When Peter said it must never happen Jesus rebuked Peter calling him Satan, saying Peter did not have in mind the concerns of God but merely human concerns. So no, the Jews didn't kill Jesus. The one who handed Him over committed the greater sin. No one took His life, HE GAVE IT.
