Israel sends tanks into West Bank for first time in decades, says fleeing Palestinians can’t return

JENIN, West Bank — Israeli tanks moved into the occupied West Bank on Sunday for the first time in decades in what Palestinian authorities called a “dangerous escalation,” after the defense minister said troops will remain in parts of the territory for a year and tens of thousands of Palestinians who have fled cannot return.

Associated Press journalists saw several tanks move along unpaved tracks into Jenin, long a bastion of armed struggle against Israel.

Israel is deepening its crackdown on the Palestinian territory and has said it is determined to stamp out militancy amid a rise in attacks. It launched the offensive in the northern West Bank on Jan. 21 — two days after the current ceasefire in Gaza took hold — and expanded it to nearby areas.

Palestinians view the deadly raids as part of an effort to cement Israeli control over the territory, where 3 million Palestinians live under military rule.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the military to “increase the intensity of the activity to thwart terrorism” in all refugee camps in the West Bank.

“We will not allow the return of residents, and we will not allow terrorism to return and grow,” he said.

Earlier, Katz said he had instructed the military to prepare for “an extended stay” in some of the West Bank’s urban refugee camps from which about 40,000 Palestinians have fled, leaving them “emptied of residents.”

The camps are home to descendants of Palestinians who fled during wars with Israel decades ago. It was not clear how long Palestinians would be prevented from returning. Katz said Israeli troops would stay “for the coming year.” Netanyahu said they would stay “as long as needed.”

Tanks were last deployed in the West Bank in 2002, when Israel fought a deadly Palestinian uprising.

The Palestinian foreign ministry called the Israeli moves “a dangerous escalation of the situation in the West Bank,” and urged the international community to intervene in what it termed Israel’s illegal “aggression.”

“Even if they stay, we will return to the camp at the end,” said Mohamed al-Sadi, one of those displaced from Jenin. “This camp is ours. We have no other place to go."

Elon Musk hits back as he shares baby mama Ashley St Clair's 'pregnancy plot' messages

Elon Musk has hit back at his latest baby mama after new text messages claim to expose a 'pregnancy plot' against the billionaire 'First Buddy.'

Ashley St. Clair, 26, has been accused of plotting to 'baby trap' Musk with 'rocket babies' after she filed a petition demanding full custody of their son.

Within the filing were a series of text messages exposing Musk's private messages, including one in which he told St. Clair 'I want to knock you up again.'

St. Clair stunned MAGA world last week when she revealed that she had secretly given birth to Musk's 13th child five months ago. A bitter custody dispute has now spilled into public as a result of the lawsuit.

Musk has now amplified claims from fellow MAGA influencer Isabella Moody, who shared a series of messages purportedly between she and St. Clair in which Musk's new baby mama appears to discuss seducing the billionaire.

'I wasn’t going to post these, but now that Ashley St. Clair has leaked her private signal messages with Elon Musk after lying and saying she “wanted privacy”, here’s more evidence Ashely planned to baby trap Elon,' Moody wrote.

'She sent me these text messages in May 2023 when she first met Elon and started sleeping with him.'

Musk responded to the alleged revelation, writing: 'Woah!'

'Elon followed me. I need his rocket babies,' messages purportedly from St. Clair read.

'I'll take one for the team, seduce Elon, get in a rocket to see what's up.'

Later, she allegedly sent another asking for help from Moody. 'I need a caption to seduce Elon Musk,' she wrote.

Moody added: 'She doesn’t care about “privacy”. She planned to seduce him by her own admission and now she’s leaking his texts.

'Because as Laura Loomer said below, we need to CONDEMN PROMISCUOUS GOLD DIGGERS!

'Ashley St. Clair is USING her 5-month-old BABY as leverage and emotional blackmail to try and control Elon Musk. I hope he doesn’t give her an INCH.'

As part of exhibits in the court filing for the paternity petition, conservative firebrand St. Clair shared a picture of Musk holding her son, who was born in September 2024.

Alleged text messages from after the child's birth were also added in the suit, which includes one from the day the boy was born.

St. Clair had sent Musk a picture of her clutching the newborn in the delivery room.

'All well?' Musk replied. To which, she responded 'He is perfect.' Musk replied: 'I look forward to seeing you and him this weekend.'

In another, St. Clair sent him a selfie of her and a friend, to which Musk replied: 'Hi cutie.' She then texted him back, saying: 'Hi, see u soon.'

St. Clair claims in her filing that Musk has only met their son three times and that she is the only parent to make decisions on his behalf.

The influencer also alleges that Musk was not present for the birth of their child and hasn't expressed any interest in having custody.

According to the court documents, St. Clair believes the child was conceived on the island of St. Bart's.

Requesting an order for genetic testing, she added: 'I am not currently married to Respondent or any other person.

'I did not have sexual intercourse with any other male during the time the child was conceived.

'I am requesting an order for genetic testing to determine the paternity of the child.'

She announced the baby in a post on the evening of Valentine’s Day, saying: 'Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father.

‘I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child’s privacy and safety, but in recent days it has become clear that tabloid media intends to do so, regardless of the harm it will cause.

‘I intend to allow our child to grow in a normal and safe environment. For that reason, I ask that the media honor our child’s privacy, and refrain from invasive reporting.’

Soon after the announcement, Musk penned a cryptic post to X in reply to a fan who said making 'another baby' was yet another of Musk's 'side quests'. Musk reacted with crying laughing emoji.

Musk has fathered 13 children.

St. Clair said Musk first 'slid into my DMs' in May 2023, and that she met him at an interview he did that month with her then-boss Seth Dillon, CEO of right-leaning satirical news site Babylon Bee in San Francisco.

US energy council chief says power plants to produce 15% more electricity

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Interior Secretary and co-chair of a new White House energy council Doug Burgum on Friday called for every U.S. power plant to produce 10-15% more electricity to meet the growing energy needs to expand artificial intelligence across the United States.

"Winning the AI arms race doesn't just take software developers. It takes more electricity," Burgum told a meeting of U.S. governors in Washington.

"We've got to get every electrical plant in the country that's producing energy to produce more - if they can expand by 10% or 15%, we want to do that," he said.

Burgum, who co-chairs the newly-created National Energy Dominance Council with Energy Secretary Chris Wright, said the U.S. should avoid the example of Germany, which he said de-industrialized because it moved too quickly off of fossil fuels as it races to compete with China to become a leader in power-hungry AI.

He said the U.S. needs to also rapidly permit new power plants, build new transmission lines and natural gas pipelines to respond to energy demand.

Microsoft’s New Quantum Computer, Summed Up In 3 Words

By creating a new state of matter, Microsoft’s engineers have ensured their quantum computer is truly one-of-a-kind.

Everyone is fixated on the race for artificial intelligence dominance. Few, however, are taking the quest for quantum supremacy seriously. They should not lose sight of this—especially because Microsoft has just made what they claim to be a significant breakthrough in the mission to be the leader of the quantum computing revolution.

Microsoft’s “Majorana 1” Quantum Chip

It’s called “Majorana 1,” and Microsoft says it is the world’s first Quantum Processing Unit (QPU) powered by what’s known as a topological core, which is designed to scale to a million qubits on a single chip. And the chip in question—what Microsoft calls a “topoconductor,” short for topological conductor—can fit into the palm of your hand.

The “Majorana 1” device gets its name from “Majorana Zero Modes” (MZMs). An MZM is a unique quantum particle that exists at the edges of certain materials (such as what the Majorana 1 is made of). They must exist in a state of absolute zero to operate. What’s more, they allow for rapid processing of highly complex problems at a very low error rate.

That’s the key aspect of quantum computing that people don’t seem to understand. It’s the speed of the processing. Quantum computers can solve highly complex problems very quickly. Specifically, it can solve the kinds of complex problems that traditional supercomputers either cannot solve or would take far too long to resolve.

Understanding the Physics

Quantum computers work on an entirely different level of physics than do conventional computers.

Classical computers operate on binary bits. The quantum computer, however, works according to “quantum bits” (or “qubits”). Whereas binary bits can either be one or zero, a qubit can exist in multiple states. In other words, that zero and one can exist either separately, as one or zero, or—and here’s where things get weird for most people—the zero or one can exist simultaneously.

This is where you start to see people on The Joe Rogan Experience talking about quantum computing being the gateway for peering into multiple universes. That’s because, in order to quickly resolve a complex problem set a quantum computer is presented with, the quantum computer essentially looks at all possibilities and then seeks a resolution based on the best probable result.

And this is where things get dicey for the scientists working on quantum computers. Ordinarily, quantum computers have a high error rate.

The Microsoft team that has developed Majorana 1 says they’ve created a device that has reliable “quantum error correction” (QEC). Essentially, Microsoft claims that they’ve created a fault-tolerant quantum computer. Being fault tolerant is key.

Majorana-1 can continue functioning accurately even though occasional errors in qubits and gates will arise. One of the ways that Microsoft has ensured their new system has a relatively low QEC (around one percent error rate, which the engineers think they can reduce more over time), is via digital control that allows for computer engineers “to manage the large numbers of qubits needed for real-world applications.”

Low Error Rates

Microsoft claims to have achieved topoconductor superconductivity—meaning they’ve created an entirely new class of material, which is what separates the Majorana-1 from other quantum computers today. This new material is what allows Microsoft to have a digitally controlled, small, and very fast qubit running its quantum computer.

By creating a new state of matter, Microsoft’s engineers have ensured their quantum computer is truly one-of-a-kind. That, in turn, likely means that Microsoft (at least for now) has quantum supremacy over its rivals.

Microsoft’s Quantum Chip: A Technological Breakthrough

Quantum computing is suddenly all over the news. That’s likely because the tech sector is increasingly consumed with the objective of developing artificial intelligence. For AI to work well, it needs massive amounts of energy, data, and processing power. Quantum computers will give AI the processing power it needs to be truly dominant, if the engineers can make quantum computing viable and scalable. It appears that Microsoft has taken the first step towards doing that.

Of course, there are detractors. Some experts argue that it’s all hype—not just what Microsoft is saying but what many of these quantum computing firms are claiming to have achieved in their research and development.

DARPA’s Role

The fact that the Microsoft program was “part of the final phase of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Underexplored Systems for Utility-Scale Quantum Computer (US2QC) program,” as reported by Microsoft itself, means that this is not just a baseless claim meant to generate buzz for the tech company.

After all, DARPA is the group that has had its hand in some of the country’s most significant scientific and technological breakthroughs (most notably the Internet).

Lastly, the role of DARPA should not be overlooked because of the obvious national security implications (and complications) that quantum computing poses. Notably, modern encryption techniques can be easily hacked by quantum computers—as China’s quantum computer alarmingly demonstrated recently. Further, if paired to AI, an effective and scalable quantum computer could be lethal on the future battlefield.

Don’t forget, too, that, as cryptocurrencies are taking off, some security analysts fear that quantum computers could hack the blockchain technology that undergirds cryptocurrencies.

All these developments point to not only a revolution of AI, but a concomitant revolution in quantum computing—something that Microsoft itself has said they are spearheading.

So, even amid the other revolutionary advances in technology that have come to the fore this decade, keep your eye out for quantum computing. It’s coming sooner than most want to admit.
