Ukraine Russian War Death Toll
The Russo-Ukrainian War has resulted in significant casualties on both sides. According to various sources, the death tolls are as follows:
Ukrainian Forces: As of January 1, 2025, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reports that 4,400 Ukrainian soldiers were killed between April 6, 2014, and December 31, 2021. The UALosses project and the Museum of Military History report 4,647 and 4,853 killed respectively between April 6, 2014, and February 23, 2022. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that 43,000 Ukrainian troops had been killed since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022, with an additional 370,000 wounded.
Russian Forces: The Russian Ministry of Defense reports that Russian forces have suffered 800,010 casualties between February 24, 2022, and January 7, 2025, which includes both dead and wounded. Independent analysis by the BBC Russian Service and Mediazona estimates that up to 220,000 Russian soldiers have been killed since 2022, with 2024 being the deadliest year.
