And… in a carbon copy of Trump's tariff-delaying deal with Mexico, moments ago Canada's outgoing PM, Justin Trudeau, said that he too had bent the knee, having a "good call" with Trump, and that US tariffs on Canada would be paused for 30 days after Canada - just like Mexico - agreed to send 10,000 troops to the border as part of a $1.3 billion border plan which "reinforces the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl."

Trudeau also said that Canada will appoint a Fentanyl Czar, list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, and launch a Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering.

Finally, the Canadian PM also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million.

Shortly after Trudeau's post, Trump followed suit on his own Truth Social network, writing that Canada "has agreed to ensure we have a secure Northern Border, and to finally end the deadly scourge of drugs like Fentanyl that have been pouring into our Country, killing hundreds of thousands of Americans, while destroying their families and communities all across our Country."

Trump concluded by saying that he is "very pleased with this initial outcome" adding that the Tariffs announced on Saturday will be paused for a 30 day period "to see whether or not a final Economic deal with Canada can be structured. FAIRNESS FOR ALL!"

Trump pauses Mexico tariffs for one month after agreement on border troops

President Donald Trump on Monday said he is pausing for one month his new 25% tariffs on goods imported from Mexico after that country's president agreed to immediately send 10,000 soldiers to the U.S. border to prevent drug trafficking from Mexico.

Trump in a social media post said that during the pause "we will have negotiations" on the tariffs "headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and high-level Representatives of Mexico."

He also said "I look forward to participating in those negotiations" with Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum "as we attempt to achieve a 'deal' between our two Countries."

China retaliates with additional tariffs of up to 15% on select U.S. imports starting Feb. 10

hina unveiled a series of retaliatory measures against the U.S. on Tuesday, shortly after U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods took effect, raising concerns of a broader trade war between the world's two largest economies.

China's finance ministry said Tuesday it will impose additional tariffs of 15% on coal and liquified natural gas imports from the U.S. and 10% higher duties on American crude oil, agricultural machinery and certain cars, starting Feb. 10.

China reiterated that the imposition of additional levies of 10% by the U.S. "seriously violates the rules of the World Trade Organization … destructs the normal bilateral economic and trade activities" according to a CNBC translation of the statement in Chinese.

In a separate statement Tuesday, Chinese commerce ministry and customs officials announced to impose export controls on a range of items and technologies related to certain critical minerals, including tungsten, tellurium, ruthenium, molybdenum and ruthenium.

More US CEOs exited their companies in 2024 than in any year in more than two decades, with economic and technological factors contributing to the trend, according to a recent report from global outplacement company Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.

Last year, 2,221 CEOs quit their jobs, according to the company’s Jan. 30 report. The number is 16 percent higher than the previous record, which was set in 2023 with 1,914 CEO exits. The company began tracking CEO changes in 2002.

The government/nonprofit sector led 2024 in terms of CEO departures, with 493 executives leaving their posts. Health care and technology sectors saw more than 200 CEO exits each, followed by the entertainment/leisure, financial, and services industries sectors, each with more than 100 executives exiting.

“The environment of economic, political, and regulatory uncertainty that prevailed in 2024 certainly led to many CEO exits,” Senior Vice President Andrew Challenger said.

Acting US Attorney for DC, Ed Martin announced his office would be charging and arresting individuals who threatened Elon Musk’s DOGE team.

Ed Martin did not name any names as he announced that arrests and charges were coming. It is unclear which laws were violated.
