>So thankful for a State Representative that cares about Americans more than their buddy’s profits. We have lived for over a decade in a war zone and been called racist because we complained. It is truly Morning in America Again.

COLONY RIDGE — Over the last 48 hours, a sweep by U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement has led to arrests of a large number of people with felony warrants suspected of
being in the country illegally.
Figures for the number of possible detainees were not available Friday night, Jan. 24.
The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Public Safety have assisted with a
few of these detentions, officials said.
“They are not making traffic stops or going door to door checking to see if people are here
illegally,” Liberty County Sheriff Bobby Rader said. “It is my understanding that ICE has a list of
people in the area that have active felony warrants. I was told that one of those arrested was
wanted for murder in El Salvador.”
The large, unincorporated community of Colony Ridge is home to many immigrants and
continues to grow, officials said. The sweep began just as the area recovered from an
unprecedented snowfall, rare for Southeast Texas.
The beginning of President Donal Trump’s second term was met with a flurry of executive
orders, one of specific interest to Liberty County regarding people living in the country illegally.
ICE is targeting undocumented violent criminals, according to the Trump administration.
“We gave them direction to prioritize public safety threats that we’re looking for,” Trump’s
“Border Czar” Tom Homan said in an interview with Fox News.
Cleveland Independent School District has many students from the Colony Ridge area.
“Staff and parents in CISD have captured footage of ICE in Colony Ridge. While I do not know
who ICE is picking up, we did have one cafeteria worker today receive a call notifying her that
her husband had been picked up,” Superintendent Stephen McCanless said.
He has noticed a dip in enrollment coinciding with the election of Trump, the educator said.
“Up until now, our enrollment number projections have been spot on. Based on the
projections, we should be at 13,500 students currently, but we are only at 12,500 students,”
McCanless said. “That results in a $6 million loss of funds for CISD.”
A portion of state funding for public school systems is based on attendance levels.
McCanless said operations will continue as normal and the school district will handle
interruptions as they come.
