Son-in-law charged with capital murder after double shooting in Etowah County
A 38-year-old man has been charged with two counts of capital murder after a deadly double shooting in Etowah County on Tuesday.
The shooting happened Jan. 28 on Coats Bend Circle around 12:30 p.m. The victims have been identified as 68-year-old Darla McKenzie and 72-year-old Michael McKenzie of Roswell, Georgia.
Michael McKenzie died at the scene. Darla McKenzie was airlifted to a hospital where she died.
The suspect, Christopher Johnson, was located and detained. Johnson is charged with capital murder and is being held in the Etowah County Jail without bond.
The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office confirms Johnson is the son-in-law of Darla McKenzie and Michael McKenzie. The couple are from Roswell, Georgia and was in Alabama visiting their daughter and Johnson.
The sheriff’s office says they are still working on a motive but do know an argument took place.
Christopher Johnson is in the Etowah County Jail without bond.
