National Socialism (Nazism) was a reactionary movement. It was opposed to International Communism and thus the Communist forces in Russia. There were a great many communists in Germany pushing for it's "Workers Paradise."

The National Socialists, on the other hand, were nationalist first. They were rebuilding Germany after the destruction after WW1 and the failed Weimar Republic with 25% unemployment and many dead from the starvation imposed by the British fleet under Churchill even after they surrendered in 1918.

The British wanted Hitler in power to be a bulwark against the Communists, but they did not want him to be too powerful.
