OKLAHOMA CITY: "Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters has filed a $474 million lawsuit against the leaders of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Walters said he filed the lawsuit against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and ICE Deputy Director Peter Flores, seeking compensation for the "severe financial and operational strain that their failed border policies have on Oklahoma's public schools. He claims the two "utterly abandoned their constitutional duty" to secure the U.S. border, leaving Oklahoma to "pick up the pieces."

The state superintendent said in a news release that Oklahoma taxpayers have taken on millions of additional dollars because of their actions and diverted resources that could have been used for Oklahoma children. He also said the lawsuit claims President Joe Biden and Mayorkas's "failure to secure the border violates their responsibility to uphold national security, leaving states to handle the fallout."

The lawsuit is Walters' latest call for federal officials to compensate Oklahoma for the cost of illegal immigration. In October, he demanded that Vice President Kamala Harris have the federal government reimburse the state $474.9 million for failing to secure the border."
