It's true that Russia has a lot more free thinkers and scholars who are not prevented from investigating history by the establishment. Most of you have no idea what a free capitalist society looks like. But Russians do, because after the Soviet Union collapsed, that is what they got. And they adapted to it quite quickly because their education system had been designed to EDUCATE people and not to DUMB THEM DOWN like in the USA.
Of course, they had some bad things as well, like the Russian mafia resurgence, but since they were now free, they managed to figure out how to deal with it and fix those problems.
If you have read the Dodd Report to the Reece Commitee on private foundations, you will know that early in the 20th century the American Historical Association was created to whitewash history, take control of all history education in the USA and replace all history books with Illuminati sanctioned ones. And by the mid century they had pretty much succeeded. This is one of the reasons why almost everything that YOU KNOW is actually FALSE.

In Russia there are 35 languages spoken that are official languages in some region or other, and another 100 minority languages. Russian linguists are among the best in the world.

For instance, I believe that POTUS should be able to have secrets. People who work with POTUS in the WH should be able to keep their conversations and work projects secret. The cabinet (who were chosen by POTUS) and his senior military commanders, should be able to keep secret what they work on with POTUS.
But what about the daily intelligence reports, produced by and editor, who picked and chose from submissions given by many senior analysts, who summarized analyses prepared for them by many junior analysts, who spent the previous day reading foreign media in their target country and reading reports from embassy staff, which included reports from agents (citizens of the foreign country) who reported on what is going one inside one or another foreign organization.

I would say that the real question is one of trust. Not secrecy. This info should be CLASSIFIED according to trustability and people should only have access to information that is at a level of trustworthiness they can deal with. And the entire system should not be BLENDING highly trusted info with complete crap. If information is not very trustworthy, then some low level analyst should be tasked with finding alternate independent sources to confirm or refute that info, We need to be able to rate EVRY info source based on trustability, but ultimately, no info should be trusted simply because of its source.
