Elon Musk and DOGE have now started their efforts to crack down on arguably the most hated agency in the entire country, causing liberals to lose it all over again.

Reuters reported that Gavin Kliger, a key staffer working with Elon Musk in his efforts to downsize the federal government, entered IRS headquarters on Thursday to investigate the corrupt agency’s operations.

Sources told Reuters that Kliger had been meeting with multiple senior executives at the agency to learn more.

One can only imagine what nasty stuff Kliger and the rest of DOGE will discover. It’s a safe bet that documented political persecution against conservatives will be one of the items.

This development follows President Trump’s announcement during a news conference that he would be looking into the IRS.

In Brazil, it is common for shoppers to use a card that works both as a debit card and a credit card, with most credit cards also accepting the option to pay in installments.

Data by a Statista Consumer Insights survey shows that a high 72 percent of online respondents aged between 18 and 64 years old said that they owned a credit card in 2024.

As Statista's Anna Fleck shows in the chart below, credit card ownership is also high in Canada, at 68 percent.

Surveys on the topic have found that one of the top reasons Canadians carry credit cards is for their rewards programs. Canada is considered to have one of the highest credit card penetration densities of the world, with many Canadians owning either one or two of the payment cards.

It is one of the few countries with more credit cards than debit cards.

In the U.S., 49 percent of respondents said they owned a credit card last year, versus 42 percent in China and just 38 percent in the Netherlands.

On December 6, 2024, a federal judge ordered the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to release documents related to the emergency use authorisation of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine. These documents had been hidden from public view.

The legal battle traces back to September 2021, when attorney Aaron Siri filed a lawsuit under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) on behalf of the Public Health and Medical Professionals for Transparency. The plaintiffs sought access to the vast trove of documents the FDA relied on to approve Pfizer’s vaccine.

Initially, the FDA proposed a slow release schedule. In November 2021, the agency stated it would release just 500 pages per month—a pace that would have stretched the full disclosure process to 75 years.

However, in January 2022, District Judge Mark Pittman of Texas rejected the FDA’s proposal, ordering the agency to expedite its release to 55,000 pages per month, aiming to complete the disclosure of all 450,000 pages by August 2022.

As the documents trickled out, researchers began uncovering glaring gaps that prevented a systematic review of the data. These gaps fueled suspicions about what else the FDA might be withholding.

It became evident that the FDA had withheld records directly tied to its emergency use authorisation of Pfizer’s vaccine, estimated to be over one million pages.

These documents, which the FDA had full knowledge of, were excluded from earlier disclosures, effectively misleading the judiciary and undermining public trust.

According to a January 28 report by CTV News, Abortion Care Canada has lost 77% of its operating budget after the federal government failed to renew its $1.3 million pledge from the Sexual and Reproductive Health Fund.

“The reality is that unless something big changes, we will likely close. The organization will shut down. We have four to six months of funding that I can kind of piece together,” said TK Pritchard, executive director of Abortion Care Canada.

According to Pritchard, the organization uses the taxpayer funds to help women procure abortions, doing so for a heartbreaking 450 people last year.

Since the Liberal government set up the Sexual and Reproductive Health Fund in 2021, Abortion Care Canada has received a whopping 2.2 million taxpayer dollars. According to Health Canada, it has received numerous requests for funding by various groups under the Sexual and Reproductive Health Fund and is unable to fund all of them.

“All proposals were evaluated against merit-based criteria, including criteria related to the specificity and feasibility of proposed project activities and outputs as well as level of stakeholder collaboration,” Health Canada explained to CTV News.

CTV News also noted that another pro-abortion group, Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, an umbrella group under which several other groups operate, reported that their funding was cut by almost 40 percent.

While abortion activists lament that they may not be able to kill as many babies this year, Campaign Life Coalition (CLC) is celebrating as it estimates that 100,000 induced abortions are committed annually in Canada. Continue…

Nigeria’s national security adviser has denounced the visa refusal as “disrespectful”

Nigeria’s defense chief, General Christopher Musa, has said the Canadian Embassy in the West African country has denied him and other senior military officers visas to attend a sports event for war veterans in Vancouver.

The week-long Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, organized by the foundation headed by the UK’s Prince Harry, commenced on February 8 and is scheduled to end on Saturday.

Gen. Musa made the announcement on Thursday during a lecture at the National Association of the Institute for Security Studies in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

“Remember last year the Duke of Sussex and his wife visited Nigeria. Through the Invictus… they try to raise the morale of troops all over the world that have suffered one form of deformity or the other in the course of defending their individual countries,” he said.

“We were supposed to be there. Actually, half of my team has already gone, but unfortunately, the Canadian embassy, for reasons best known to them, denied us visas,” the army chief added.

Gen. Musa said that while the denial of entry into Canada is “very disappointing,” it serves as a reminder for Nigerians to “stand strong as a nation and refuse to be taken for granted.”

Abuja’s national security adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, slammed the Canadian government for the visa snub, declaring that “they can go to hell.”

“Even though it’s painful and disrespectful, we are peaceful, we are strong, and I agree with you – it is time to fix our country. This is yet another reason we must work hard to make Nigeria work,” Ribadu said, addressing the same security gathering in Abuja on Thursday.

The Canadian Embassy has yet to comment on the claims.

The incident comes at a time when Canada is tightening its immigration rules and the Nigerian government itself is implementing measures to reduce spending on overseas trips for officials.

Last year, Bola Tinubu, president of Africa’s most populous country, temporarily suspended all publicly funded international travels for members of his government and said only trips that are “deemed absolutely necessary” will be approved.

Customs and Border Protection officers in Seattle have seized a shipment of fentanyl that originated in Canada.

According to CBP, the fentanyl was found during a "targeted enforcement operation" at a local shipping facility. When officers opened the package in question, they discovered "a brown rock-like substance in plastic bags."

Tests were performed, and it was confirmed that the substance was fentanyl.

"Fentanyl is an extremely dangerous synthetic drug that plagues our communities," Seattle Area Port Director Rene Ortega lamented. "CBP uses a variety of techniques to keep our nation safe. Targeted operations in shipping facilities help keep dangerous narcotics and synthetic drugs off our streets and out of our communities."

The apprehension comes amid growing tension between Canada and the United States, with fentanyl among the issues fuelling the discontent. Following negotiations between American president Donald Trump and Canadian prime minister, Canada announced the appointment of Kevin Brosseau as "fentanyl czar."

The prime minister's office made it clear that "the scourge of fentanyl must be wiped from the face of the Earth, its production must be shut down, and its profiteers must be punished."

"This is a national security and a public safety crisis," Brosseau added. "We should be focused on eliminating the scourge that is fentanyl in this country and in the United States. If it's one pound, 10 pounds, we all know the amount of deaths that that possibly could represent."

Around 19.5 kg entered Canada from the US between October 2023 and September 2024.

That’s the word from former Alberta cabinet minister and federal opposition leader Stockwell Day in regards to a proposed heavy oil refinery near Kitimat that had its environmental assessment pulled by Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault this week.

In a text to The Western Standard, Day said the $11-billion Pacific Future Energy project was “years ahead of its time” when it was first proposed in 2016.

Day was a director of the Vancouver-based company that was proposing to refine 150,000 barrels per day of Alberta heavy crude that was to come off the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline and send another 200,000 bpd of natural gas thinning agents back to Edmonton.

Products like gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel would have then been exported to markets in Asia.

But Guilbeault on Tuesday quietly terminated the environmental assessment for the project — arguably one of the most difficult steps — that was grandfathered under old environmental rules.

If it were to move ahead, the company would have to reapply under the newer Impact Assessment Act (IAA), that replaced the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act in 2019 with a more stringent regulatory framework that places greater emphasis on climate considerations.

Because Pacific Future Energy initially submitted its project description in 2016, it fell under the previous rules. However, Guilbeault made it clear that any attempt to revive the project would require a new application under the updated environmental regulations. Continue…
