On Sunday, three Israeli hostages, Romi Gonen, Emily Damari, and Doron Steinbrecher, were released and handed over to the Red Cross.
The young women have now been reunited with their families.
However, disturbing details of their ordeal have surfaced, including that the three women were held for at least part of their 471 days in captivity within United Nations shelters.
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared on X, “Former hostages Romi, Emily, and Doron were held in United Nations shelters in Gaza, which were meant for civilians. The UN refuses to condemn Hamas for hiding hostages in civilian spaces.”
The revelation underscores President Trump’s decision to suspend funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) as part of a decision to suspend any foreign assistance for 90 days pending reviews.
In August 2024, The Gateway Pundit reported that UNRWA admitted that nine of its staff members may have been involved in the heinous Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
This admission is not just a minor oversight; it highlights a disturbing pattern of complicity and negligence within an organization that claims to uphold humanitarian values.
Philippe Lazzarini, the UNRWA Commissioner-General, confirmed that an investigation by the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) found evidence that could suggest these staff members were involved in the attacks.

The IDF also revealed that a top-secret Hamas subterranean data center was discovered beneath the headquarters of UNRWA in Gaza.
According to The Times of Israel, “The subterranean data center — complete with an electrical room, industrial battery power banks and living quarters for Hamas terrorists operating the computer servers — was built precisely under the location where Israel would not consider looking initially, let alone target in an airstrike.”

According to The Washington Free Beacon, which obtained a copy of the State Department order signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, U.S. embassies will be required to enforce a “one flag” policy worldwide.
This means that only the American flag can be flown, while any other type of flag is banned.
“Starting immediately, only the United States of America flag is authorized to be flown or displayed at U.S. facilities, both domestic and abroad, and featured in U.S. government content,” the order states.

Fatal opioid overdoses have steadily been on the rise in Canada, with deaths showing a consistent upward trend ever since the government first began nationally tracking the issue in 2016 until last year.
The Public Health Agency of Canada observed a dramatic elevation in deaths over the past eight years, tallying a total of 49,105 opioid toxicity deaths during that period.
While opioid deaths began to somewhat stabilize in 2024, they had been significantly increasing, going from less than 3,000 a year in 2026 to over 8,000 in 2023.
According to the government agency’s data, males 30 to 39 years of age are most likely to die from opioid toxicity, accounting for 72% of total deaths since 2016.
Regionally, British Columbia is home to an overwhelming majority of the “accidental apparent opioid toxicity deaths in Canada,” noted Public Health Canada, responsible for 84% of all deaths recorded last year.
Alberta and Ontario are the provinces that saw the next two highest figures of fatal overdoses
The bulk of accidental opioid deaths from January to June of last year involved fentanyl at 79%, up nearly double from from 2016 when fentanyl was a factor in 40% of deaths.
The majority of accidental deaths in 2024 (82%) involved non-pharmaceutical drugs.

Northwood Recovery Centre, an addiction clinic on a strip mall on Wellington Street West and Merton Street in Ottawa, has been the source of concern for the Hintonburg Community Association and parents of children from neighbouring schools.
Along with the addiction clinic and pharmacy, the neighbourhood is home to two elementary schools – St. Francois d’Assise and Sainte-Marie Mère de Dieu – plus a shared public park and a community centre 70 metres away from the strip mall.
Parents and community advocates say the presence of the addiction centre has created an unsafe environment around the school communities where theft, trafficking, discarded pill bottles – allegedly from patients of the clinic – and drug use have become regular occurrences.
Cheryl Parrott from the Hintonburg Community Association said she was assured by the owner of the facility in June that the “safe supply” site would have no impact on the neighbouring community. This hasn’t been the case, she said.
“They opened Sept. 9, and by Sept. 11, we saw people openly injecting nearby, and then we started finding empty prescription bottles, and it just escalated daily from that point on,” Parrott told True North in an interview. “We started finding empty prescription pill bottles discarded in the community with the labels on them, so we knew what they were prescribing and the quantities.”
Parrott claimed doctor from Northwood Recovery is prescribing opiate drugs such as Dilaudid to patients after assessing them over the phone. The clients are then allegedly directed a couple of doors down to Victoria Pharmacy, where they get their drugs and leave the premises. The clinic did not respond to a request for comment from True North.
“They’re not adequately monitoring or controlling the patients, so what we’re seeing is diversion of these drugs and drug dealers being drawn to the community to buy, trade or steal these medications from the patients,” Parrott said. “It’s creating a lot of social disorder. And real unsafe conditions.”
Though Northwood Recovery did not respond to True North’s requests to comment, the manager of Victoria Pharmacy, Kim Stewart, said she was aware that patients from Northwood use the pharmacy. Continue…

Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board trustees nearly unanimously voted against a motion to reverse its decision not to fly any flag other than the Canadian and Ontario flags from flagpoles at its schools.
After Tuesday night’s committee meeting and one school board trustee’s motion to enable the Pride flag to be flown at schools on the board was defeated, the Canadian flag, provincial flag, and DPCDSB flag will be the only ones allowed to fly.
The Canadian flag will be flown on the first flag pole. If there is a second flag pole at one of the school boards buildings, the Ontario flag will be flown, and in the rare case of three flag poles, only the DPCDSB flag can be flown.
Every trustee except for Brea Corbet, who put forward both the original defeated motion in June and Tuesday night’s motion, voted against the motion. All three student trustees also voted with Corbet though their votes aren’t counted in the decision, and if they were it wouldn’t have swayed the vote.
The meeting heard from over twenty delegates Wednesday night, most of whom were against the school board’s previous decision to limit flag pole use to civic flags.
For those in favour of flying the Pride flag, a common theme of wanting to protect kids from bullying and potential suicide was shared throughout, and the desire to ensure that kids who identify as LGBT+ know that they are welcome in the school board.
Matthew Wojciechowski, the Vice President of Campaign Life Coalition, and a father of two children in the school board spoke on behalf of his “pro-life and pro-family” organization against the defeated motion and the Pride flag. Continue…

The former deputy prime minister and finance minister quietly stepped down from the WEF Board of Trustees which she joined in 2019 alongside the likes of fellow Liberal leadership candidate Mark Carney.
She left without announcing her departure, either from her or the WEF.
Freeland’s profile page on the WEF’s website, which had listed her career highlights has been taken down.
During the COVID-19 pandemic and under Freeland’s authority as finance minister and deputy prime minister, the Trudeau government issued nearly $3 million dollars in payments to the WEF in taxpayer-funded grants and contributions.

The order aims to prevent Clearview AI from collecting facial biometric data for biometric comparison in the province without the targeted individuals’ consent.
The controversial company markets itself as “an investigative platform” that helps law enforcement identify suspects, witnesses, and victims.
Privacy advocates critical of Clearview AI’s activities, however, see it as a major component in the burgeoning facial surveillance industry, stressing in particular the need to obtain consent – via opt-ins – before people’s facial biometrics can be collected.
And Clearview AI is said to be subjecting billions of people to this, without consent. From there, the implications for privacy, free speech, and even data security are evident.
The British Columbia Commissioner appears to have been thinking along the same lines when issuing the order, that bans Clearview from selling biometric facial arrays taken from non-consenting individuals to its clients.
In addition, the order instructs Clearview to “make best efforts” to stop the practice in place so far, which includes collection, use, and disclosure of personal data – but also delete this type of information already in the company’s possession.
Right now, there is no time limit to how long Clearview can retain the data, which it collects from the internet using an automated “image crawler.”
Clearview moved to try to get the order dismissed as “unreasonable,” arguing that on the one hand, it is unable to tell if an image of a persons face is that of a Canadian, while also claiming that no Canadian law is broken since this biometric information is available online publicly.
The legal battle, however, revealed that images of faces of residents of British Columbia, children included, are among Clearview’s database of more than three billion photos (of Canadians) – while the total figure is over 50 billion.
The court also finds the Commissioner’s order to be very reasonable indeed – including when rejecting “Clearview’s bald assertion” that, in British Columbia, “it simply could not do” what it does in the U.S. state of Illinois, to comply with the Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA).

The NZBA is a subgroup of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), which was founded and backed by the United Nations.
