Some members of His Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC) tax collecting agency are reportedly being given as much as one-fifth of their time at work off to focus on promoting leftist gender ideology.

An internal advertisement within Britain’s HMRC, seen by The Telegraph, seeking to fill a deputy chairman position for the tax collector’s LGBT+ staff network reportedly stated that the successful candidate would be given “20pc of your time to dedicate to network activities.”

“Your current role is not as important as your experience and drive to promote fairness,” the civil servants were told.

The paper identified at least three HMRC staff members as receiving their full pay while receiving the equivalent of one day off per week to focus on their role in the department’s Prism LGBT+ Network.

A whistleblower from the tax agency said that such staff members often use working hours to give presentations focussing on leftist gender ideology, including on what it means to be transgender and the importance of pronouns.

The unnamed HMRC civil servant, who declined to be named for fear of reprisals, told the paper that the network is essentially comprised of “trans activists” who are “getting paid by the taxpayer to do peer-to-peer political activism.”

In one such session, which lasted 45 minutes, staff were told the differences between so-called cisgender, intersex, non-binary, and transgender individuals. They were additionally pressed to share their own pronouns to show their “allyship” towards transgender staff and were educated on gender-neutral pronouns such as “zie/zen”.

State Department Reports Record Foreign Arms Sales in 2024

The State Department reports that US arms deals sold over $300 billion in weapons to foreign countries last year. The record-high sales include over $20 billion in arms paid for with US aid.

The State Department’s statement on 2024 arms sales explained that “the total value of transferred defense articles and services and security cooperation activities conducted under the Foreign Military Sales system was $117.9 billion.”

Compared to 2023, the State Department says last year’s totals represented an increase of 45.7%, adding, “This is the highest ever annual total of sales and assistance provided to our allies and partners.” According to the statement, $21 billion in the FMS was paid for with US aid.

In addition to the FMS, US arms deals brokered $200 billion in other transactions. “The total authorized value for privately contracted Direct Commercial Sales (DCS) authorizations for FY2024 was $200.8 billion,” the statement explained. “This represents a 27.5% increase, up from $157.5 billion in FY2023.”

Combined, the FMS and DCS sales total over $318 billion.

Most of the weapon sales went to US allies and partners in Europe, the Middle East or East Asia. In Europe, NATO countries continued to buy weapons at a rapid pace as they transferred older systems to Ukraine for the proxy war against Russia. China is the focus of American arm sales in East Asia as Washington prepares to fight a war with Beijing over Taiwan.

In the Middle East, Israel bought, often with US aid, billions in weapons from American arms deals. Tel Aviv is conducting what multiple international human rights organizations have identified as a genocide in Gaza. During the Biden administration, the State Department was flooded with hundreds of reports that American weapons were being used to kill civilians in Gaza.

The State Department asserted that the US arms transfers occurred in “accordance with the U.S. Conventional Arms Transfer Policy, and weighs political, social, human rights, civilian protection, economic, military, nonproliferation, technology security, and end use factors.”

However, the US military aid and arms sales to Israel violate multiple American laws as Israel is committing war crimes with US weapons, the IDF has blocked aid from reaching Gaza, and Tel Aviv has an undeclared nuclear weapons program.

‘Serious allegations of corruption’: Fox News sues LA County for declining to provide public records about Smartmatic relationship

Fox News sued Los Angeles County this week in an effort to pry away documents related to the municipality’s relationship with voting software and hardware company Smartmatic Corp.

Attorneys filed the public records lawsuit days after a New York-based court of appeals declined to dismiss Smartmatic’s $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit over false “conspiracy theories” about rigging the 2020 election which were allegedly reported by the network.

Fox News’ lawsuit alleges there is evidence of corruption between LA County and Smartmatic employees that occurred at some point during the bidding process for the provision of voting technology.

“Fox News brings this action to obtain public records that relate to the relationship between L.A. County and election systems company Smartmatic — two entities with recent and extensive allegations of corruption in government contracts,” the lawsuit reads. “Fox News has already uncovered evidence showing personal benefits, including some undisclosed, flowing from Smartmatic to one County official.”

This alleged evidence, the network claims, will be useful in defending against the defamation lawsuit. But, Fox News alleges, LA County has been less than forthcoming in providing the documents at issue in response to multiple open records requests.

“While the County has produced some records, it has refused to produce documents that are responsive to several categories of requests,” the lawsuit continues. “Even where the County has agreed to produce records, its production is missing many responsive documents. Several of these deficiencies concern documents relating to the head of a County agency who received personal benefits from Smartmatic. The County agency this individual oversaw was responsible for responding to some of Fox News’s CPRA requests.”

Specifically, the network’s lawsuit notes that “three current and former Smartmatic executives — including Smartmatic’s cofounder and president, Roger Piñate, Jr.” are charged in a federal indictment related to “an alleged bribery and money laundering scheme involving contracts awarded to administer the 2016 Philippine elections.”

Fox News says Smartmatic’s own website once trumpeted Piñate’s role in “Smartmatic’s winning the contracts both in the Philippines and with L.A. County.” Those favorable references to Piñate’s work, however, have been “removed since his indictment,” the lawsuit says.

“In light of the serious allegations of corruption with Smartmatic elsewhere, transparency surrounding the County’s awarding of Smartmatic’s contract is paramount,” the Fox News lawsuit reads.

To that end, the network says, they requested records “showing the interactions between Smartmatic employees and County elections officials in the years surrounding the 2020 election” as well as an out-sourced law firm report “covering the independent review of significant contracts awarded by the County between 2008 and 2020.”

The network also notes their efforts in trying to obtain a bevy of records related to Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder and County Clerk Dean Logan. The lawsuit says Logan and his office were “intimately involved in awarding the contract to Smartmatic.”

Russians Captured Fortified Bunkers Of NATO Officers In Chasov Yar

The battle for the city of Chasov Yar is gaining momentum. After their recent victories in different districts of the city LINK, Russian forces destroyed Ukrainian strongholds in the forest areas on its outskirts.

According to the latest reports from the battlefield, fighters of the Chechen Ahmat Special Forces and the 4th Brigade took control of Ukrainian stronghold in the forest southeast of Chasov Yar. The network of heavily fortified positions was built by the Ukrainian military on the territory of the recreation center Chasovyarets during the war in the Donbass before Russian Special Military Operation.

Chechen fighters reported that the stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine include large concrete bunkers for dozens of officers. They were reportedly captured and mopped up after a week of Russian attacks. The Ukrainian military lost more than 40 soldiers dead on this battlefield.

Later, the fortified stronghold was used by the militants of the 24th Lviv Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which is holding the defense in the city of Chasov Yar.

Battles for this fortified stronghold slowed down Russian advance on the southeastern outskirts of Chasov Yar. The retreating Ukrainian forces are also trying to resist in the area of the local lake located to the south of the recreation center but they are likely to loose control of their positions in the near future. Russian advance on the southern flank allows to reinforce Russian positions in the forest area to take the city in the pincer grip and support the ongoing offensive operations in the center of the city, as well as launch assault on the Shevchenko district on the southern outskirts, the last strongholds of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Chasov Yar.

Israel Considers Sending Weapons Seized in Lebanon to Ukraine

30 arrested in crackdown on Chinese human trafficking ring in Spain and Croatia

Victims trafficked by the group were identified in exploitation networks across multiple EU countries

A sophisticated Chinese criminal network involved in illegal immigration and human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation has been dismantled following a complex cross-border investigation coordinated by Europol.

On 17 December, law enforcement conducted raids at 14 properties across Barcelona (4), Madrid (9), and Toledo (1) in Spain, and one property in Zagreb in Croatia. These operations resulted in 30 arrests, among which were the leaders of the criminal network. In addition, EUR 180 000 in cash was also seized, alongside weapons, 70 passports, equipment to falsify passports and visas, narcotic substances, 10 high-end vehicles and 33 mobile phones. A total of 33 victims – Chinese and Vietnamese nationals – were also safeguarded.

This investigation builds on the dismantling of Europe’s largest Chinese prostitution ring in February 2023. Digital evidence seized during that operation has since then been meticulously analysed, including at a forensic sprint held at Europol’s headquarters in March 2023. During this sprint, experts from nine countries extracted tens of terabytes of data from hundreds of confiscated mobile phones.

The new intelligence provided unprecedented insights into the methods used by Chinese criminal networks in Europe, revealing a sophisticated division of labour and reliance on crime-as-a-service actors.

Two cells, one exploitation chain

The criminal organisation, composed primarily of Chinese nationals, profited significantly from the sexual exploitation of vulnerable women. To maximise profits, the group engaged in additional criminal activities, including document fraud, money laundering, and the facilitation of illegal immigration.

Victims were lured into prostitution in Europe under the promise of earning high income within a short timeframe. However, upon arrival, they were subjected to severe debt bondage and trapped in a cycle of exploitation they were unable to escape due to their vulnerabilities and dependence on the traffickers.

The organisation operated in two interconnected cells:

Recruitment and smuggling cell: Victims were recruited in China through "travel agencies" where they disguised the exploitation by presenting prostitution opportunities as legitimate employment abroad. Using the Western Balkan corridor, the smuggling cell coordinated with local facilitators and drivers to illegally transport victims into the EU. Safe houses were maintained along the route, with logistics managed through instant messaging apps.

Exploitation cell: Once in Europe, victims were initially exploited in entry-point countries. Later, they were transferred to Spain and other Member States, where they were forced to work in brothels or short-stay facilities. Victims were rotated between cities and across borders to evade detection and meet the growing demand for sexual services. The organisation maintained strict control over every aspect of the victims’ lives, taking 50% of their earnings even after their debts were repaid.

On 19 November 2024, law enforcement across Europe cracked down on a criminal network led by two Ukrainian brothers. The action day, which follows raids conducted in October 2024, saw the arrest of several suspects and the seizure of various criminal assets. In total, the operation, which took place over several months, led to the arrest of 23 suspects, the seizure of EUR 35.7 million in cash, bank accounts and cryptocurrencies as well as 36 vehicles, real estate, watches, and jewellery.

The organised criminal network, composed of mostly Ukrainian but also Armenian, Azerbaijani, or Kazakh nationals, has been providing cash courier and underground banking services to other criminal networks. Chinese actors were also part of this criminal network, providing money laundering services. This catalogue of crime-as-a-service offerings was used by various Russian-speaking and Asian criminal actors engaged in drug trafficking, tax evasion, or the smuggling of illicit goods. These crimes were mostly committed in Spain.

Results of the action days include:

Visa, Mastercard ‘Directly Handling the Proceeds’ of Child Sexual Abuse Material: Official Docs

A whistleblower asserted that Visa and Mastercard failed to prevent the laundering of funds related to child sexual abuse material and sex trafficking on the pornography website OnlyFans.

Reuters reported on Friday that the whistleblower, who works as a “senior compliance expert in the credit card and banking industries,” submitted a complaint in January 2023 with the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, also known as FinCEN.

That report was previously undisclosed.

The whistleblower asserted that the two credit card behemoths were aware that users were paying for illegal content on OnlyFans since 2021 or earlier.

He accused them of “turning a blind eye to flows of illicit revenue.”

The complaint was also filed with the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice.

The document said that several parties, including anti-trafficking experts, federal agents, and the whistleblower himself, told both Visa and Mastercard that their cards were being used to pay for illegal content on OnlyFans in several phone calls between 2021 and 2022.

One anti-trafficking group found a “high volume” of accounts on OnlyFans that had “common indicators” of child pornography or sex trafficking, according to the document.

The complaint asserted that because OnlyFans users directly pay pornography creators through the platform, Visa and Mastercards are “directly handling the proceeds of these illicit transactions.”

That would put them in violation of the Bank Secrecy Act since they “willfully failed” to introduce ways to stop money laundering through their networks.

Reuters could not “determine what action, if any, the agencies took in response to the complaint, which was filed under FinCEN’s anti-money laundering whistleblower program launched in 2021,” according to the outlet.

The whistleblower told Reuters in an interview that Visa and Mastercard had “the power to turn off the switch” but never discussed the complaint with him.

But both companies told Reuters that they had not heard of the complaint until Reuters reached out to them for comment.

A representative for Visa said that all merchants that are not in alignment with the firm’s “robust compliance requirements” are removed from the network.

The company employs the “best-in-class controls to deter, detect and remediate illegal activity,” the representative said.

A representative for Mastercard likewise said that the company has “strong governance standards through a comprehensive compliance program and strong internal controls.”

The representative explained, “If illegal activity is identified, we work with partners to act,” adding that the three agencies which received the complaint had not “referred any specific illegal activity for us to investigate or act on.”
