Russia and US agree on Ukraine peace talks – Lavrov

Moscow and Washington have agreed to start the conflict settlement process, according to the Russian foreign minister

Lavrov led the Russian delegation, which also included Yury Ushakov, Putin’s top foreign policy aide. Kirill Dmitriev, the CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), also took part in the negotiation process. The American side was represented by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump’s national security adviser, Mike Waltz, and Steve Witkoff, Washington’s special envoy for the Middle East.

Neither Ukraine nor the EU participated in the meeting, with Kiev stating it would not recognize the outcome of the talks unless it was involved.

Speaking to reporters shortly after the meeting in Riyadh, Lavrov stated that as part of the agreement to initiate the Ukraine conflict settlement process, Russia will appoint its representative once it receives confirmation of Washington’s designated negotiator.

“I believe the discussions were highly productive,” Lavrov said, adding, “Not only did we listen, but we genuinely heard each other.”

He further stated that he had reason to believe the American side “now has a clearer understanding of Russia’s position,” as it had been “thoroughly detailed” using specific examples drawn from President Putin’s numerous statements.

Lavrov pointed out that the meeting in Riyadh was initiated by the Russian and US presidents, who had agreed that preparations for the next summit should be started. To achieve this, foreign ministers and national security advisers were tasked with meeting and determining what needed to be worked out before the two presidents “can negotiate specific dates and timelines for the summit.”

Moscow and Washington have agreed that “when national interests coincide, efforts must be united and implemented” in relevant areas through “mutually beneficial projects” in both geopolitical and economic spheres, according to Lavrov. However, when interests do not align, the sides should not provoke a conflict but rather work to resolve issues, he added.

DOGE Finds $4.7 Trillion In Virtually Untraceable Treasury Payments

The Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) on Monday revealed its finding that $4.7 trillion in disbursements by the US Treasury are "almost impossible" to trace, thanks to a rampant disregard for the basic accounting practice of using of tracking codes when dishing out money.

Mind you, it's not as if such a federal tracking system wasn't already in place – it simply went casually unused for all sorts of payouts adding up to an almost unfathomable $4.7 trillion. Without Treasury Access Symbol (TAS) identification codes associated with those payouts, there's little hope in figuring out where all that money went.

"In the Federal Government, the TAS field was optional for ~$4.7 Trillion in payments and was often left blank, making traceability almost impossible," DOGE announced via its X account. Thanks to DOGE, those "optional" days are over. “As of Saturday, this is now a required field, increasing insight into where money is actually going," DOGE added.

Musk celebrated the move. "Major improvement in Treasury payment integrity going live!" he tweeted. "This was a combined effort of DOGE, USTreasury and FederalReserve. Nice work by all."

DOGE's scrutiny of various government agencies is eliciting high-pitched shrieks from nearly every leftist in America, from establishment politicians who don't want the curtain that hides their hijinks and grifting torn down, to your liberal sister-in-law who thinks the government has an endless supply of money and that it spends it all virtuously.

Earlier this month, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent pushed back on portrayals of DOGE employees as reckless rogues. "These are highly trained professionals," he told Bloomberg. "This is not some roving band going around doing things. This is methodical and it is going to yield big savings."

Head of DOJ’s Criminal Division in Washington, DC Resigns, citing demand to probe Biden-era contract

A senior federal prosecutor in Washington resigned on Tuesday, citing what she called an improper demand by appointees of President Donald Trump's administration to launch a criminal probe of a government contract awarded under former President Joe Biden.

Denise Cheung, who supervised criminal cases at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington, said she had been ordered to open a probe into a contract that she did not identify and that she believed the request was not supported by evidence, in a letter reviewed by Reuters.

When she declined to launch a grand jury investigation citing a lack of evidence, she said she was ordered instead to pursue an asset seizure to prevent the recipient of the contract from drawing down the government funds.

"I have been proud to serve at the U.S. Department of Justice and this office for over 24 years," Cheung wrote in the letter to interim U.S. Attorney Ed Martin. "During my tenure, which has spanned over many different administrations, I have always been guided by the oath I took …to support and defend the Constitution."

Spokespeople for the U.S. Attorney's office and the Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Her resignation is the latest by career Justice Department prosecutors to protest what they see as improper political interference by the Trump administration in criminal investigations.

Dozens of career Justice Department officials who normally remain in office from one administration to the next in cities including Washington and New York have been fired or quit since Trump took office on January 20, vowing to rapidly shake up a department that he says was used against him during his years out of power.

Roughly 20 prosecutors who investigated Trump supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, have been reassigned.

Israel Plans 1,000 New Settlement Homes as West Bank Raids Intensify

Israeli authorities are planning to expand a Jewish-only settlement in the West Bank by nearly 1,000 homes, a Tel Aviv-based peace group said Sunday as Israeli soldiers and settlers escalated attacks on Palestinians in the illegally occupied territory.

Peace Now said Israel’s Civil Administration has issued a new tender for the construction of 974 new housing units in Efrat, a Jewish-only colony located about 7.5 miles south of Jerusalem between Bethlehem and Hebron. The planned expansion will increase Efrat’s population of approximately 11,800 residents by 40% and geographically isolate Palestinian communities in the southern West Bank.

Emboldened by U.S. President Donald Trump’s return to power, far-right members of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Cabinet have vowed to annex the West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967 in violation of international law.

On Sunday, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said that “the goal for 2025 is to demolish more than the Palestinians build in the West Bank,” according to Al Jazeera. This, following the largest Israeli seizure of Palestinian land in the West Bank in decades last year.

“The Netanyahu government is operating on steroids to establish facts on the ground that will destroy the chance for peace and compromise,” said Peace Now, referring to the longtime Israeli practice of violating international law by colonizing and annexing Palestinian land to establish what one legal scholar has described as “de facto possession with the aim of attaining de jure possession.”

Peace Now continued: “It is now clear that military action alone will not bring a solution to the conflict or security to Israel, and that ultimately we will have to reach an agreement with the Palestinians. The Netanyahu government is harming Israeli interests and torpedoing the only solution that can bring us security and peace.”

In the United States, the Council on American-Islamic Relations said in a statement Monday that “the ongoing de facto annexation of the illegally occupied West Bank through the expansion of racially segregated illegal settlements is just one aspect of the far-right Israeli government’s ethnic cleansing of the entirety of historic Palestine and of its relentless efforts to block justice for the Palestinian people.”

Israel Continues To Block Entry of Temporary Housing into Gaza in Violation of Ceasefire Deal

The Israeli military also continues to launch attacks in Gaza

Israel has continued to block the entry of temporary housing into the Gaza Strip despite agreeing to allow the deliveries as part of the hostage and ceasefire deal, Middle East Eye reported on Monday.

Under the deal, Israel agreed to allow 200,000 tents and 60,000 mobile homes in Gaza, but so far, only 20,000 tents have entered, and no mobile homes have been allowed in. Tens of thousands of mobile homes are stuck at the Rafah crossing in Egypt.

The Times of Israel reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not given approval for the entry of mobile homes and construction equipment needed to clear the rubble. The report acknowledged that the move was a “potential breach of the ceasefire.”

Israeli forces have also continued to bomb and shoot Palestinians in Gaza despite the ceasefire deal, killing around 100 since the truce went into effect on January 19. The Israeli military said on Monday that its fighter jets targeted a vehicle traveling from north Gaza to central Gaza, claiming it was “on a route not approved for vehicle traffic.”

A day earlier, an Israeli drone strike killed three police officers near the southern city of Rafah. Gaza’s Health Ministry said the officers were in the area to secure aid shipments.

Israel Confirms Troops Will Remain at Southern Lebanon Sites After Deadline

IDF expected to also triple number of troops on border

It is just one day from the extended deadline for Israel to withdraw its military from Lebanon. Israel is preparing to do something presented as withdrawal but which would more correctly be presented as continuing to occupy Lebanese soil.

Israeli officials suggest they’re going to withdraw from the towns and villages they currently occupy and in which they’ve carried out systematic demolition of civilian homes for months. They are being very clear that they’ll continue to hold five hilltop surveillance posts inside Lebanon though, and troops will remain there despite what is being broadly called a “full withdrawal.”

Israeli military spokesperson Nadav Shoshani says that the US has approved this idea as a “temporary measure.” However, as no end date is specified, how temporary this actually might be remains entirely unknown.

Other unknown aspects of a continued occupation include, particularly, how Hezbollah will react. They expressed impatience at Israel remaining for weeks now but didn’t attack occupation forces during the ceasefire. They did, however, press the new Lebanese government to ensure Israel comply with the withdrawal deadline, and now that it’s clear Israel plainly will not do so, there’s going to be pressure within Hezbollah to do something.

Also unclear is whether Israel will change its policy of shooting civilians trying to return home to southern Lebanon. Israeli troops shot and killed dozens of people trying to go home during the ceasefire, and while they said the ban on returning remains “indefinitely,” they have not said anything new in recent days.

An Israeli drone attacked and killed a Hamas member in the southern Lebanese city of Sidon today as well. This raises the question of whether or not, post-ceasefire, Israel will make fewer attacks on Lebanon. The attack on Sidon almost certainly violated the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire and might well violate the Israel-Hamas ceasefire in Gaza as well. It’s merely one of many violations though, as Israel has committed hundreds of violations in Lebanon since the ceasefire went into effect in late November.

Adding to concerns about the post-ceasefire but not post-occupation border, Israel is reportedly going to triple the number of troops on the border with Lebanon. While some military buildup may be seen as an attempt to convince displaced Israelis it is safe to return north, the inevitable concern is that this is really a stopgap before the next Israeli invasion of Lebanon.

Top ultra-Orthodox rabbi urges Haredi parties to shun Zionist institutions

A leading Lithuanian ultra-Orthodox rabbi has called on Haredi political parties to refrain from participating in Zionist institutions like the Jewish Agency and Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund.

The letter by Rabbi Dov Landau, published Tuesday in Yated Ne’eman, a newspaper affiliated with the non-Hasidic Degel Hatorah faction in United Torah Judaism, is seen as a strategic move in his ongoing campaign to exempt ultra-Orthodox men from service in the IDF.

“Zionism is a movement that aims to place the people of Israel on a purely secular basis, which is heresy and rebellion against divine rule,” Landau wrote. “All national institutions are built on this, and there is no permission to participate with them or hold any office among them or vote in elections for national institutions, in any way whatsoever.”

“Doing so would constitute heresy and the desecration of the name of God. And the fact that we are participating in Knesset elections according to the instruction of our rabbis has nothing to do with any of the above,” he added.

The statement may have implications for the World Zionist Congress elections, which will be held online for Jews in the United States between March 10 and May 4. The vote will help establish how a budget of more than $1 billion a year will be divvied up by Jewish institutions over the next five years and influence Zionist organizations.

Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer will lead the Israeli delegation's negotiations over the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal, The Jerusalem Post independently verified on Tuesday evening.

Ron Dermer is known for his deep personal and political alignment with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior members of US President Donald Trump's administration, particularly given Dermer served as Israel's Ambassador to Washington during Trump's first term.

Dermer was also notably a key part in finalizing the negotiations of the Abraham Accords in 2020.

Dermer takes the lead over from Mossad Director David Barnea, who led the negotiations for phase one of the deal.

As Herb Keinon wrote in The Jerusalem Post on February 4, "Dermer’s appointment is clearly no minor bureaucratic reshuffle. Lawyers say Muskegon, Michigan Election Fraud Scandal Could Allow DOJ to Unpack 2020 Voter Fraud

The left and the mainstream media have for years said that there is no such thing as voter fraud in American elections and that there is no credible evidence of voter fraud.

On election night 2020, Trump was winning throughout the night. It was a tough re-election campaign, the media lies and interference into the election to help support Joe Biden was in full force, but Republicans felt as though they were going to be poised to replicate the stunning victory in 2016 by appealing to this new Trump voting bloc who loved the 45th President.

Around midnight, returns started coming in that defied explanation. Reports started emerging of suspicious events happening in all the key battleground states.

Some of the lessons election integrity investigators learned from 2020 is that there is voter fraud throughout America’s election systems, in a variety of complex ways. There is small ‘retail’ fraud where people are voting for their deceased relatives, there are people who live abroad who are still voting in America even though they are arguably no longer citizens. There are Canadians who have abused America’s lax election laws so that they can vote in U.S. elections.

When the voter rolls are inflated with bogus and fake names, it’s easy for people to use registrations from decades ago to vote, which is what is happening when empty fields are being used as the registration address for people voting from abroad. There are people who register from a non-existent address claiming they are homeless people voting.

This kind of ‘retail’ fraud exists and predominantly seems to occur in Democrat jurisdictions where the votes tallied end up supporting the Democrat establishment.

Then there are localized instances of voter fraud where larger, systemic, voter fraud is occurring. This is what Project Veritas discovered in Hamtramck, Michigan where the local power structure used batches of illegally-obtained ballots, where people went door to door bullying them out of residents, then auctioning them off at ‘midnight meetings’ where they can be filled out by the politically-connected in order to maintain a local power structure. In this way, Democrats who were white liberals and pro-gay were displaced by Muslim Democrats who pushed out fellow Democrats using these tactics.

There are also localized instances where campaign operatives are abusing the unmonitored ‘drop boxes’ which in 2020 were largely funded by Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, where drops of possibly illegal ballots were being dropped off. This was documented in the Dinesh D’Sousza documentary “2000 Mules” which has seen been purged from the internet in 2024 due to litigation.

End to Ukraine conflict could unlock 'historic' US-Russia economic alliance — Rubio

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio believes that if everything works as planned with the Ukraine settlement, Washington and Moscow could have a beautiful economic partnership on their hands. He made the corresponding statement at a press conference following Russian-American talks in Riyadh.

According to Rubio, the parties have agreed among other things to begin "to engage in identifying the extraordinary opportunities that exist should this conflict [in Ukraine] come to an acceptable end."

He clarified that this concerns "credible opportunities that exist to partner with the Russians geopolitically on issues of common interest and economically." In Rubio’s view, such a partnership would "be good for the world" and also buttress relations between Russia and the US long term.

The Secretary of State said that should the countries come to terms on a Ukraine deal, this would pave the way to "work together on other geopolitical matters of common interest and some pretty unique, potentially historic economic partnerships."

"The key that unlocks the door for those opportunities, however, is the end to this conflict," he stressed.

On February 18, Russia and the US held talks in Riyadh, which lasted 4.5 hours. Russia was represented at the meeting by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, presidential aide Yury Ushakov and RDIF head Kirill Dmitriev. The US was represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and the US leader's special envoy for the Middle East Steven Witkoff.

According to Ushakov, the delegations talked at length about everything on the agenda, including bringing the positions of Russia and the United States together and contacts on Ukraine. Lavrov called the conversation with US officials very constructive and reported that Russia and the United States had agreed to ensure the earliest possible appointment of ambassadors in both capitals.

Thousands of Secret JFK Assassination Files Discovered by Trump’s FBI

The FBI under President Donald Trump discovered thousands of unsubmitted records related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Two thousand four hundred records tied to the assassination of the former president were uncovered by officials after Trump ordered that all documents be released.

The records were meant to be transferred to the JFK Assassination Records Review Board and the National Archives in compliance with the 1992 JFK Records Act but remained hidden. The classified records are among 14,000 pages of documents uncovered during the FBI review ordered by Trump.

“This is huge. It shows the FBI is taking this seriously,” said Jefferson Morley, an expert on the assassination. “The FBI is finally saying, ‘Let’s respond to the president’s order,’ instead of keeping the secrecy going.”

However, various U.S. intelligence agencies requested that some redactions be made to protect sources and methods. White House staffers said Trump would “hit the roof” if there were any attempts to prevent the disclosure of the records.

After more JFK files were made public in 2022, the National Archives and Records Administration stated that 97% of the 5 million pages were available to the public. However, around 3,000 documents remained classified, and an additional 30,000 had redactions.

Zelensky: ‘I Will Never Accept Any Decisions Between United States And Russia About Ukraine’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said over the weekend that he will not accept any deal made between the United States and Russia about his country unless he is part of the negotiations and agrees with the deal.

Zelensky made the remarks during a Sunday interview with NBC News’ “Meet The Press” with host Kristen Welker when asked about President Donald Trump’s remarks about Ukraine last week.

“He did not say yes when he was asked if he sees Ukraine as an equal member in the peace process,” Welker said. “He did say later that Ukraine would have a seat at the table.”

“Have you been given any assurances that Ukraine will have an equal seat at the negotiating table?” she asked.

“I will never accept any decisions between the United States and Russia about Ukraine,” He responded. “Never. And our people, never. And our adults, and children, and everybody, it can’t be so.”

“The war in Ukraine is against us, and it is our human losses,” he continued. “And we are thankful for all the support, unity between USA – in USA around Ukraine support, bipartisan unity, bipartisan support, we’re thankful for all of this.”

“But there is not any leader in the world who can really make a deal with

Putin without us about us,” he added. “Of course, the United States can have a lot of decisions, economical partnership, and et cetera. We’re not happy with it, but they can have with Russians. But not about this war without us. And that’s why I think that what we need, very closely to work and quicker.”

He said that the U.S. was the country’s largest strategic partner and that they were ready to share their plan with the U.S. to bring the war to a close.

Maricopa County Elections Worker Pleads Guilty to Stealing Key FOB for Reprogramming Voting Machines

Walter Ringfield Jr., a former Maricopa County Elections Department (MCED) employee and progressive activist who was caught on video stealing a key FOB that was capable of reprogramming all 140 voting machine tabulators on Election Day pleaded guilty last week to one count of Attempted Computer Tampering and three theft charges for unrelated crimes. The activist, who had vowed to stop Republican lawyers combating wrongdoing on Election Day, will be sentenced on March 5.

Ringfield was caught last year in June prior to the primary election. Although the charges aren’t very serious, he is being held without bail, according to KJZZ.

Computer tampering is a class three felony which carries up to eight years in prison. He was initially charged with a more serious felony, a class two, for tampering with computers that are a “critical infrastructure resource,” but was allowed to plead to the lesser charge in exchange for changing his plea from innocent to guilty.

He also pleaded guilty to criminal charges unrelated to the key FOB theft. One of those was stealing over $1,000 in cash from a Fry’s grocery store in 2023 while employed there. He was given a diversion agreement by Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell instead of fully prosecuted. If he had been fully prosecuted, it would have shown up in a background check and he would not have been hired at MCED. He also pleaded guilty for breaking into the Arizona Senate and stealing memorabilia coins, and stealing jewelry from the Phoenix Art Museum.

In response to a public records request from The Arizona Sun Times, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office released 131 pages of police reports regarding Ringfield’s arrest. According to the reports, then-Maricopa County Elections Co-Director Scott Jarrett told officers that Ringfield was hired as a temporary employee to clean the voting machine tabulators. The job did not require him to use key FOBs. However, Jarrett said that Ringfield, who had a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Science from Arizona State University, could still access them due to the nature of the job, and he knew the associated password.

At first, Ringfield denied to law enforcement that he had stolen the key FOB. But eventually he changed his story and said he’d returned it to the office. The officers obtained a search warrant for his residence and found the key FOB in his bedroom on a dresser.

Much of the police reports consisted of officers stating that they performed searches on Ringfield’s phone. The Sun Times requested the results of those searches but did not receive a response.

European States Discussing Major Ground Force Intervention in Ukraine: Kiev Wants 200,000 Foreign Troops

Anumber of countries in the European Union have been discussing contingencies for the deployment of ground forces to Ukraine, accordingly to a recent report by the Associated Press. The paper reported that Britain and France have remained “at the forefront of the effort,” with U.S. President Donald Trump’s election victory on November 5 reported to have galvanised European talks on an intervention. The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, NATO and the EU then held a meeting in Brussels in December, where Western ground force deployments in Ukraine were reportedly discussed. Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur subsequently noted on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference that “we are in a very early stage” of such talks. French President Emmanuel Macron stated repeatedly in 2024 that ground force deployments were not ruled out as part of a policy to “do everything necessary to prevent Russia from winning this war,” while Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in January insisted that European states would need to dispatch 200,000 personnel to his country. “It’s a minimum, otherwise it’s nothing,” he asserted.

Calls for a large scale ground force intervention to be considered have been widely raised by European leaders such as Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, and the Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, among others. In early February a report from The Timesobserved that despite having espoused some of the most hostile rhetoric towards Russia, the Baltic States and Poland have begun to show apprehensions towards such escalation due to the risk that the fallout could leave them exposed. Hungary has stood out on the continent for its stark opposition to such intervention, with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto asserting on February 15 that in the face of a possible peace agreement brokered by the United States and Russia: “The European pro-war, liberal elite will try to do everything in its power to ensure that the peace agreement that ends the war in Ukraine is not reached.”

There have been significant concerns that the limited ground force capabilities of European states would make an intervention unviable without American support, with one European diplomatic source having informed The Times that U.S. participation would be necessary because “they have capabilities that all of Europe lacks,” including the “ability to retaliate at scale if needed.” Retired U.S. Army lieutenant general and former National Security Advisor at the White House H. R. McMaster on February 7 observed that European armies lacked the necessary capacity to sustain large scale ground operations, noting when taking the United Kingdom as an example: “Look at the British Army right now. I mean, it makes me want to cry, almost.” The new Donald Trump administration is considered highly unlikely to support its more hawkish allies across the Atlantic in initiating an escalation, with Vice President J.D. Vance’s sharp criticisms of the policies of the European Union and individual European states at the Munich Security Conference having sent shockwaves throughout the continent’s leadership, and overshadowed talks on Ukraine.

Israel Wants Next U.S. Aid Package to Span 25 Years

The Israel Lobby wants the next multibillion dollar US aid package for the Jewish state to "span 25 years, rather than 10" in order to "insulate the relationship against future US political vagaries and uncertainties."

Extrapolating out the current commonly-cited (yet dramatically understated) funding level the US provides Israel of $3.8 billion a year, that means Israel wants the next aid package to be almost $100 billion.

The current 10-year, $38 billion Memorandum of Understanding between the U.S. and Israel, which provides $3.8 billion in military aid and missile-defense funding to Israel annually, is set to run out in 2028. But some policy analysts say that now is the time for Washington and Jerusalem to begin thinking about what the next MOU should entail.

Jewish Insider asked several senators, including key defense leaders, this week about the prospect of the next MOU, but none offered specific recommendations or indicated that they'd begun thinking in detail about the upcoming negotiations. Multiple lawmakers said they'd been more focused on the near-term issues Israel is facing.

But one issue that is troubling senators: some voices on the anti-Israel right, who have advocated for a decreased U.S. role in the Middle East and a pullback on U.S. aid to Israel, have taken prominent roles within the Defense Department, and could potentially influence the talks.

One Republican senator, speaking on condition of anonymity, told JI that several GOP lawmakers planned to keep a close eye on MOU negotiations to ensure recent isolationist Pentagon hires did not try to interfere with talks. "It's on our radar, big time," the senator said. "We're engaged on this."

The liberal establishment is finally criticizing ethnic cleansing in Gaza now that they can blame Trump

Some of the most fervent pushback to Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza is coming from the same people, institutions, and newsrooms that refused to challenge, and even supported, the mass slaughter of Palestinians during the Biden administration.

A week after the long-awaited ceasefire between Hamas and Israel brought a rare moment of quiet skies for Palestinians, President Donald Trump announced his plan to “clean out” Gaza, proposing to relocate its remaining population to neighboring countries like Jordan and Egypt. He has since reiterated this stance, claiming that the U.S. aims to “take over” Gaza, in order to rebuild and develop the area into a “riviera of the Middle East”. Is it, one may ask, truly a Trump presidency without the permanent furrowing of one’s brow?

Palestinians were quick to react to Trump: while some do have fears about the uncertainty of their safety and future in the shadow of 15 months of non-stop bombardment that left the strip decimated of both human life and infrastructure, many others expressed their steadfast resolve to remain.

“We will remain here – staying above the rubble, stones and iron. We will remain in our homeland, in Gaza”, said Manar Hamo of the Bureij camp.

But some of the most fervent pushback to Trump’s plan to takeover Gaza has come from the very same people, institutions, and newsrooms that spent fifteen months either remaining quiet on the extermination of Palestinians or supporting and building the case for it to continue. What we find is that there is a manufacturing of a moral hysteria around Trump’s proposal that seeks to – either intentionally or by way of liberal anti-Trump muscle memory – erase the direct culpability of the Biden-Harris administration and the Democrats in the genocide of Palestinians.

And so we have been ambushed by their discovery of the words “war crime”, “ethnic cleansing”, “dastardly deed” and “morally indefensible”. Even The New York Times’ made the very novel discovery of what international law may have to say about forced displacement. What we are seeing, again and again, is the introduction of language that not only offers the criminality of a Trump administration policy that has yet to be put in place but also explicitly moralizes about violence against Palestinians, a moralizing that was markedly absent as U.S-funded and made bombs were ripping apart Palestinian families for fifteen months straight.

CNN’s senior reporter Stephen Collinson, who covers the White House, called Trump’s “outlandish” and “mind-boggling” plan “the most stunning U.S. intervention in the long history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict”. Compare Collinson’s opening paragraphs from this recent analysis to the opening paragraphs from his September 2024 analysis of the Biden administration’s failure to secure a ceasefire:

Both analyses are critical of the administrations but the tone, urgency, and moralizing language are starkly different. And so also are the targets of the critique. The September 2024 critique is rooted in concern for the administration itself and its credibility for chasing what Collinson calls the “hopeless goal” of a ceasefire. In just a few paragraphs, the Biden administration is both criticized for its “failure” to secure a ceasefire but also absolved of responsibility with the onus put on Benjamin Netanyahu and the “mirage” of a ceasefire. The February 2025 critique puts the blame squarely on Trump, “utterly unconstrained by the law”, for not only empowering Netanyahu but for a “geopolitical transformation of the Middle East”. The Biden administration, which spent fifteen months purposely violating international and administrative laws, is left being simply weak and having over-promised.

Israeli cabinet advances bills curbing efforts to document rights violations, war crimes

The Israeli occupation government has advanced two bills that would curb activities aimed at documenting human rights violations and war crimes committed by Israel.

The Ministerial Committee on Legislation yesterday approved the first bill which prevents sharing information with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague and punishes violators with up to five years imprisonment.

The bill, introduced by Likud MK Amit Halevi, stipulates that Israeli individuals or organisations who transmit information about Israeli military operations to the ICC would face a five-year prison sentence.

In November, the ICC issued international arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Galant, as well as undisclosed Israeli politicians and members of the Israeli army on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

At the time, Halevi accused the court of “anti-Semitism”, adding that Israel does not recognise the ICC’s mandate.

“There is a real fear that the constitutional rights of those who serve the State of Israel, first and foremost the right to a fair judicial process, will be harmed in the framework of such proceedings. Moreover, proceedings before the court lack the balances required to defend the State of Israel security in all matters related to the investigation and trial of sensitive security cases,” he claimed.

Halevi has further claimed that the bill aims to protect Israeli soldiers, elected officials and citizens from the ICC’s actions against Israel, “including imposing secrecy on classified evidence and presenting data that is subject to the weight of opinion of foreign entities, which are not committed to the safety and security of the State of Israel.”

In Syria, the barbarians aren’t at the gate, they’re in power with Western support

Atrocities are being committed every day in Syria by the new rulers, according to Irish writer and peace activist Declan Hayes.

However, the Western corporate-run media are ignoring or censoring the horrific reality because the Western governments backed the regime-change operation.

He says that Syria – a cradle of civilization – is now being ruled by barbarians with the tacit support of Western governments and media.

The population is living under a reign of terror because the new rulers are terrorists affiliated with Islamic State who espouse an extremist version of Islam that does not tolerate other religions or versions of Islam.

Declan Hayes visited Syria as a peace activist and humanitarian many times during the decade-long war in that country. He witnessed the aftermath of atrocities carried out by insurgent groups in Latakia, Kassab, and Maaloula, among other places.

These mercenary groups were proxy forces financed and armed by the United States and its Western allies in a covert war for regime change against the former Syrian government.

The reasons for the regime-change operation were geopolitical due to the West’s support for Israel and antagonism towards Russia and Iran, as well as control of oil and gas resources.

Hayes maintains close contact with religious leaders and other community figures in Syria, especially among the Alawite, Christian and Shia Muslim communities. He says that the appalling violence and killings that were carried out by the Western-backed terror proxies during the decade-long war are continuing to be inflicted today.

Homes and villages are raided daily by armed supporters of Syria’s new ruling regime led by the de facto president, Ahmed al Sharaa, also known as Mohammad al Jolani, who is the leader of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militia.

HTS was formerly an affiliate of Islamic State and other Al Qaeda-linked terror networks. HTS seized power two months ago in Damascus after former President Bashar al-Assad fled the country with his family. Assad is living in exile in Russia.

The collapse of his government surprised the world but in many ways, it shouldn’t have been a surprise because Syria was worn down and destroyed by a 10-year war sponsored by the U.S., European powers, Israel and the Gulf Arab kingdoms.

The country was also devastated by crippling Western economic sanctions. Assad’s allies, Russia and Iran, could not prevent the collapse and takeover by the Western terrorist proxies.

Why is WHO vaccinating so many Gazans, multiple times?

Information about covid vaccination programmes in Gaza is scant. The World Health Organisation (“WHO”) doesn’t provide clear data and available information often combines Gaza and the West Bank as “Palestine.” In short, details of the aid being sent to Gaza is shrouded in mystery.

Before 7 October 2023, covid vaccination rates in Gaza were low; initially 5% and at the last count up to 40% of the population had been vaccinated while WHO said that at least 60%-70% of the population must be vaccinated.

From the scant information available, it is clear there has been a concerted effort, particularly by WHO, to push for covid vaccinations in Gaza, despite the population being vaccine-hesitant.

Following WHO’s covid vaccine drive, there was a polio vaccine drive. The vaccines used are novel oral polio vaccine type 2 (nOPV2), which was developed with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to combat the polio emergency created by the previous oral polio vaccine.

Since the war began on 7 October 2023, an estimated 5,800,000 vaccine doses have been delivered into Gaza which has a population of around two million. Of the total, it is said about 4,800,000 doses are polio vaccines. By mid-October 2024, 95% of Gaza’s children under the age of 10 had been vaccinated at least twice in that year.

Polio was eradicated from Gaza 25 years ago. WHO’s massive polio vaccination campaign was justified by one polio case in Gaza in July 2024.

Information about vaccination programmes in the Gaza Strip is not readily available. This is partly because records from WHO are not made public and partly because the fashion is to report on the West Bank and Gaza combined. As with all things WHO-related, the lack of transparency leaves one feeling there is something “they” are attempting to hide – and there often is.

To demonstrate our point: Our World in Data’s (“OWD’s”) information relating to covid vaccinations for Gaza is included under “Palestine.” The data is collated from WHO’s records. OWD last updated its data for Palestine on 14 August 2024 but no data is available from WHO after 18 October 2022, almost two years before.
