation

It is believed that the Teteringen Girl lived in the Netherlands or another central European country (such as Belgium, France, Luxembourg, or Germany) for at least five years before her death.[7] Although arrests were made after the discovery of her body, the case went cold.

In 2006, her body was exhumed for further investigation.[8] It was determined via DNA that she had ties to a Moroccan community in Antwerp, Belgium.[9] In 2023, her case was one of the 22 listed in Interpol's Operation Identify Me.
