The 1917 US Navy Cutlass was a standard-issue cutlass used by the United States Navy during World War I and World War II. It is also commonly referred to as the Model 1917 cutlass or simply, the "navy cutlass". The design of this weapon was inspired by older naval swords from previous centuries but included several modern updates such as a shorter blade length of around 24 inches and an improved hilt for better hand protection.

The navy cutlass was primarily used as either sidearms or boarding weapons, intended for close-quarters combat on board ships. It became popular among sailors due to its simple yet effective design that allowed for quick strikes in tight spaces without getting stuck in narrow passages. The navy cutlasses were mainly manufactured by Collins & Company and Springfield Armory between the years of 1917 and 1941.
