Caritas of Austin (@caritasofaustin) claims its mission is to "prevent and end homelessness" in Austin.

 

In the last 5 years, homelessness in Austin has more than doubled—while Caritas, in partnership with the city, positions Austin as a leading destination for the nation’s homeless, rivaling SF and LA.

 

Caritas also spends significant time and taxpayer money resettling migrants (“refugees”) in Austin. Clearly that does not decrease the number of people coming to Austin to live on the street.

 

Austin City Council has given Caritas tens of millions of dollars in recent years as its executive compensation increased 4x.

 

Caritas failed in its stated mission. So why is City Council writing them another check? We should be requesting a refund.
