Brooklyn Jail Apparently Overflowing With Fan Mail For Accused CEO Killer Beloved By Leftists

The New York man jailed on charges of killing a health insurance CEO in a terrorist attack is telling his fans not to send too many gifts due to prison rules.

Supporters have sent books, photos and other mail to the Brooklyn jail holding Luigi Mangione, who faces state and federal charges for the December murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Mangione’s legal team said in a thankful message on its website that the “volume” of materials may cause slow processing by the facility.

“Due to the overwhelming generosity of members of the public, numerous books have already been mailed to Luigi,” the website says in a “FAQ” page. “He is very appreciative, but kindly asks that people temporarily refrain from sending more books. The number of books he can possess at any given time is limited.”

“Luigi appreciates the photos that are sent and kindly asks that people send no more than five photos at a time,” Mangione’s team said.

Prosecutors say Mangione stalked Thompson, a father of two, before fatally shooting him from behind outside a Manhattan hotel. The bullets and shell casings he used allegedly had “deny,” “depose” and “delay” written on them to represent how America’s healthcare system treats patients.

Manhattan prosecutors charged Mangione in December with murder “in furtherance of terrorism” and weapon possession and forgery charges. The Department of Justice followed up days later by charging him with stalking, murder and using a weapon with a silencer for a violent crime.

“I am overwhelmed by – and grateful for – everyone who has written me to share their stories and express their support,” Mangione said in a statement on his website. “Powerfully, this support has transcended political, racial, and even class divisions, as mail has flooded [the Metropolitan Detention Center] from across the country, and around the globe.”

“While it is impossible for me to reply to most letters, please know that I read every one that I receive. Thank you again to everyone who took the time to write. I look forward to hearing more in the future,” Mangione said.

Mangione’s next court dates are in March for his federal case and June for his New York case, according to his website.

Trump wants Russia rare earths deal

Such cooperation would be “great” for both Washington and Moscow, the US president believes

US President Donald Trump has signaled openness to the idea of jointly developing Russia’s mineral deposits, a proposal put forward by President Vladimir Putin earlier this week following a meeting with top officials and rare-earth metal industry experts.

Moscow is prepared to collaborate with Washington on developing rare-earth mineral deposits, including those in Russia’s Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, Putin said on Monday.

When asked on Tuesday whether he and Putin had discussed the possibility of such a deal, Trump acknowledged his interest.

“I’d like to buy minerals on Russian land, too, if we can… They have very good rare earths, also, and oil and gas. Look, it’s a great thing,” Trump told journalists at the White House. “It’s great for Russia, too, because we could do deals there. They have very valuable land that isn’t utilized. So something like that could take place, yeah.”

Putin noted that Moscow would prioritize its own development of rare-earth minerals due to their strategic importance across multiple economic sectors. However, he added that Russia was open to cooperation with international partners, including Americans, should they express interest.

Trump’s administration has shown increasing interest in rare earth and other metals as part of the US president’s push to secure returns on American “investments” in the Ukraine conflict. Trump has been demanding the equivalent of up to $500 billion in natural resources as compensation for aid already provided to Kiev. After multiple delays, Kiev has reportedly agreed to the deal, with Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky expected to visit Washington on Friday to sign the agreement.

“I hear that he’s coming on Friday. Certainly, it’s okay with me if he’d like to sign it together with me, and I understand that’s a big deal, very big deal… the American taxpayer now is going to get their money back plus,” Trump said.

The rare earths deal Trump is pursuing with Ukraine “doesn’t concern” Moscow, Putin said in an interview with Rossiya 1 TV journalist Pavel Zarubin, noting that the actual value of Ukraine’s mineral deposits remains uncertain.

Before the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, the country held Europe’s largest titanium and lithium reserves. While these metals are not classified as rare-earth elements, they are crucial for the defense sector, as well as for battery and capacitor production. Ukraine’s rare-earth metal deposits also include beryllium, manganese, gallium, uranium, zirconium, graphite, apatite, fluorite, and nickel.

In 2023, Forbes Ukraine estimated that the country’s mineral resources were worth approximately $14.8 trillion, amounting to 111 billion metric tons, with coal and iron ore making up the majority. However, the publication noted that over 70% of these resources are located in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, which declared independence from Ukraine in 2014 following the Western-backed Maidan coup in Kiev. These territories came under Russian control after referendums in 2022, when the regions voted to join Russia.

US ‘not providing’ military assistance to Ukraine – Trump

The US president however noted that the flow of weapons to Kiev could be sustained “for a while, until we have a deal with Russia”

President Donald Trump has claimed that Washington is currently not providing any new military assistance to Kiev, insisting that American taxpayers should first recover their already invested money, while the EU and NATO states should take on greater responsibility for Ukraine’s security.

Trump has been demanding access to Ukraine’s natural resources as compensation for the aid provided to Kiev throughout its conflict with Russia. Reports suggest that after multiple delays Kiev has agreed, and the document could be signed as early as Friday.

When asked what Kiev would get in return, Trump stated on Tuesday that Ukraine had already received “$350 billion in lots of equipment, military equipment, and the right to fight on, and originally the right to fight.”

“Look… without the United States and its money and its military equipment, this war would have been over in a very short period of time,” Trump told journalists at the White House. “Without American equipment, this war would have ended quickly – American money too, a lot of money.”

When questioned about the sustainability of continued weapons and ammunition deliveries to Ukraine, Trump said shipments could “go forward for a while, maybe until we have a deal with Russia.”

“Look, we need to have a deal with Russia, otherwise it’s gonna continue. It could go on for a while, or it could get settled quickly. I spoke with President Putin, and I think he wants to settle it,” Trump stated.

“I just told you. Right now, we are not providing anything,” Trump claimed, when pressed on whether the US would send Kiev additional air defenses. When asked if Washington would resume military support in the future, he reiterated that “Europe will be largely responsible for that.”

Kiev has disputed Trump’s estimate of $350 billion, insisting that Washington has actually provided less than $100 billion in aid. Since February 2022, the US Congress has appropriated $183 billion for Ukraine, including more than $66 billion in direct security assistance, according to the Pentagon and Ukraine Oversight, the interagency group responsible for presenting reports to Congress.

The Trump administration has repeatedly signaled its intent to minimize US involvement once a potential truce is reached, instead aiming to transfer the financial and logistical burden of supporting Kiev to regional allies.

Israel launches airstrikes to ‘demilitarize’ Syria

The Israeli defense minister has threatened to meet the new “Syrian regime forces” with fire

Israeli warplanes have conducted airstrikes on military targets in southern Syria, including areas near Damascus and the Deraa province, following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s demand for the complete demilitarization of the region.

On Tuesday night, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) struck several Syrian “command centers” and “sites containing weapons” in the town of Kiswah, south of Damascus, and in the southern province of Deraa, arguing that the presence of “military forces and assets in the southern part of Syria poses a threat to the citizens of Israel.”

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz’s spokesperson confirmed that the Israeli Air Force was “attacking strongly in southern Syria as part of the new policy we have defined to pacify southern Syria.”

“Any attempt by the Syrian regime forces and the country’s terrorist organizations to establish themselves in the security zone in southern Syria will be met with fire,” Katz added.

The Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) seized power in Damascus in December after more than a decade of fighting against President Bashar Assad. The IDF used the opportunity to advance beyond its previous positions in the Golan Heights and seize the strategic Mount Hermon.

Netanyahu declared on Sunday that Israel would not allow HTS or the new Syrian army being formed to “enter the area south of Damascus.”

“We demand the complete demilitarization of southern Syria in the provinces of Quneitra, Deraa, and Suweida from the forces of the new regime,” the Israeli prime minister stated in a speech to military cadets. “Likewise, we will not tolerate any threat to the Druze community in southern Syria.”

Israel first gained control of the Golan Heights in 1967 after defeating Syria and Egypt in the Six-Day War. Damascus failed to retake the strategic region in 1973. West Jerusalem officially annexed the territory in 1981, though this move has not been internationally recognized. A buffer zone between Israeli-controlled territory and Syria has long been manned by the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).

As HTS seized control of Damascus, the IDF moved into the buffer zone and, in some instances, advanced deeper into Syrian territory. Netanyahu visited the IDF troops on Mount Hermon in mid-December, calling it “an exciting historical moment.”

Around 20,000 Jewish settlers currently live in the Golan Heights, which is also home to a similar number of Syrian Druze. Approximately 30 Jewish settlements in the area are considered illegal under international law. Washington officially recognized the Golan Heights as being under Israeli sovereignty in 2019 under President Donald Trump.

The new Syrian government has repeatedly demanded the withdrawal of Israeli troops and urged the deployment of UN forces in the buffer zone – most recently on Tuesday, just hours before Israel launched its air raids.
