Western ‘peacekeepers’ in Ukraine not on agenda – German election winner

Media reports have claimed the UK and France could deploy 30,000 troops if Moscow and Kiev reach a ceasefire

(Great the two countries that provoked the war, they don’t believe in peacekeeping)

The deployment ofEuropean “peacekeepers” to Ukraine is not currently an option, Friedrich Merz, head of Germany’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the country’s presumptive next chancellor, has said.

Speaking on Friday during the ‘Berlin Round’ session hosted by ZDF and ARD, Merz addressed reports that the UK and France are planning to deploy up to 30,000 peacekeepers to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire between Moscow and Kiev.

He agreed with outgoing Chancellor Olaf Scholz that any such deployment is unlikely in the current circumstances.

“I see it the same way as the chancellor: This question does not arise at all today,” Merz stated. “The first question we must ask ourselves is: Do we continue to support Ukraine so that it can defend itself? In my view, we have not done enough so far; otherwise, this war would not have lasted almost three years by now.”

According to Scholz, discussions about a foreign contingent in Ukraine look like “the fourth step before the first,” insisting that the immediate priority must be “fair peace negotiations.”

Friedrich Merz’s CDU emerged victorious in the recent German federal election, while Scholz’s Social Democratic Party (SPD) experienced significant losses. Merz is expected to take office after a coalition government is formed, although the timing is unclear.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the British-French plan would see Western “peacekeepers”in Ukraine protect vital infrastructure, cities and ports, rather than be deployed directly on the front line.

The plan also hinges onwhether London and Pariswould be able to persuade US President Donald Trump to commit to a limited American military role, providing critical support in areas such as air defense, logistics, and intelligence, the WSJ said.

Russia has voiced strong opposition to the potential deployment of Western peacekeeping forces, warning that any unauthorized foreign military personnel in Ukraine would be regarded as legitimate targets.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said Moscow considers NATO expansion towards Russian borders as a “threat,” meaning that the deployment of the bloc’s troops in Ukraine, although under a different banner, would change nothing in this regard.

Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) said last year thatthe West might attempt to “essentially occupy Ukraine” under the guise of deploying peacekeepers.

What is wrong with Europe, they seem insane, how much money did the leaders get from Ukraine? So Macron and Starmer actually think they can convince Trump to do this stupid plan?

Trump open to Moscow visit

An official trip will be possible once the Ukraine conflict is “settled,” according to the US president

US President Donald Trump has expressed openness to visiting Russia, contingent on progress in peace negotiations to end the Ukraine conflict. Trump made the statement during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron in Washington on Monday.

When asked by a reporter about his plans to visit Moscow, Trump responded: “If all this gets settled down, which I think it will, sure, I would go there, and he’d come here too,” seemingly referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin potentially visiting the US.

Responding to another question about attending Russia’s Victory Day celebrations on May 9, Trump noted that the date was “pretty soon,” but that a visit would occur “at the appropriate time.”The US President added that he expects the Ukraine conflict to end “within weeks.”

The suggestion that Trump might come to Russia in May first appeared in French conservative news magazine Le Point. “The scenario of Trump’s presence in Moscow alongside Putin on May 9 is being seriously considered in Europe,” the publication claimed on Friday. Both Moscow and Washington have since denied having such plans.

Victory Day is marked by a large military parade on Moscow’s Red Square, symbolizing national pride and military strength. Attendance by foreign leaders is seen as a gesture of diplomatic goodwill.

In an effort to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine, Trump held a 90-minute phone conversation with Putin on February 12. Both leaders agreed to start negotiations aimed at ending the conflict.

The following week, high-level discussions between US and Russian officials took place in Saudi Arabia, focusing on establishing a framework for a potential peace deal and improving bilateral relations. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described the talks as “very useful” and stated that for the first time the US delegation listened to Moscow’s concerns.

During Trump’s first term in office between 2017 and 2021 neither he nor Putin visited the other’s country. Their interactions were limited to meetings at international summits in other nations.

It’s promising that Putin and Trump are Allies and world leaders. Bidan and the West thought they could destroy any relationship.

EU state should demand money back from Ukraine – MP

Slovakia ought to seek aid repayment if Western nations do the same, a senior member of parliament has said

Slovakia has a right to seek repayment for the aid it has provided to Ukraine if Western nations like the US, Germany, and France take similar steps, a top Slovak MP has stated.

Andrej Danko, chairman of the Slovak National Party and a key figure in the ruling coalition, opined in a Facebook video on Monday that Bratislava has the right to demand repayment of its €3.5 billion ($3.8 billion) contribution.

Reflecting on reports that Washington is negotiating a deal in which Ukraine could hand over 50% of its critical minerals as compensation for US aid, Danko questioned what the EU would receive in return for its assistance.

The proposed agreement, reportedly granting the US extensive rights to Ukraine’s natural resources, seeks to offset what Washington claims is $500 billion in military and economic aid to Kiev.

“And I will ask about Slovakia,” Danko stated. “How will Slovakia get a return the €3.5 billion we sent there?” he questioned, stressing that the sum represents a significant amount of money for the EU nation.

“And I want to say that if the Germans, the French and Americans ask for their money back, Slovakia cannot remain silent,” the politician stated.

On Monday, European Commission PresidentUrsula von der Leyen arrived in Kievto mark the three-year anniversary of the Ukraine conflict, unveiling a €3.5 billion package of EU financial assistanceto inject additional liquidity into the nation’s strained budget. The sum is an advance payment from the EU’s larger €50-billion ($54 billion) assistance fund set up in early 2024.

Separately, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on Monday expressed optimism that the bloc’s leaders would quickly approve new military funding for Kiev. Her proposal to extend arms deliveries into 2025 has faced resistance from some member states.

Italy, Portugal, and Spain have openly opposed the plan, while France and Germany remain undecided, according to Politico. The proposed package, worth €10 billion, is set for discussion at the March 6 EU summit and includes weapons, ammunition, air defense systems, and expanded military training for Ukrainian forces.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has previously criticized the EU’s approach, arguing thatBrussels has effectively “banned” the word ‘peace’ from discussions about Ukraine.

Moscow has repeatedly warned against Western arms shipments to Ukraine, arguing that they only prolong the conflict without altering the outcome, while increasing the risk of a direct Russia-NATO clash. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Grushko has suggested that the EU could contribute to resolving the crisis by halting military and logistical support.

Insanity again and again from EU. No one will get money back from Ukraine because Zelensky and oligarchs have already sent it overseas. I want the US to cut ties with that shithole country, the place is cursed.

Veterans Affairs staffers denounce OPM email amid Elon Musk's DOGE push: 'People have no clue how this is impacting us' John L. Dorman 1/2

Tue, February 25, 2025 at 12:17 PM EST

(Now we get to see what our government employees really focus on, and it’s not their job. The sadistic got back in.)

• The latest OPM email telling federal workers to outline their accomplishments has roiled Washington.

• For Veterans Affairs employees who spoke to BI, the directive is one more DOGE-related frustration.

• About 2,400 staffers from the agency have been fired in recent weeks.

When Elon Musk announced last Saturday that federal workers would have to respond to an email detailing their work accomplishments from the past week or risk termination, it was the latest move in the White House DOGE Office's push to upend US government.

Veterans Affairs secretaryDoug Collins — a former Georgia congressman — said in a video last Thursday that health care for veterans would not suffer amid efficiency reforms, pushing back against what he said were "whoppers" about DOGE-related impacts on the department. Roughly 2,400 employees at the agency have been fired in recent weeks, including 1,400 on Monday.

Several staffers at the Department of Veterans Affairs told DOGE's efforts have created a high level of uncertainty and stress within a department tasked with providing critical services for the nation's veterans.

"So many people have no clue how this is impacting us," (the sadists at the VA moan) one VA social worker said. "We spend a lot of time managing our staff's emotions with each OPM email.I fear people will begin to resignand then our veterans are the ones who will suffer." (Let the staff leave it will help)

The social worker also said staffers are being "harassed" by the Office of Personnel Management. (See below what they consider harassment. Kek)

"It has been nonstop since January 20," the social worker said of the OPM's directives.

A VA nurse — who was instructed by a facility leader to respond to the OPM email — said it "lacked any context, explanation, or proper official formatting, making it indistinguishable from a scam email."The nurse noted that before President Donald Trump took office last month, official communications typically came from VA email accounts, whereas now they're coming from OPM accounts.(complaining about formatting emails? Crazy)

"The idea that a billionaire oligarch can decide over social media that employees must submit to vague, coercive demands — or lose their jobs — is both disturbing and unacceptable," the nurse added.

Another VA employee told BI that the latest OPM email is a "direct assault" on public servants and chided government leadersfor what he said was a lack of leadership in probing DOGE.

"Why are our elected officials allowing an unvetted agency such unchecked power, without any visible oversight or accountability?" the employee said. "The military recognizes the detrimental effects of prolonged high-stress operations. Federal workers have been living it for the past month."

Most of the VA workers spoke of how the OPM's actions are taking away from the focus on veterans.

Another VA nurse told BI that they feared important research trials would be in jeopardyafter Trump issued a federal hiring freeze. (RFKjr has to shut that down until they find out what they are giving veteranswhat have they been doing to the Veterans?)

"I love taking care of veterans but now worry each day whether I'll still have a job," the nurse said. "My heart also breaks for all the worried veterans who are now coming in wondering if they can still get care at the VA, if there will be anyone left to take care of them."WTF, act on a soap opera idiots

The Department of Veterans Affairs has roughly 400,000 employees, with 170 VA medical centers and nearly 1,200 outpatient centers across the country.

In January, following Trump's hiring freeze executive order, the department said there would be exemptions for essential roles.

Earlier in February, the Department of Veterans Affairs fired over 1,000 employees — which included probationary workers — and said the move would allow it to redirect $98 million in savings towards health care services for veterans.

After the dismissals, 36 Senate Democrats — including Senate Veterans Affairs Committee ranking member Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut — pressed the department to rehire every fired probationary employee.

However, on Monday, the Department of Veterans Affairs dismissed 1,400 additional employees whom they said occupied "non-mission critical" probationary roles. This comes as probationary employees across multiple federal agencies have become targets for terminations in recent weeks.

"These and other recent personnel decisions are extraordinarily difficult, but VA is focused on allocating its resources to help as many Veterans, families, caregivers, and survivors as possible," Collins said in a statement on Monday.

"These moves will not hurt VA health care, benefits or beneficiaries. In fact, Veterans are going to notice a change for the better," the secretary added.

The department said on Monday that the bulk of its 40,000 probationary employees weren't included in the most recent job dismissals because they occupied critical roles.

Still, leading Senate Democrats have continued to push back against the cuts at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

In a letter helmed by Blumenthal and signed by 35 of his Senate colleagues last Wednesday, they disputed Collins' assertions that the cuts wouldn't "negatively impact" care for veterans

Openings for new clinics have been delayed because VA cannot hire the necessary staff to open their doors. Service lines at VA hospitals and clinics have been halted," the lawmakers said at the time. "The list of real-life negative impacts of this Administration's directives is expansive and growing every day."

Blumenthal (not a Veteran)— who said he now regrets voting to confirm Collins in what was an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote in January— railed against the latest series of cuts at the department.

"Make no mistake, these actions are destroying the trust veterans have in VA and will do long-term damage to VA's ability to recruit and retain talented doctors, nurses, and others wanting to pursue a career serving veterans," he said in a statement on Monday. (Stop using “Make No Mistake” Blum, you make mistakes constantly. As a matter of fact your election was a mistake)

Business Insider reached out to the Department of Veterans Affairs and DOGE for comment.

ICC called on to investigate Biden

Top officials in the previous US administration were complicit in Israeli atrocities in Gaza, aUS-based non-profit has alleged

A US-based NGO has urged the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate former US President Joe Biden and two of his administration’s top officials, accusing them of acting as accessories to Israeli war crimes in Gaza.

Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN) lodged its request with ICC prosecutor Karim Khan last month, according to a Monday press release by the nonprofit. Last year, Khan secured arrest warrants for IsraeliPrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as three figures in the Hamas leadership, over alleged war crimes committed in the enclave.

Biden, former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austinmade “deliberate and purposeful decisions” to “provide military, political, and public support to facilitate Israeli crimes in Gaza,” the press release said.

DAWN’s 172-page communication to Khan laid out the legal reasoning, built with the help of ICC-registered lawyers and war crimes experts, according to the nonprofit.

“There are solid grounds to investigate Joe Biden, Antony Blinken and Lloyd Austin for complicity in Israel's crimes,” DAWN board member and war crimes lawyer Reed Brody said in the press release. “The bombs dropped on Palestinian hospitals, schools and homes are American bombs, the campaign of murder and persecution has been carried out with American support,” he added.

Israel’s military operation in Gaza has devastated the enclave, and killed more than 48,000 Palestinians, according to local Hamas-run health authorities. The EU, UN and the World Bank estimated that it would take more than $53 billion over the next decade to rebuild Gaza, in a joint statement last week.

Since his inauguration last month, US President Donald Trump has sanctioned the ICC and Khan over arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant, accusing the court of setting “a dangerous precedent” and putting Israeli and US personnel in danger of “harassment, abuse and possible arrest.”

Neither Israel nor the US are signatories to the Rome Statute, and therefore do not recognize the ICC’s jurisdiction.(so that means ICC cannot prosecute them, but they’ll have months of court cases, discussions and spend a lot of money. Damn)

Trump could be liable for obstruction of justice under the treaty, DAWN wrote in its press release. The US president’s proposal to displace Palestinians and take over Gaza “would also subject President Trump to individual liability for war crimes,” the nonprofit added.

In early February, Trump announced that “the US will take over the Gaza Strip,” level the destroyed buildings and develop it. Palestinians would be displaced to “neighboring countries of great wealth,” Trump suggested.

Met with outright rejection by Arab states, Trump has stressed he is not “forcing” the plan.

“I think that’s the plan that really works but I’m not forcing it. I’m just going to sit back and recommend it,” he told Fox News radio in an interview last week.
