PREDICT was a USAID $210 million initiative to fund virus research that began in 2009 and ended in 2019. The website for the initiative is still up.
Peter Daszak (Eco Health) and two leaders from PREDICT (one worked directly for USAID) started the GVP (Global Virome Project). The goal was to direct funding to GVP in 2019 after the funding ended for PREDICT.
In September of 2019, as funding was ending for PREDICT, notes on the status of the work in the Wuhan lab were sent to USAID. At least 11,051 virus samples were left in freezers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology by USAID backed scientists in late 2019. That's the last inventory done before the pandemic.
