You cannot create an index without a unique value in a recordset

does not have to be a pk

if you want to fag build pk maps

if you want to do something useful like search you have your indexes right

SSN not being unique is suspicious af

can only suspect old SSNs reused stay in dataset? Strange one or intentional.

See there is a good reason

In the past they could not do bulk uploads or stuff because of unique contstraints

It got turned into an illegal hell hole pay in sys when they saw the opportunity

No chance it was designed this way

To the uniqueness point

SSN should never be the primary key for a system, there should always be a unique database identifier for the record.

Typically an incremented key

You dont want to force further constraints on the SSN, who knows what it may morph to in the future and they you have an endless data migration issue

Same patient comes twiceโ€ฆ they get a unique identifier

Database for a hospital is designed for encounters, not patients

A PK and a unique identifier are NOT THE SAME FUCKING THING

A PK is unique, this is true

A unique identifier is also unique

For SSN, the design is intentional.

I suspect they are siphoning off all the illegals money into a slush fund then

There is going to be something in that database that identifies the person as an illegalโ€ฆ it will likely be a combination of settings that does it

KEK

Illegals taxes are paying for new illegals

Sick but elegant

Forgotโ€ฆ

Primary keys slow databases down, especially write time. They are not meant to be all over your database.

Unique identifiers are less overhead and give the same indexing ability.

Databases are write and search. Anything that slows that down is to be avoided.
