Once you install an Anode Rod, you won't need to drain/flush. Once the Anode rod wears out and needs replaced, you could drain & flush then.

As Anon understands, "some" WH mfrs include a small non-powered Anode rod in their heaters, but these may only last 8 months to a year beforethey are used up.
