MSNBC boss Rashida Jones announced she is leaving as the left-leaning network’s ratings continue to plunge — and days before President-elect Donald Trump returns to the White House, the company said Tuesday.
Jones, who has helmed the NBC Universal-owned cable network for four years, broke the news of her immediate departure in a memo to staffers.
“After four incredible years at the helm of MSNBC and 11 years at NBCU, I have made the decision to pursue new opportunities,” Jones wrote.
An MSNBC spokesperson confirmed the reports when reached by The Post.
She will be replaced on an interim basis by Rebecca Kutler, senior vice president of content strategy, the company said.
Her exit had been widely hinted at after parent company Comcast announced last month it was planning to spin off MSNBC and other cable properties into a new publicly traded entity, SpinCo.
The new entity would be led by veteran executive Mark Lazarus.
