NTSB says it's possible helicopter crew didn't hear air traffic instructions ahead of DC collision
NTSB Chairwoman Homendy said the collision likely occurred at approximately 325 feet in the air, which is outside of the helicopter's 200-foot limit for the area.
National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy on Friday told reporters that it is possible the crew of a military helicopter did not hear critical commands from air traffic control ahead of its collision with a passenger plane.
The fatal plane crash, which killed all 67 people on the plane and helicopter, occurred last month near the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). The incident has prompted heavy criticism of U.S. Air Traffic Control, but a federal investigation into the collision is still ongoing.
Homendy said a recording from the Black Hawk helicopter cockpit indicated that there was an incomplete radio transmission, which may have left the helicopter's crew without understanding that it needed to move to avoid the plane.
“That transmission was interrupted -– it was stepped on,” she said, which could have left them unable to hear the words “pass behind the [plane]" because the helicopter’s microphone key was pressed at the same time, per the Associated Press.
The chairwoman also said the helicopter pilot was on an annual test flight, which includes a test of its night vision goggles, and therefore the whole crew could have been wearing night vision goggles throughout the entire flight.
Homendy additionally said the collision likely occurred at approximately 325 feet in the air, which is outside of the helicopter's 200-foot limit for the area. But there also appears to be conflicting information on how high the helicopter was, with the helicopter’s pilot reporting they were then at 300 feet, but the instructor pilot saying it was 400 feet.
The chairwoman added that the information, and the board's investigation, is still in its early phases.

Canadian hockey fans boo US national anthem during 4 Nations Face-Off
Canadian hockey fans have been booing the "Star Spangled Banner" at games since President Donald Trump threatened tariffs against Canada.
Canadian hockey fans on Thursday night booed the United States during its national anthem, ahead of the U.S.'s first game 4 Nations Face-Off against Finland.
The tournament began Wednesday and will last through next Thursday, and features teams from the United States, Canada, Finland, and Sweden. The tournament is taking place in Montreal.
Canadian hockey fans have been booing the "Star Spangled Banner" at games since President Donald Trump threatened tariffs against the neighboring country, according to the Associated Press. But no boos were heard during the Finland anthem.
U.S. team captain Auston Matthews was also booed on Wednesday during a pregame ceremony before Canada played Sweden, and was also booed when he was shown on video screens during warm-ups.
The boos occurred despite commissioner Gary Bettman urging attendees to be supportive of all teams, during a press conference on Wednesday.
"Our goal is to make sure that we create an environment and that hockey represents an opportunity to bring people together, and I think people understand that," Bettman said.

Russian UAV destroys ‘drone-proof’ Ukrainian military vehicle (VIDEO)
A new clip purportedly shows a tank and an SUV being hit despite their jamming antennae
New first-person-view (FPV) footage shows Russian fiber optic-guided drones hunting Ukrainian vehicles protected by electronic warfare antennae near the Kursk Region border.
Russian frontline journalist Evgeny Poddubny posted the clip on his Telegram channel on Sunday; it presumably shows the work of the Russian 40th Separate Guards Marine Brigade drone pilots, of the ‘North’ group of forces.
In the first part of the video, a suicide FPV drone can be seen chasing down a Ukrainian tank and striking the top rear section of its hull, despite several anti-drone measures.
Several electronic warfare antennas can be seen poking through the top of the anti-drone slat armor welded onto the top of the tank. The drone catches up to the speeding and zigzagging tank and hits it in the roof of the hull, where armor is typically thinner than most other areas.
In the second part of the clip, another FPV drone can be seen diving down at a parked SUV, hitting it on the roof. Several sets of electronic warfare antennae can be seen sticking up from the top of the vehicle.

Fiber optic-guided drones have seen more frequent use in recent months, after first being deployed by Russian forces last summer. Footage from these drones is characterized by their slightly slower speeds and excellent picture quality, unaffected by the pervasive jamming used by both sides of the conflict.
These types of drones are entirely immune to electronic warfare, as they maintain a direct link with the pilot via a fiber optic cable, unlike their jamming-vulnerable radio-controlled counterparts. The downside of the fiber optic-controlled UAVs is that they are bulkier, having to carry a bobbin with the cable, and therefore less agile.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, as of Sunday, Ukraine has witnessed more than 61,000 troop casualties in the Kursk Region since Kiev’s forces first began their push in August of last year. In addition, Ukraine has lost more than 365 tanks, 48 multiple launch rocket systems (including 13 HIMARS and six other US-made MLRS), six anti-aircraft units, as well as hundreds of other heavy vehicles, according to the ministry.

‘It doesn’t harm us’: Russian scientist busts myths about microplastics
Alarming media reports about the harm of microplastics to the human body and the environment are greatly exaggerated, Alexei Khokhlov has told RT
Microplastics are among the most widely discussed environmental topics today. The media often highlights the harmful effects of polymer nanoparticles on living organisms. However, as head of the Department of Polymer and Crystal Physics at Moscow State University, and a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Alexei Khokhlov told RT, there is no scientific basis for these claims. Khokhlov argues that microplastic particles are no more hazardous to humans than tiny wood or concrete particles which exist in the environment in much greater quantities.
RT: In recent years, many scientific studies and media reports have been published about microplastics. What exactly are they made of?
Khokhlov: Microplastics are defined as fragments of polymer materials smaller than 5 mm. These particles can break down into even smaller micron-sized pieces, and there are also polymer nanoparticles.
We live in an era dominated by new materials. Just 100 years ago, the polymer industry was virtually nonexistent. The widespread use of plastics began in the 1950s, and today, approximately 400 million tons of various plastics are produced annually worldwide.
The main types of polymers include polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polystyrene, and polyvinyl chloride. These materials are used to make plastic wrap, packaging, and so on. Essentially, we are surrounded by polymer materials; life today would be unimaginable without them.
RT: Is it true that microplastics are everywhere, even in our food and water?
Khokhlov: The molecular structure of polymers consists of long chains of monomer units. Interestingly, we are made up of polymers ourselves, since proteins, DNA and RNA chains are molecules of such type. As for their presence in the environment, particles from all natural and man-made materials find their way into the environment.
Nanoparticles of dust, sand, and natural polymers like cellulose can enter cells. Wood itself is essentially a composite material made from cellulose and lignin. Annually, around 2.5 billion tons of wood are produced globally, while plastics account for only 400 million tons. It’s a very small amount compared to natural polymers.
RT: How do microplastics affect living cells? Can particles penetrate cells and disrupt their function?
Khokhlov: Any material will break down into smaller particles as a result of environmental exposure. All nanoparticles can enter the human bloodstream, not just microplastics. For instance, walls gradually disintegrate into dust and sand, which also make their way into the human body. There is no evidence that microplastic particles are particularly harmful.

RFK Jr. Drops a Stunning Announcement on Fox News
Thursday night on The Ingraham Angle, acting HHS Secretary RFK Jr. announced plans to launch a vaccine injury reporting system that actually works in an effort to overhaul or completely replace the flawed Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).
Kennedy cited a study that was never officially completed due to CDC noncompliance, in which Harvard collected over three years of data on 715,000 patients and concluded that fewer than 1% of vaccine adverse effects were reported.
“That’s inexcusable,” Kennedy said, vowing to fix it “right away.”
LAURA INGRAHAM: “Do you think the COVID vaccine was safe? And the boosters were safe? A lot of people talk about adverse effects.”
RFK JR: “We don’t have good data on it, and that is a crime. The fact that we don’t have a surveillance system that actually works.
“In 2010, the CDC had a surveillance system called the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, and it’s supposed to pick up injuries. But the CDC did a study of that system in 2010, and that study said, and this is a published study by the CDC, that it captures less than 1% of vaccine injuries. That’s inexcusable.
“Congress and the Institute of Medicine, the National Academy of Sciences, have repeatedly ordered the CDC to put together a better vaccine reporting system. And we will do that right away.”
