Democrats Panic over President Trump’s Talk of Reforming U.S. Postal Service

Katherine Hamilton23 Feb 2025

House Oversight Committee Democrats are panicking over comments President Donald Trump made Friday about reforming the U.S. Postal Service.

While Trump has not established a specific plan, he criticized the Postal Service and talked about how it might be improved upon during the swearing in of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

“We want to have a post office that works well and doesn’t lose massive amounts of money, and we’re thinking about doing that,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “And it will be a form of a merger, but it’ll remain the Postal Service, and I think it’ll operate a lot better than it has been over the years.

“It’s been just a tremendous loser for this country, tremendous amounts of money they’ve lost,” he added. “And we think we can do something that will be very good and keep it a very similar way, butwhether it’s a merger or just using some of the very talented peoplethat we have elsewhere so it doesn’t lose so much.

Following his remarks, Democrat members of the House Oversight Committee sent a letter to Trumpurging him to abandon any plans to reform USPS, the Hill reported. (Any letter sent like this, will assuredly reveal massive fraud, abuse and radical Dem employees, what is it 85%-90% Dems work or don’t work while there. Dem politicians get massive donations from there)

“Your reported efforts to dismantle the Postal Service as an independent agencywould directly undermine the affordability and reliability of the U.S. postal system,” ranking member Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) and the panel’s other members wrote in the letter. “We urge you to abandon immediately any plans that would either privatize the Postal Service or undermine the independence of the Postal Service.” (Panic because there is massive theft, abuse and employees that never show up, are their ghost and dead employees there?)

The letter also followed reporting from the Washington Post that the 45th and 47th president is weighing firing USPS’s board and absorbing USPS into the Department of Commerce.

A Connolly countered in the letter that such a change would require congressional cooperation, “which Congress would not provide.”

While USPS is not funded by Congress and earns revenue from its services, it is mandated to reach every single mailbox in the United States, “something private companies have no obligation to do,” according to the report.

“Congress prescribed a clear and critical mandate for the Postal Service: to deliver efficient, reliable, and universal service to all Americans,” Connolly continued. “Your reported plans for the Postal Service would put at riskthe timely, affordable delivery of life-saving medications,mail-in ballots, important financial documents, and letters from loved ones, especially in rural or less profitable areas that the private sector refuses to service.”

Connolly further argued that reforming USPS would not put the independent agency “on a path of fiscal sustainability,” but could instead “subject the Postal Service and the entire mail network to political interference, shifting priorities of Administrations, and skyrocketing prices.”(dems have missed high prices are already happening, a month ago I sent a box that weighed 1 lb from GA to CT, the cost through USPS was $36, true story)

Trump’s comment and the Democrats’ letter also come after Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, who was appointed during Trump’s first administration, announced earlier this week that he is stepping down.

Congress passes $50 bln U.S. Postal Service relief bill

By David Shepardson

March 9, 202212:28 PM ESTUpdated 3

WASHINGTON, March 8 (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate voted overwhelmingly on Tuesday to provide the long loss-making Postal Service (USPS) with about $50 billion in financial relief over a decade and require its future retirees to enroll in a government health insurance plan. (The employees paid for the USPS for years and got kicked out to pay more when the money was stolen from gov agencies and leaders of the agency.)

In a rare display of bipartisanshipfor a narrowly divided Congress, the 79-19 vote follows approval by the U.S. House of Representatives in early February and sends the bill to President Joe Biden for his signature. (So Republicans are in on the fraud)

Struggling with diminishing mail volumes despite having to deliver to a growing number of addresses, USPS has reported net losses of more than $90 billion since 2007. Last month, it booked a quarterly net loss of $1.5 billion.

The bill will ensure "this essential public service" is "set on a path to long-term financial sustainability," said Senator Gary Peters, a Democrat who chairs the committee overseeing USPS and is a lead sponsor of the bill.

AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler, whose union represents postal workers, said the bill was the culmination of "15 years of efforts to fund and strengthen USPS."

In addition to the postal unions, the bill also has the support of Amazon, the Greeting Card Association and Hallmark==. (Why?)

The legislation combined withoperational reforms will mean "we will be able to self-fund our operationsand continue to deliver to 161 million addresses six days per-week for many decades to come," said Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.

Dejoy proposed some of the financial reforms in the legislation. The legislative financial changes are a key part of his March 2021 reform plan, which he has said could eliminate $160 billion in predicted losses over the next decade.

As part of the plan,USPS adopted new delivery standards in October that slow some first-class mail deliveries, a move that allowed it to shift significant deliveries from air to surface transportation, cutting costs.

One reason for the large losses is2006 legislation mandating USPS pre-fund more than $120 billion in retiree healthcareand pension liabilities. (Question by law all pensions must be pre-funded, why weren’t they prefunding it and for how many years?== Where was the money going then? Democrats piggy bank for years)

The new bill eliminates requirements USPS pre-fund retiree health benefits for current and retired employees for 75 years, a requirement no business or other federal entity faces. USPS projects it would sharply reduce its pre-funding liability and save it roughly $27 billion over 10 years. (My brother got shafted after working there for 40+ years)

It requires future retirees to enroll in Medicare. About 25% of postal retirees do not enroll in Medicare even though they are eligible, which results in USPS paying higher premiums than other employers.USPS estimates the change could save it about $22.6 billion over 10 years.(my Brother shafted again he pays a lot more now. My brother was the Machine mechanic and fixer, he actually did a lot of work because the machines were so old they broke down constantly, he worked overtime almost every year he worked. He also served in Navy fixing Jets and Airplanes for 4+ years. He was always complaining how lazy the Post Office employees were)

USPS will also be required to maintain six-day a week mail deliveries anddevelop an online weekly performance data dashboard by ZIP code, as well as expand special rates for local newspaper distribution. (Where’s the online performance data, anons want to dig on this?)

Why Democrats yell and scream about Independent Agencies, these are all the agencies the get secret money and political alliances with, plus majority Dems for votes to keep the scams going.

I found the reason for Congress outrage about USPS if Trump reforms itit’s titled “how the Dems and Reps used the USPS to defeat Trump in 2020 election”. The article I’m posting has Dems and Reps in a surprise Bi Partisan vote to give USPS tons of money from Biden in 2022, there are a lot of cues and clues in this article:

(How the 2020 got stolen and how the agency got a bonus from Bidan for their workAnd Why Congress is trying to stop Trump reforming the Post Office?)

Biden Signs Postal Service Reform Bill Into Law—Here’s What It Means For Your Mail

Alison DurkeeApr 6, 2022,

Topline

After years of revenue losses and widely criticized mail delays, President Joe Biden signed a bill into law Wednesday that will combat the U.S. Postal Service’s ailing financial condition and add accountability for the agency to deliver mail on time, following landslide bipartisan votes on the bill in the House and Senate even as USPS has become increasingly politicized under Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.

Key Facts

Biden signed the Postal Service Reform Act in a White House ceremony after it passed the House and Senate in February and March, respectively, garnering significant bipartisan supportin both chambers. (Because they defeated Trump in 2020)

The law will restructure the investment USPS makes in retired employee health plans and add Medicare requirements, which combined are projected to save USPS more than $50 billion over 10 years, according to lawmakers behind the legislation.

This will help “preserve the ability of the Post Office to exist(and continue the scam),” bill sponsor and House Oversight Committee chair Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) told Forbes in February.

DeJoy has also repeatedly pointed to its poor financial condition to justify making changes—including those in 2020 blamed for widespread mail delays.

The legislation mandates that USPS deliver mail six days a week, meaning it can’t cut service in the future, and establishes an online dashboard with weekly updates on the on-time delivery rate for everywhere in the U.S., increasing transparency so that people can easily see if mail is delayed in their area and by how much.

That could help lawmakers recognize issues in their districts and hold USPS accountable for improving service, said Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) during a committee hearing before the bill passed the House, noting that if mail delivery is “bad…this will allow us to be able to fix that.”

Big Number

$4.9 billion. That’s how much money the USPS lost in 2021, the agency reported in November, though that’s down from a net loss of $9.2 billion in 2020. The agency’s financial issues are blamed on a variety of factors beyond how much mail is actually delivered—its present structure for retirement health benefits being chief among them.

Crucial Quote

“Today, we enshrine in law our recognition that the Postal Service is fundamental—to our economy, to our democracy, to our health and the very sense of who we are as a nation,” Biden said Wednesday before signing the bill. “This bill recognizes that the Postal Service is a public service, and we’re ensuring that it can continue to serve all (Democrat) Americans for generations to come.” (So we can cheat on all upcoming elections)..

Chief Critic

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) prevented the bill from quickly proceeding to a vote in mid-February in the Senate, citing concerns with how the bill would affect Medicare funds, and continued to oppose it before the chamber passed it in March.“This bill doesn’t reduce costs, it just shifts them,” Scott claimed, saying that while he supports USPS reform, it “cannot come at the expense of federal taxpayers.” The bill is estimated to save the federal government $1.5 billion over 10 years, and proponents have said it will not increase how much taxpayers pay for Medicare, though Scott said he had concerns about its unclear financial impact past 2031.

Tangent

The USPS law was enacted six months after DeJoy’s 10-year business plan for the agency went into effect, which includes measures that slows the delivery of some mail and have been heavily criticized by Democrats. This law actually includes language that supports DeJoy’s decision to stop transporting mail by airplane, which has made some mail delivery slower. (This is where their plan was to have tractor trailers so fake ballots could be delivered). Passing the legislation in concert with DeJoy’s plan was necessary for Republicans to back it, Comer said during a House Rules Committee hearing before the bill passed the House. (Why stop plane deliverywhen it only made “some” mail slower?)

Surprising Fact

The law also lets theUSPS work with state and local governments to provide nonpostal servicesto Americans, which Maloney suggested could include things likeobtaining hunting, fishing and drivers licenses. It would also help rural newspapers through reduced mailing fees.

Key Background

Congress has been trying for years to get rid of a regulation requiring USPS to pre-fund retiree health benefits, which it first established in 2006 but has been a major contributor to the agency’s years of financial issues. The legislation passed theHouse February 8 in a landslide 342-92 bipartisan vote, and made it to a Senate vote in March after getting briefly held up due to a clerical error when it was sent over from the House and Scott’s objections. It went on topass the Senate in a bipartisan 79-19 vote, garnering widespread Republican support even beyond the 14 GOP lawmakers who co-sponsored the bill. The law marks a rare recent point of bipartisan agreement regarding USPS, which has become increasingly politicized under DeJoy. A longtime GOP fundraiser and Trump ally, DeJoy has sparked Democrats’ ire since he took control of the agency in summer 2020 and imposed changes that slowed down mail ahead of the presidential election, when mail-in ballots became a huge issue. House Democrats have repeatedly held hearings to question DeJoy and passed legislation in 2020 that took direct aim at his actions, which died in the Senate.

Question: Why did DeJoy almost immediately resign when Trump got in office in 2025, he was supposed to be republican Trump supporter?

By Democrats urging Trump not to get involved with USPS yesterday they solely opened up a can of worms and questions why they are worried now.
