'State Of Panic' Among Locals As Israel Expands Occupation Of South Syria

The Israeli army continues to bombard Syria and attack what is left of the former government’s military infrastructure

The Israeli army expanded its occupation of southern Syria on 9 February, continuing its campaign of destroying infrastructure belonging to the former Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

The troops pushed into the village of Ain al-Nouriya in the northeastern countryside of the southern city of Quneitra.

"The forces destroyed the remains of two mortar companies and anti-tank missiles belonging to the former Syrian army, near the strategic Ain al-Nouriya hill," Syrian sources told Al Mayadeen.

“Occupation forces were stationed for hours on a vital road linking the Quneitra countryside to the Damascus countryside in the direction of Khan Arnabeh - Harfa, which caused a state of panic among the residents, especially with the expansion of the incursions and the increase in Israeli patrols in the Quneitra countryside and Mount Hermon,” the sources said.

An Israeli airstrike targeted a military site on the outskirts of the city of Inkhil in the northern countryside of the southern Deraa governorate on Saturday night.

Israel's recent expansion across southern Syria, which began immediately after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government, has seen invading troops seize precious water sources such as the Al-Wahda Dam on the Yarmouk River Basin and others, as well as establish observation posts in several strategic areas overlooking Damascus and its countryside.

Washington Post reported earlier this month, citing locals in the area, that the Israeli army is setting up permanent military settlements in a number of villages in southern Syria, including Jabata al-Khashab in Quneitra.

Tel Aviv is planning to maintain an indefinite presence in Syria.

Third federal judge blocks Trump's birthright citizenship executive order

A federal judge in New Hampshire on Monday blocked President Trump's executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship, becoming the third judge to do so amid more than half a dozen legal challenges to the president's directive.

U.S. District Judge Joseph Laplante said at the end of a brief hearing that he would grant the request for a preliminary injunction sought by New Hampshire Indonesian Community Support, LULAC and Make the Road New York. The three groups filed the first federal lawsuit challenging Mr. Trump's executive order, which he signed on his first day in office.

"The plaintiff has made the required showing to get a preliminary injunction," Laplante, appointed by President George W. Bush, said.

He is expected to issue a written decision explaining his reasoning by Tuesday.

Laplante's order comes on the heels of two others issued by federal judges in Washington and Maryland last week that barred enforcement of Mr. Trump's birthright citizenship order nationwide. The Justice Department has appealed one of those decisions, from U.S. District Judge John Coughenour, to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

At least eight lawsuits have been filed in courts nationwide challenging Mr. Trump's effort to end birthright citizenship, which came as part of a long-promised crackdown on immigration. His executive order denies U.S. citizenship to children born to mothers who are in the country unlawfully or temporarily on visas, and whose fathers are neither citizens nor lawful residents.

In the hearing before Laplante, Cody Wofsy, a lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union who argued on behalf of the immigrant-rights groups, said Mr. Trump's order is a "fundamental attack" on the Constitution and is "straightforwardly illegal" under Supreme Court precedent.

But Drew Ensign, a Justice Department lawyer, said Mr. Trump was well within his authority to eliminate birthright citizenship. The president's order states that no federal agency shall issue or accept government documents recognizing children covered by the directive who are born on or after Feb. 19.

Wofsy said in a statement following the hearing that Laplante's order represents the "latest rebuke" of Mr. Trump's effort to end birthright citizenship.

"This attempt to deny babies their citizenship is as illegal as it is inhumane, and we will keep fighting until we stop this order for good," he said.

No Farmers, No Food: Farmers Rally Outside UK Parliament over Labour’s Death Tax Grab

Thousands of British farmers descended upon Westminster on Monday morning to protest the leftist Labour Party government’s plans to impose inheritance taxes on family farms, which critics warn will force farmers to sell their land after their parents die to pay the tax collector.

Rows of tractors clogged Whitehall outside Downing Street, stretching from Parliament to Trafalgar Square on Monday as Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer’s government has vowed to plough ahead with plans to slap a 20 per cent death tax on farms valued at least £1 million (£2m for married couples) by next year.

The leftist government has justified removing the inheritance tax exemption for farmers because some wealthy individuals have bought farmland to safeguard their assets from the state, and this wealth is needed to pay for social services like the state healthcare system.

However, others have noted that while some farms may have high land values, many farmers operate on a thin profit margin and, therefore, would be unable to pay the tax bill without selling land.

The protest on Monday comes as the government said that it will stand “steadfast” with its death tax agenda as a petition calling for reversal gained 150,000 signatures.

Some of the placards seen at the demonstration read: “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you”, “Make Agriculture Great Again”, and the phrase seen at protests throughout Europe: “No farmers, No food”.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, fourth-generation farmer Matt Cowling, 40, of Padstow in Cornwall, said: “I could be the generation that loses it, it’s heartbreaking and soul destroying.”

“This Labour policy will kill British farming and kill our food security. We can’t be dependent on other countries. They’re completely out of touch. Farmers, the working class, the National Insurance hikes – it’s killing everyone.”

The farmers were joined by Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, who vowed that if his party wins the next election, they will reverse the Labour tax grab on farmers.

Farage railed against the concept of death taxes in general, describing the scheme as “monstrous” and “immoral on every level”, arguing that it is a tax on money that has already been taxed.

The Reform UK leader suggested that there was a more “sinister” motivation by Labour’s tax grab, suggesting that the government actually wants farms to shut down to grab the land for so-called green energy projects or to build housing for the millions of migrants who will come to the country in the coming years.

Report: Netanyahu Intends To Sabotage Gaza Ceasefire Deal

According to Haaretz, the Israeli delegation heading to Qatar for negotiations will not advance to the second phase of the agreement

Israeli sources have told Haaretz that they believe Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to sabotage the Gaza hostage and ceasefire deal and that Israeli negotiators headed to Qatar will not advance the agreement to its second phase.

“It’s a show,” one source told Haaretz. “Netanyahu is signaling quite clearly that he doesn’t want to move to the next phase. He’s sending a team without a mandate and without the ability to do anything.”

The report comes as Netanyahu is returning to Israel after his week-long trip to the US, where he received a strong show of support from President Trump and congressional lawmakers. During the visit, Trump advanced new arms deals for Israel, sanctioned the International Criminal Court (ICC) on behalf of Netanyahu, and floated his plan for a US “takeover” of the Gaza Strip, which has emboldened Netanyahu and his allies to advance their goal of ethnic cleansing.

Another source speaking to Haaretz said Netanyahu’s conduct could jeopardize the current phase of the ceasefire. “The process is working, hostages are being released, but Hamas is doing this with the expectation of a second stage, leading to a [full] ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. Once Hamas realizes there won’t be a second stage, they may not complete the first,” the source said.

Israeli forces have continued to kill Palestinians inside Gaza throughout the ceasefire, but so far, Hamas hasn’t responded. It’s possible Israel could ramp up the violence in Gaza in an effort to provoke Hamas as a way to restart its genocidal war with US support.

One of Haaretz’s sources said the images of Hamas fighters in Gaza during hostage releases have hurt Netanyahu’s support among the Israeli right-wing, which includes Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who has threatened to quit the government if military operations don’t resume after the first phase.

“Right-wing voters see that we haven’t defeated Hamas, and its operatives are still roaming with weapons. The signs on stages in Gaza during the hostage return events mock Netanyahu and reference his ‘total victory’ slogan,” the source said. “Netanyahu knows he doesn’t have a government if he proceeds with the deal.”

Evangelical Christian Zionist leader Laurie Cardoza-Moore condemned conservative commentator Tucker Carlson after images surfaced over the weekend showing him posing with President Donald Trump and Elon Musk at the White House.

“Tucker Carlson’s antisemitism does not reflect the values of the Trump administration,” said Cardoza-Moore on Monday, adding that Carlson “is the slightly savvier mentor of Candace Owens, peddling a new woke-right, fake-Christian form of Jew-hatred.”

Cardoza-Moore, host of the syndicated television show Focus on Israel, which reaches billions of viewers globally, said she had been “inundated with calls from concerned Jews and Christians” following the images of Carlson wearing an oversized MAGA hat alongside Trump and Musk.

“We, the people, elected President Trump with an overwhelming majority and with a mandate to stand with Israel and our Jewish brethren against the rise of antisemitism, anti-Israelism, and anti-Zionism,” she said.

“Under the Biden administration, his policies incited violence against our Jewish communities on higher-ed and K-12 campuses, in synagogues, and places of worship. Our 47th president is without any doubt Israel’s greatest friend in the White House ever, but Tucker Carlson’s antisemitism is appalling.”

Cardoza-Moore further accused Carlson of using his platform to amplify antisemitic voices. “Following the worst attack on Jews since the Holocaust, Tucker has chosen to platform Holocaust revisionists, Jew-haters, and fake Christian leaders on the Palestinian Authority payroll,” she said. “He peddles conspiracy theories against God’s Chosen and libels the Israel Defense Forces by falsely claiming they deliberately target civilians.”

Concluding her remarks, Cardoza-Moore directly appealed against Carlson’s presence in Trump’s political circles. “Tucker Carlson should not be allowed anywhere near the White House,” she declared.

Mass Graves and Skeletons Found in Netzarim after Israeli Withdrawal

The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Sunday that the death toll from Israel’s ongoing assault has risen to 48,189, with 111,640 wounded since October 7, 2023.

The grim statistics come as bodies and skeletons of Palestinians were found in areas previously occupied by Israeli forces in the Netzarim axis in central Gaza.

In its daily report, the ministry stated that eight more Palestinians were killed within the past 24 hours, including seven whose remains were retrieved from under the rubble and one who succumbed to injuries sustained during the Israeli offensive.

The ministry warned that many victims remain trapped beneath collapsed buildings and in open areas, but ambulance and rescue teams are unable to reach them due to Israeli restrictions.

The war, carried out with full U.S. support, has also resulted in over 14,000 missing persons, in addition to widespread destruction across the enclave.

Palestinian sources confirmed the discovery of bodies and skeletal remains in the Netzarim corridor, which Israeli forces vacated as part of the ceasefire agreement. Footage released by Shehab News Agency revealed the widespread destruction in Netzarim, Al-Maghraqa, and Juhar al-Dik.

The Israeli army had earlier completed its withdrawal from the Netzarim corridor, which had divided the Gaza Strip for months. The Palestinian Ministry of Interior in Gaza stated that movement through Salah al-Din and Rashid Streets remains restricted, with vehicles subject to searches before being allowed to pass through Salah al-Din Street. Rashid Street remains open only to pedestrians.

Despite the ceasefire agreement, Israeli forces continue to target Palestinians through airstrikes and sniper fire. On Sunday, the Israeli army claimed to have opened fire on “a number of suspects” in northern Gaza.

Another Wave Of Israeli Strikes Hits Syria, Lebanon

Another wave of Israeli strikes hit Syria and Lebanon on February 9, targeting sites linked to Hezbollah and the now dissolved Syrian Arab Army.

In southern Syrian governorate of al-Suwayda, multiple strikes targeted the Khalkhalah Air Base, according to the local Al-Suwayda 24 news blog, which didn’t report any casualties. Fighter jets, drones and air defense systems are known to be deployed at the air base, which is located in the northern countryside of the governorate.

The air base was targeted more than once by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) after the fall of the Assad regime last December. There was no comment from the Israeli side on the latest strikes.

Meanwhile in the southern Lebanese governorate of Nabatiyeh, Israeli strikes hit Houmine, Aazze and Kafroue, according to Lebanese media. An additional strike targeted the Quld al-Sab’a crossing in the eastern Beqaa Valley. No casualties were reported in any of the targeted areas.

The IDF claimed responsibility for the strikes, saying in a statement that it had hit several targets, including a tunnel between Lebanon and Syria used by Hezbollah to smuggle weapons.

The military said that the tunnel, in the Beqaa Valley, was struck in the past. “The IDF is determined to prevent restoration and use of this tunnel,” it noted in a statement.

Additionally, the military said that it targeted several Hezbollah sites which included weapons and rocket launchers that “posed an immediate threat,” to Israel.

According to the IDF, the targeted sites were “a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.”

The strike on the crossing in the Beqaa Valley came amid clashes between local Shiite clans linked to Hezbollah and Syrian government forces in nearby areas.

Hezbollah took heavy losses in the confrontation with Israel which broke out more than a year ago as a result of the war in the Gaza Strip. The United States brokered a ceasefire last November. However, the IDF has been using a term within the agreement that gives it the right to act against any immediate threat to continue to launch strikes against Lebanon.

The latest strikes show how Israel has been taking advantage of the ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon and the recent fall of the Assad regime in Syria to further degrade the military capabilities of both countries.

The investigations by DOGE found that tax dollars have been funneled through USAID to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in China to develop the COVID-19 virus as a bioweapon.

According to Musk, USAID has also been funding the development of other deadly viruses to be used as bioweapons against the public.
