Kiev used ATACMS and Storm Shadow missiles to attack Russia’s Bryansk Region, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said
Russian anti-aircraft defenses have repelled a large-scale Ukrainian attack on Bryansk Region, downing a dozen Western-supplied missiles and over 30 drones, the Defense Ministry in Moscow said on Tuesday.
The ministry reported the details of the overnight attack in its daily briefing, stating that Ukrainian forces used six US-made ATACMS ballistic missiles and six Franco-British Storm Shadow cruise missiles. Some 31 fixed-wing kamikaze drones were also used in the attack, it added.
All the projectiles were intercepted by anti-aircraft defenses, the military said, adding that two other Storm Shadow missiles were shot down over the Black Sea. The missiles appeared to be heading for the Crimean Peninsula, one of the main targets of Ukrainian long-range attacks during the conflict with Russia.
During the attack, some 42 private homes were damaged and one completely destroyed by falling debris of the shot-down missiles, Bryansk governor Aleksandr Bogomaz has said. No one was injured during the strike, he added.
According to media reports, the attack on Bryansk Region appeared to target the town of Seltso, which lies just to the northwest of the regional capital and hosts a major chemical plant.
Ukrainian forces have repeatedly staged long-range attacks on Russian soil in recent weeks using Western-supplied ballistic and cruise missiles. Kiev began using the weaponry to target internationally-recognized Russian territory late last year, after several of its Western backers lifted restrictions on the use of long-range systems they had been supplying.
Moscow has repeatedly warned that the attacks make the US-led NATO military bloc a direct party to the conflict, pointing out that Kiev would not be able to use such sophisticated systems without the involvement of Western specialists.

Hamas Accepts US-Mediated Ceasefire, Netanyahu Convenes Urgent Security Cabinet Meeting
Officials have told the Associated Press on Tuesday that Hamas has accepted a draft agreement for Gaza ceasefire and hostage release, a day after President Biden said the sides are "on the brink" of reaching a breakthrough agreement.
This indeed may be the closest the negotiating sides have come to reaching a deal, after more than a year of failed attempts. "The ball is now in Hamas’s court. If Hamas accepts, the deal is ready to be concluded and implement it," Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said, strongly suggesting that Israel has already accepted. Blinken emphasized the deal is "ready to be concluded and implemented."
However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has not confirmed acceptance, and there's been frustration in the past over last minute additions from the Israeli side which has blown up draft agreements. But a final Netanyahu decision is said to be just hours away, and a deal could be proclaimed by Wednesday morning.

EU Scientific Advisors Call For Moratorium On Solar Geoengineering, Aerosol Injection
A scientific advisory board has called on the European Union to halt solar geoengineering technologies while calling for a “global governance system” to tackle the issue.
A group of scientists and policymakers have recommended the European Union support a Europe-wide moratorium on using a controversial geoengineering technique known as solar geoengineering.
The scientists warn that the benefits and risks of solar geoengineering proposals are “highly uncertain”. They state that deploying the technology could impact the climate in different parts of the world and “would be difficult to predict and difficult to manage in practice.”
The group also called for ensuring that any future research on solar geoengineering is “rigorous, ethical and explicit about uncertainties”, and for reassessing the “risks and potential opportunities” every five to ten years.
The recommendations were first detailed in a December 2024 report by the Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM), an organization which provides “independent scientific evidence” and policy recommendations to the College of European Commissioners. The SAM is made up of three sub organizations, including the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors, seven scientists whose job is to make recommendations to the EU.
Support and opposition to geoengineering technologies have been growing over the last decade as a potential solution for alleged climate related disasters. There are several types of geoengineering, including Solar Radiation Management (SRM) or solar geoengineering. Stratospheric aerosol injection, or SAI, is a specific solar geoengineering practice which involves spraying aerosols into the sky in an attempt to deflect the Sun’s rays.
“For decades, technologies have been proposed that would reduce or counteract global warming by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. These proposals, known as “solar radiation modification” technologies, include stratospheric aerosol injection, cloud brightening, and others,” the report states.
While the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors note that climate models show potential for fighting “global warming” with geoengineering, they also acknowledge that it could have both intended and unintended impacts.
“They could have negative impacts on ecosystems, change rainfall patterns, and hamper food production,” the scientists wrote. “Any large-scale intervention in our common planetary environment would have systemic consequences.”
Aarti Gupta, a professor of global environmental governance at Wageningen University and part of the team that produced the report which guided the scientists, told The Guardian it was “crucially important” the EU calls for a moratorium on SRM.
“Most crucially, the EU now needs to show global leadership in pushing for an international ‘non-deployment’ regime on SRM,” Gupta stated.

Siddiq allegedly helped organize meetings with the Kremlin, which financed much of the scheme.
Siddiq lives in a multi-million pound home in London owned by a businessman said to be linked to her aunt’s party. She also owns a London apartment said to have been gifted to her by one of her aunt’s allies. Israeli Strikes Kill 38 Palestinians in Gaza Amid Talk of Ceasefire Deal
Among the dead were two children killed by an Israeli attack while sheltering in a tent in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. Sources told Al Jazeera that a total of 28 Palestinians were killed in central and southern Gaza.

Hani Mahmoud, an Al Jazeera reporter in central Gaza, said there was cautious optimism among Palestinians over the reports of a ceasefire deal being close. “Everybody’s anxious and waiting, but there are still people who keep saying that they have been let down so many times in the past,” he said.
“There is still caution surrounding their optimism, given that there was no ceasefire deal in the past. They remember when they were told the last time there were talks in Cairo, the Israeli military invaded the northern part of the Gaza Strip,” Mahmoud added.

A delegation of extremist Israeli Jewish settler leaders has been invited to participate in US President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration next Monday in Washington, Israel Hayom reported on 13 January.
The delegation comprises Yesha Council chairman and Benjamin Regional Council Head Israel Ganz, Oranit Council Head Or Piron-Zomer, Yesha Council CEO Omer Rahamim, and Samaria Regional Council Head Yossi Dagan.
The group will attend the inauguration as official guests and will hold meetings with incoming administration officials and leaders from the US Jewish and evangelical Christian communities. A similar delegation attended Trump’s 2017 inauguration.
“Our objective is to strengthen existing connections and forge new ones. Washington’s attention is elsewhere at present. Trump is focused on Greenland sovereignty matters, not Israel’s concerns in Judea and Samaria. Timing is crucial. We must proceed strategically and appropriately,” a council official told the Hebrew newspaper.
The Yesha Council and other regional authorities that oversee illegal settlement activity in the occupied West Bank – which they call Judea and Samaria –“have devoted considerable resources to cultivating relationships with Republican Party leadership in recent years,” Israel Hayom added.

‘Global emergency’: Nearly half the world’s adults hold antisemitic views — ADL survey
Worldwide study finds that 46% of population believes in a number of anti-Jewish tropes, 20% have never heard of the Holocaust
Nearly half of all adults worldwide hold significant antisemitic views and younger people are more likely to discriminate against Jews, according to an Anti-Defamation League survey released on Tuesday.
The global survey asked 58,000 respondents in 103 counties and territories if they agreed with 11 antisemitic tropes, such as “Jews’ loyalty is only to Israel” and “Jews have too much power in the business world.”
If respondents believed that more than half of the statements were true, they were categorized as having “significant antisemitic beliefs,” ADL chief Jonathan Greenblatt said in a briefing, calling the findings a “global emergency.”
“Why do attitudes matter so much? Because attitudes lead to action. When antisemitic views are normalized, when anti-Jewish bigotry takes root, it creates an environment where Jews become more vulnerable,” he said, tying the antisemitic views to incidents such as the attacks on Israelis in Amsterdam in November.
In total, 46 percent of adults backed a majority of the antisemitic tropes, representing around 2.2 billion people.
The level of antisemitism varied widely by country and region. The Middle East and North Africa had the highest levels, with around three-quarters of respondents endorsing a majority of the antisemitic statements. Antisemitism was most prevalent in the West Bank and Gaza at 97%, followed by Kuwait and Bahrain. Fifty-nine percent of the region held a favorable view of the Hamas terror group.
Iran was the least antisemitic of the 18 countries in the region, with 49% of respondents holding significant antisemitic views.
Greenblatt ascribed the widespread Jew-hatred in the region to Al Jazeera, calling the news network a “nonstop fountain of antisemitism.” Al Jazeera’s Arabic coverage differs significantly from its English-language coverage, and Iran is the only country in the region, besides Israel, that does not mainly speak Arabic.
Western Europe was the least antisemitic region, at 17%, followed by the Americas at 24%; Oceania, 20%; sub-Saharan Africa, 45%; Eastern Europe, 49%; Asia, 51%, and the Middle East and North Africa, 76%.

Supreme Court Declines to Block State Investigation of Doctors Questioning COVID-19 Policies
The U.S. Supreme Court on Jan. 13 rejected an emergency application to block the Washington Medical Commission from investigating licensed physicians in the state over their criticism of COVID-19 policies.
The Washington state commission considers the doctors’ dissenting views on the disease to be potentially dangerous misinformation that should be suppressed. The physicians counter that just because they have medical licenses they don’t surrender their free speech rights under the First Amendment.
The nation’s highest court rejected the application for an injunction in Stockton v. Ferguson. No justices dissented. The court did not explain its decision.
The doctors previously asked Justice Elena Kagan to grant the injunction, and she declined to do so on Nov. 20, 2024. They then asked Justice Clarence Thomas on Nov. 22 to consider it, and on Dec. 4, he scheduled the application for consideration by the justices at their private conference on Jan. 10.
Supreme Court rules allow an application that has been denied by one justice to be presented to another justice. Neither Thomas nor Kagan explained their respective decisions.
The application was brought by former professional basketball player John Stockton along with Drs. Richard Eggleston, Thomas Siler, Daniel Moynihan, another 50 unidentified medical doctors, and the Children’s Health Defense, a nonprofit founded by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
President-elect Donald Trump, who will be inaugurated on Jan. 20, has nominated Kennedy to be secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Kennedy, an attorney, is also listed as co-counsel on the application.
The applicants filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington, which denied the injunction on May 22, 2024. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit denied the injunction on Sept. 3, 2024.
The lawsuit remains pending in the Ninth Circuit.
The Supreme Court’s new ruling means the case will continue before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, where oral argument has been scheduled for the week of May 12, he said.
“It was a long shot to ask the justices to take over a case during the pendency of an appeal, but we thought it was worth the effort because the basic idea that the state can sanction a physician for speaking out in public about a matter of public interest seems so un-American and at odds with every judge and justice who have written about this issue,” Jaffe said.
“We will continue to remind the courts and those who currently control the medical narrative that in the shifting winds of time, science, and politics, what is reviled and ridiculed may become accepted, and that which had been accepted may become disfavored.”

JBLM Army doctor admits he sexually abused dozens of soldiers
The soldiers’ stories were strikingly similar.
On the eighth floor of Madigan Army Medical Center, Maj. Michael D. Stockin would see patients who were in pain, then give a medical reason for why he needed them to take off their pants and underwear.
One patient came in with thoracic back pain in 2020. Stockin touched his genitals, checking for “nerve damage.” Stockin told a retired officer, who was being treated for neck pain, he needed to check his groin for neuropathy in June 2021. A sergeant first class with degenerative disc disease came to Stockin in January 2022. He was told the groping was part of a sensory test.
None of those “exams” were medically necessary, Stockin told a military judge Wednesday.
The anesthesiologist pleaded guilty this week to sexual misconduct involving dozens of soldiers he treated for pain management from 2019 to 2022 at Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Lakewood, Pierce County.
Stockin entered guilty pleas for 36 counts — known as “specifications” in military court — of abusive sexual contact and five counts of indecent viewing.
Stockin, an anesthesiologist and pain-management physician, started working at Madigan in 2019. According to the U.S. Army Office of Special Trial Counsel, he would ask male patients to remove their underwear, then touch their genitalia under the guise of medical care. In several cases, he would take them to a separate examination room without any witnesses.
The Army’s investigation into Stockin began in February 2022. After a year-plus investigation, he was charged with 23 counts of abusive sexual contact and indecent viewing. By January 2024, the number had grown to 41 male accusers.
He entered a plea agreement with Army prosecutors in September, according to the office.
He pleaded guilty Tuesday, the day his trial was scheduled to start at the Cascade Courtroom Complex on JBLM. On Wednesday, details of patients’ allegations were outlined in a hearing unique to a court-martial, where a military judge elicits facts from the accused person before accepting the guilty plea.
The touching was intentional, for his own sexual curiosity and arousal, Stockin told Judge Col. Larry Babin on Wednesday.
Some of the former patients heard their own stories in the courtroom Tuesday and Wednesday. The outcome doesn’t take away their pain and shame, but “there will be some semblance of justice,” Ryan Guilds, an attorney representing seven victims, said Tuesday after Stockin’s guilty pleas.
As lawyers, he and his colleagues are proud of their clients, Guilds emphasized Wednesday. It was important for the soldiers to hear Stockin answer specific questions about what he had done, Guilds said, and for them to hear what had happened to other soldiers.
Stockin, who is in his 30s, was previously an Army anesthesiologist at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland. After he started working at Madigan, he was deployed to Iraq from October 2020 to February 2021, according to the Army Office of Special Trial Counsel. He was suspended from patient care when the Army began its investigation in February 2022.
His court-martial is expected to continue this week, with the judge interrogating him on each count. His sentence, if the judge accepts his guilty plea, isn’t clear.
At least 22 people who say they were sexually abused by Stockin have filed Federal Tort Claims Act administrative complaints against the Army and Department of Defense, alleging the U.S. military was liable in failing to protect patients.
Those complaints are in the early stages.

US diplomats have revealed to media Washington's deep involvement in the war on Gaza, where tens of thousands of children have been killed.
US diplomats have revealed the prominent role Washington plays in the war on Gaza, from supplying the ammunition used in Israeli massacres to blocking details of Palestinian suffering in the besieged enclave.
A US diplomat based in the UAE with two decades of MENA experience, Hala Rharrit, told CBS News' 60 Minutes programme that she was effectively censored in the images and information she provided to the leadership in Washington about what was happening in Gaza.
Rharrit resigned from her position as Dubai Regional Media Hub's deputy director n April 2024 over her government's policy on the Gaza war, and after being told three months into the war that her reports were no longer needed.
"I would show the complicity that was indisputable. Fragments of US bombs next to massacres of.. mostly children. And that's the devastation. It's been overwhelmingly children," she told the broadcaster.
She was told she was effectively told to "shut up" when compiling the reports for the US government illustrating regional perceptions about Washington's role in the war on Gaza, made up of social media messages and Arabic-language articles. She also agreed that the Washinton's stance toward the Gaza war had "put a target on America's back".
"I would show images of children that were starved to death. In one incident, I was basically berated, 'Don't put that image in there. We don't wanna see it. We don't wanna see that the children are starving to death'," she added.
The scenes of children caused Rharrit to break down in tears, including one little girl, Aana al-Farra, whose death particularly affected her.
"One Pan-Arab channel one day did a report on a little girl that had been killed in an airstrike. But they put a picture of the little girl when she was alive," she said. "She has her princess dress, and she's in the picture waving her wand with a huge, beautiful smile. And, you know, I saw my child in that child.
Josh Paul, another leading State Department official who resigned due to the Gaza war, spoke about the prominent role Washington has played in keeping Israel armed, as Lancet reported last week that at least 70,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's onslaught on Gaza.
"Most of the bombs come from America. Most of the technology comes from America. And all of the fighter jets, all of Israel's fixed-wing fleet - comes from America," he told the broadcaster.
"There is a linkage between every single bomb that is dropped in Gaza and the US because every single bomb that is dropped is dropped from an American-made plane."
When asked if Israeli airstrikes on Gaza are 'made in America', he responded: "They are."
This included the destruction of a whole neighbourhood in Gaza City shortly after Hamas's 7 October attacks when 100 people were killed including 81 women and children, according to Airwars, with US-made 2,000 pound bombs used in the massacre, sources told CBS.
"The Israelis were using those bombs in some instances to target one or two individuals in densely packed areas. And in enough instances, we saw that was in question, how Israel was using it. And those weapons were suspended," Paul told CBS, referring to President Joe Biden's temporary freeze on 2,000 pound bombs going to Israel.
Andrew Miller, former deputy assistant secretary of state for Israeli-Palestinian affairs who also resigned during the Gaza war, also said Washington had failed to issue any red lights to the Israeli government over the use of American weaponry.

Cuba has filed a declaration that it will join South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, the court announced on Monday.
“Cuba, invoking Article 63 of the Statute of the Court, filed in the Registry of the Court a declaration of intervention in the case concerning Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip,” the court said in a statement.
In December 2023, South Africa instituted proceedings against Israel, claiming violations of the Genocide Convention in relation to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Several countries have since joined the case, including Nicaragua, Colombia, Libya, Mexico, Palestine, Spain, and Türkiye.
Israel has continued its brutal offensive on Gaza since a Hamas attack in October 2023 despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire.
Nearly 46,600 people, most of them women and children, have since been killed and over 105,000 injured, according to local health authorities.
The Israeli onslaught has displaced almost the entire population of the territory amid an ongoing blockade that has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, leaving most of the strip an uninhabitable wasteland.

New Israeli Film Paints Sympathetic Picture of Jewish Terrorists Who Tried to Murder Millions
An upcoming Israeli film that sympathetically portrays a group of Jewish terrorists who attempted to murder millions of German civilians by poisoning their water supply is enjoying uncritical publicity in Zionist media.
The film, “Plan A,” is based on a true story that director Yoav Paz extensively researched through recently unveiled testimony as well as the book Li Nakam Veshilem (Vengeance and Retribution are Mine) by historian Dina Porat.
Following the end of the second world war, a group of approximately 50 Jews led by communist partisan and Israeli national poet Abba Kovner formed a group called “Nakam,” or “the avengers.”
The group concocted a scheme to infiltrate post-war Europe and kill millions of German citizens by adding arsenic to their drinking water — a plot they called “Plan A.” Were that to fail, they had a “Plan B” where they would poison German soldiers held in Allied prisoner of war camps. According to Kovner’s testimony, the future first president of Israel Chaim Weizmann aided his organization in the operation.
“Plan A” failed when British security forces intercepted members of Nakam and they were forced to throw their supply of poison overboard of their ships. Individuals in the Zionist movement also believed that a terrorist attack of such a magnitude would’ve caused diplomatic problems for the soon to be founded Zionist state and may have tipped the British off.
Eventually they succeeded in partially achieving “Plan B.” They infiltrated the American run Langwasser internment camp and were able to poison thousands of captive German soldiers by putting arsenic in their bread. While many were seriously ill, the New York Times claimed at the time that there were no known deaths, though this incident has no been closely investigated. The criminals in question were thwarted in their other operations but released after a few months.
According to Paz and his brother and co-writer Doran, the point of their movie is not to examine “right and wrong” or “black and white,” but instead to make Jewish viewers sympathize with the Nakam’s mindset and actions.
Stephen Applebaum at Jewish News appears to come away with the message the directors were trying to convey, “Putting yourself in the shoes of the Avengers today is a queasy sensation. Their suffering and loss is made palpable in the film, but so is the suffering, loss and horror they planned to inflict on millions. What would you have done? Hopefully, none of us will ever need to find out.”
Though “Plan A” is in English and has a relatively well-known cast, including German actor August Diehl and “Bladerunner 2049’s” Sylvia Hoeks, there are not many reviews for the upcoming feature set to debut in America and Europe on September 13th.
Cath Clarke at The Guardian is so far the single exception, but she focuses on the film’s technical failures rather than the dark message suggesting that Jews should consider indiscriminately killing people from ethnic groups they have grievances or grudges against. A film promoting such a dangerous message in any other racial and historical context would’ve undoubtedly garnered much more controversy.
