Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez says humanitarian aid is contaminated
(CNN) – Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez says U.S. humanitarian aid awaiting entry into her country "is contaminated and poisoned, it is carcinogenic."
Rodríguez, vice president of Nicolás Maduro's government, made the accusation in a speech broadcast live on Venezuelan state television, VTV.
Rodriguez said humanitarian aid could be considered “biological weapons” containing chemicals to poison the Venezuelan population.
During his speech on state television, he showed documents and said: “This is what different scientific studies have shown about supposed edible products discarded by the United States.”
His speech on Tuesday came at the same time that Venezuela's declared interim president, Juan Guaidó, announced that humanitarian aid would be delivered on February 23 and that all Venezuelan assemblies would organize to receive it.
Maduro’s government issued a press release about the vice president’s event, saying the meeting was called “to refine strategic details about the country’s new food distribution system.” The press release did not mention anything about Rodriguez’s allegations that humanitarian aid is tainted.
Deputy Gaby Arellano, from the Voluntad Popular party, responded to the accusation by the Government of Nicolás Maduro that the humanitarian aid accumulated in Cúcuta, Colombia, “is contaminated and poisoned, it is carcinogenic.”
“The dictatorship surprises us every day, but they are already falling into delirium,” said Arellano in Conclusions.
“To say that the food we bring has been inoculated with cancer or cancer cells is bordering on madness, and has no logical explanation,” he said.
