My personal theory is: I think most elements of "The Team" have been in contact in some form or another for at least 3 years, based on the idea that Q has stated they had been planning this for 3 years as of November 2017. It is a small group of less than 10 and more than 5 people.
It has never been a single person. And before anyone says "muh Trump"… Trump was asked to run, so it did 'not originate with him, though he is also a 'Q clearance patriot', now.
It's easy enough to figure out who the candidates would be; It can be assumed that the clowns have already done this, even before the exodus from /pol/
