PROVIDENCE – Central Falls Municipal Court Judge Joseph Molina Flynn has resigned his position with that city following the FBI’s raid of his downtown Providence offices on Thursday morning.

Molina Flynn, once an undocumented immigrant from Colombia who would become an immigration attorney, became the first previously undocumented person to serve on the bench in Central Falls back in 2021.

It wasn’t immediately clear what Thursday’s raid was tied to.

FBI representatives have confirmed to media outlets that the agency served a court-authorized search warrant at Molina Flynn’s Dorrance Street offices, but aren’t commenting on specifics.

Central Falls Mayor Maria Rivera aid that Associate Judge Robert McConnell will serve in Molina Flynn’s place until the vacancy is filled.

"I was deeply concerned to see the reports of an FBI search at the law office of Joseph Molina Flynn,” she said. “As the Central Falls community knows, transparency and accountability are priorities of mine. In an effort to uphold the integrity and focus of the Municipal Court, Judge Molina Flynn has officially resigned his position.”

GoLocal was first to report on Thursday's raid.
