Might want to expand your thinking. 2 Cor 4:4 written in 1st cent. AD. Paul was addressing the Christians in Corinth about a pagan "god"… lower case "g". An idol. In the 1st cent. AD under Roman empire / rule all provinces of Rome had to worship Caesar. The emperors proclaimed themselves to be gods. Not talking about an demonic entity, but a political leader / principality that was preventing ppl from hearing the gospel under threat against their lives. 1st audience perspective matters.

Origin of the capitalization of the Hebrew ha satan comes from Jerome's translation of the LXX into Latin Vulgate. Roman paganism influence. In the OT Hebrew, ha satan simply means "the adversary", and it is a job function or title. Such as the doctor, or the teacher, or the district atty.

Proper nouns do not take the definite article "the". We don't say "the Joe", or "the Mark", or the Allen". Jerome's belief system read into the text something the original did not mean.

Evil comes from within the heart of man. Ecc. 8:1, 9:3; Mark 7:21, etc. An adversary is anyone that opposes another, an the term was applied to the Angel of the Lord who stood against Balaam on his donkey in Num. 22.

So in any age / generation the adversary or adversaries that stand against or oppose God are those who deny Him, and worship pagan idols. In Rev. 1:11 Pergamos was called the seat of satan because they were the "temple keepers of Asia" - the idol keepers of Asia - whose most prominent idol temple was that devoted to Caesar.

Understood. Unfortunately it does seem to be an uphill battle. Those interested might want to read the article "Chasing Lucifer" at https://hethathasanear.com/Warfare-2.html.

The consequence of thinking that 2 Cor 4:4 was speaking about a demonic entity or "Satan" as the god of this world would mean that there are 2 gods? Did God abdicate His rule over all the earth? Not likely. It comes from paganism and results in a bi-polar belief system. There is no "Satan" but there a lot of adversaries.

Yes, because their beliefs, although false, are being used as basis for public policy and theft and coercion and blackmail and murder etc - all of which have consequences that affect the entire world. But it would be nice if we could let them know that they are worshiping absolutely NOTHING.
