H1B's were created, and used effectively, in the same way that unchecked illegal immigration was: to pick a specific area of employment and destroy the salary ranges for it.

They exported manufacturing, thereby crippling many middle class families who went back to school and moved up the chain, putting downward pressure on salaries for those already in the fields not exported.

The working class jobs that still paid well that couldn't be exported (think plumber etc) were flooded with illegals so that the working salary wasn't enough to provide a middle class life here, but was enough to enable other nationals (illegals) to potentially work here for 5-10 years and return home retired.

Now that they'd destroyed manufacturing, and imported low cost labor for the middle class jobs that most Americans could work, they decided that tech, science, and medicine all paid too well and thus the H1-B visa was born: a way to destroy the salaries of those who studied STEM and replace those US citizens with indentured servants.

Part of the appeal of H1-B visas were the same as importing illegals: NO RIGHTS. Illegals complain about working conditions, just call la migra. H1B employee getting uppity? Revoke their job and they're auto deported.

The illegals and H1B's are indentured servants at BEST and the REAL problem is the companies that hire either. The companies, managers, bosses, contractors, etc that hire illegals or H1B's are the REAL traitors to the US and should be the first thing dealt with.

Imagine, if you can't get a job or rent a home, you'll eventually self deport. Works great for Japan.

+1 on the cheap labor.

Another aspect is the idea that it's indentured servitude or even outright slavery just with extra steps, since H1B visas are tied to the JOB.

Just like with illegals, it's a great way to remove workers protections while also depressing wages.

Anyone ever wonder why IT doesn't have to pay overtime, even though it's a federal law? SSDD.
