Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the man who landed a plane on the Hudson River without losing a single life, says the mid-air collision near Reagan National is a grim reminder that aviation safety can never be taken for granted.
Sully:
“We’ve had to learn important lessons literally with blood too often, and we had finally gotten beyond that, to where we could learn from incidents, and not accidents.”
He didn’t hold back on Reagan National’s flaws, calling out its heavy air traffic, short runways, and outdated tech.
Add night flying over water, and pilots are basically guessing where the other aircraft are based on a few blinking lights.
The NTSB is investigating, and Sully hopes cockpit recordings, flight data, and radar will reveal what went wrong.
Sully:
“I’m just devastated by this.
We have the obligation to learn from every failure and improve.”
Let’s hope someone’s actually listening.
