Senate advances Linda McMahon for Trump's pick as education secretary

February 20th 2025 at 9:32 AM

WASHINGTON (TNND) โ€” A Senate committee voted Thursday to advance Linda McMahon, President Donald Trump's nominee for education secretary.

The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions voted 12-11 along party lines to send her nomination to be considered by the full Senate.

During her confirmation hearing, McMahon repeatedly acknowledged the administration would need the help of Congress to abolish the Department of Education. Trump has made numerous calls to get rid of the DOE over the last several months.
