New York Democrats are working on a plan to deprive the Republicans of a much-needed House seat.

As Rep. Elise Stefanik takes up her role as Donald Trump’s Ambassador to the United Nations, the Republicans will lose another Congressional seat on what is already a razor-thin majority.

To try and squeeze that majority even further, New York Democrats have put forward legislation that would allow Governor Kathy Hochul to delay scheduling special elections until November.

Under current law, Hochul is required to schedule a special election within 90 days after the vacancy is declared.

The decision to allow this delay until November is all the more convenient for Democrats because it will coincide with New York’s state elections.

Representative Val Hoyle (D-OR) said on Monday on CNN’s “News Central” that Democratic lawmakers will not vote to fund the government if Republicans are advancing President Donald Trump’s agenda, which “undermines the American people.”

Host John Berman said, “What can you do about this? There are some raising the possibility of shutting down the government in March, when some of these funding bills come up for a vote. Do you think Democrats should stand in the way?”

Hoyle said, “I think Hakeem Jeffries, I do trust him to be, you know, our — he is our leader and we will use whatever power we have. They will need Democratic votes to pass this budget. And fundamentally we’re not going to vote for something that undermines the American people.”

She added, “Nobody voted for Elon Musk. He bought the election. But fundamentally he had put out on Twitter that, you know, people are going to have to suffer in order for us to make America great again meaning they have no intention of lowering prices, at least not in the short term. Nothing they have done has addressed prices for consumers or the economy. It’s all about retribution.”

On Monday US District Judge of the District Court for the District of Rhode Island, John McConnell, an Obama appointee, accused President Trump of violating his court order blocking his federal funding freeze.

Last month Judge McConnell temporarily blocked Trump’s freeze on federal funding in response to a request from 22 Democrat state attorneys general and DC.

Trump’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) previously put a temporary pause of agency grant, loan and other financial assistance programs.

“The American people elected Donald J. Trump to be President of the United States and gave him a mandate to increase the impact of every federal taxpayer dollar. In Fiscal Year 2024,of the nearly $10 trillion that the Federal Government spent, more than $3 trillion was Federal financial assistance, such as grants and loans,” the OMB said.

House Democrats launched a “Rapid Response Task Force” and a “Litigation Working Group” on Monday to combat President Donald Trump’s popular America First agenda.

Trump, who holds a positive approval rating, has enacted many policies that are popular among Americans, a Sunday CBS News poll found. Some of his policies that hold majority support include:

Deporting illegal aliens

Sending troops to the border

Handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict

Placing tariffs on Chinese goods

Seventy percent said Trump is following through on his campaign promises, the poll also found.

Democrats, nevertheless, are trying to block Trump and his plans to restore the nation.
