Top US official suggests Zelensky may need to go

National Security Advisor Mike Waltz says Washington wants to see a leader in Kiev who can “deal with the Russians and end this war”

Washington is unsure whether Vladimir Zelensky is the right man to lead Ukraine at this juncture, the US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz has told CNN. The official argued that Friday’s tumultuous spat between the Ukrainian leader, President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance indicated that Zelensky may not be ready to talk peace.

When asked by Dana Bash on Sunday to share his view of Zelensky, Waltz said that “it’s unclear whether President Zelensky, particularly after what we saw on Friday, is ready to transition Ukraine to an end to this war, and to negotiate and have to compromise.” He noted that it is President Trump’s conviction that both Kiev and Moscow would have to make concessions in order to stop the bloodshed.

According to the national security advisor, during the US president’s meeting with Zelensky on Friday, “it did not appear to us that [he] was ready to go to peace.”

When pressed by a CNN presenter as to whether the White House wanted Zelensky to step down, Waltz clarified that “we need a leader that can deal with us, eventually deal with the Russians, and end this war.”

The official added that “if it becomes apparent that President Zelensky’s either personal motivations or political motivations are divergent from ending the fighting in his country, then I think we have a real issue on our hands.”

n an interview with Breitbart Radio on Saturday, Waltz compared Zelensky to an “ex-girlfriend that wants to argue everything that you said nine years ago, rather than moving the relationship forward.”

Speaking with ABC news on Sunday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that he had not “had any contact with [Zelesnky] since Friday.” The diplomat stressed that the Trump administration’s goal is to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table, with the US head of state being the “only person on Earth who has any chance whatsoever” of accomplishing this.

“Don’t do anything to disrupt that, and that’s what Zelensky did unfortunately – he found every opportunity to try to Ukraine-splain on every issue,” Rubio stated, recounting Friday’s shouting match at the White House.

Commenting on Zelensky’s demeanor at the White House on Friday, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told Fox News later that day that his altercation with Trump and Vance represented a “missed opportunity.” Addressing the Ukrainian people, the lawmaker added, “I don’t know if Zelensky can ever get you to where you want to go with the United States. Either he dramatically changes or you need to get somebody new.”

The senator, who hailed Zelensky as the “ally I’ve been hoping for all my life” during the Munich Security Conference earlier this month, wrote in a post on X on Saturday that the Ukrainian leader’s “behavior was beyond unacceptable and [his] lectures are wearing thin.” Graham also lauded President Trump for standing up to him in defense of American interests.

Zelensky was expected to finalize an agreement granting the US rights to his country’s natural resources on Friday. However, the meeting ended up in a heated exchange, with the Ukrainian leader’s stay at the White House cut short and the accord left unsigned.

During the encounter, the US president accused his visitor of failure to show gratitude, insisting that Kiev does not “have the cards,” and would have lost to Russia if not for generous US assistance, with Vance making similar charges.

Commenting on the altercation on his Truth Social platform, Trump concluded that the Ukrainian leader had demonstrated that he “is not ready for peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations.”

US approves Moscow’s new envoy

Aleksandr Darchiev will take over as Russia’s ambassador to the US following key negotiations

The United States has approved Aleksandr Darchiev as Moscow’s new ambassador to Washington, Russia’s Foreign Ministry has announced, after bilateral talks in Türkiye this week.

Darchiev, a senior diplomat with more than 30 years of experience, currently heads the Foreign Ministry’s North Atlantic Department. He previously served as Russia’s ambassador to Canada from 2014 to 2021 and has held several high-ranking positions within the ministry, including deputy director of the North America Department and counselor at the Russian embassy in Washington.

His appointment follows diplomatic discussions in Istanbul on Thursday, where Russian and US officials addressed issues affecting their embassies. The two nations are working to mend strained relations that deteriorated under the previous administration of US President Joe Biden.

Talks focused on resuming regular operations at the US embassy in Moscow and the Russian embassy in Washington, with both sides identifying “concrete initial steps,” according to the US State Department.

In a statement on Friday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry emphasized that normalization should be a reciprocal process. Both countries have imposed various restrictions on each other in recent years, including reducing diplomatic staff, limiting banking access, and seizing diplomatic properties. Moscow maintains its measures are in direct response to actions taken by Washington.

Darchiev represented Russia at the talks, while the US delegation was led by Sonata Coulter, deputy assistant secretary of state for Eurasian affairs. The negotiations followed an earlier round of discussions on February 18 in Riyadh, where both sides agreed to restore staffing levels at their respective diplomatic missions.

Darchiev’s predecessor, Anatoly Antonov, served as Russia’s ambassador to the US for seven years before returning to Moscow in October 2024.

Zelensky looks unwell – Kremlin

Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has commented on the Ukrainian leader’s health prior to his White House dispute with Trump and Vance

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky appears visibly unwell, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said. He made the remarks this week, days before Zelensky’s heated confrontation with US President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.

“He doesn't look very good visually, but you should ask him,” Peskov said in an interview with Rossiya 1 TV journalist Pavel Zarubin published on Saturday, answering whether he thought Zelensky felt cornered.

Zelensky’s visit to the White House on Friday, intended to finalize a minerals agreement, devolved into a heated dispute. The discussion deteriorated when he insisted that Trump support Kiev rather than play a neutral arbiter in an attempt to mediate a deal with Moscow. In response, Trump and Vance accused Zelensky of “gambling with World War III” and a reluctance to make peace with Russia, labeling him disrespectful and ungrateful for the substantial military aid provided by Washington.

The visit concluded abruptly without signing the agreement, after Zelensky demanded security guarantees and greater involvement in the conflict from the Trump administration.

During the meeting, Zelensky’s preference for informal attire also attracted media attention. When a journalist inquired if the Ukrainian president owned a formal suit, Zelensky said yes, adding that he would “wear something more appropriate” at the next meeting.

Following the incident, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described Zelensky’s US trip as “a diplomatic and political failure” for Kiev. She asserted that with his “outrageously boorish behavior” at the White House, Zelensky confirmed himself “an irresponsible instigator of a major war” and “a most dangerous threat to the international community.”

Zakharova reiterated Moscow’s stance that lasting peace can only be achieved “when the root causes of the conflict are fully eliminated.”

The cancellation of the minerals deal and Zelensky’s premature departure from the White House have raised concerns about future US support for Ukraine. According to The Washington Post, the Trump administration may reconsider its military assistance to Kiev.

However, European leaders have expressed support. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas reaffirmed their solidarity with Ukraine, emphasizing the need for peace based on Ukrainian sovereignty. Conversely, Russian officials, including former President Dmitry Medvedev, mocked Zelensky, suggesting that Washington halt military aid.

President Trump Drops a Succinct Truth Bomb After Returning to the White House

President Donald J. Trump spent the weekend in Mar-A-Lago for an all-too-brief break before another busy week. When he returned, he hopped on Truth Social to remind the world that his “mean Tweets” are still real and they’re spectacular.

He didn’t go after anyone in particular. He simply reminded Americans about our priorities.

We should spend less time worrying about Putin, and more time worrying about migrant rape gangs, drug lords, murderers, and people from mental institutions entering our Country – So that we don’t end up like Europe!

Europe is, of course, obsessed with Ukraine and Russia. Their governments will obsess over anything that takes attention away from the invasion they’re allowing at their borders and in their streets.

American media wants the same obsession here, but thoughts of Volodymyr Zelensky will fade quickly this week. We’ll be back to Making America Great Again by this time tomorrow.

This was one of many posts Sunday night from the President. While some (few) watch the Academy Awards, they’d probably do better to hear what the President is saying instead.

Ukrainian attack on TurkStream threatens Hungary’s sovereignty – FM

Peter Szijjarto has condemned the latest attempted drone strike on the pipeline that delivers Russian gas to European countries

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has condemned a recent drone attack on a compressor station of the TurkStream gas pipeline, labeling it an assault on his nation’s sovereignty due to the conduit’s critical role in its energy security.

Szijjarto’s comments came on Saturday after the Russian military reported thwarting a Ukrainian drone attack on the Russkaya compressor station on Friday night. This station is a critical facility for the TurkStream, also known as Turkish Stream, pipeline in Russia’s Krasnodar Region, serving as the point of exit on Russian soil for gas deliveries. The Defense Ministry stated that three drones were neutralized by air defense systems, preventing any damage to the station’s operations.

“The Turkish Stream pipeline is the guarantee of Hungary’s natural gas supply security; therefore, any potential disruption would seriously jeopardize our energy security,” Szijjarto wrote on Facebook. “Energy security is a matter of sovereignty, and therefore this type of attack should be considered an attack on sovereignty.”

The pipeline, which has been operational since January 2020, delivers Russian natural gas to Turkish customers and several European countries, including Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Greece.

The Hungarian minister also called on the European Commission to clarify its stance on the matter, reminding it of its recent assurance that Ukraine would not target EU-bound infrastructure.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov informed Szijjarto about the attempted attack during a phone conversation initiated by Hungary, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. He explained the incident and its implications for the pipeline’s security.

The incident is not the first involving the facility. Back in January, Ukrainian forces attempted to attack it with nine kamikaze drones, according to the Russian military. All of the UAVs were intercepted, but debris from the explosions caused minor damage to the station.

Commenting on the incident at the time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused Ukraine of engaging in acts of “energy terrorism.”

EU’s Kallas calls for ‘new leader of free world’

The bloc’s top diplomat has voiced support for Ukraine after Vladimir Zelensky’s scandalous White House visit

The European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, has suggested that the United States can no longer act as the “leader of the free world,” after President Donald Trump publicly scolded Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky for his disrespect and ingratitude toward the American people.

The meeting between Zelensky, Trump, and Vice President J.D. Vance on Friday descended into an openly hostile exchange. Zelensky was asked to leave the White House early without signing an agreement that would have granted the US rights to Ukraine’s natural resources, or holding a joint press conference.

In response to the scandal, Kallas, the EU’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy and former Estonian prime minister, took to X to express her support for Zelensky, writing, “We stand by Ukraine.”

“We will step up our support to Ukraine so that they can continue to fight back the agressor [sic],” Kallas wrote. “Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader. It’s up to us, Europeans, to take this challenge.”

Kallas previously accused Trump of adopting “Russian narratives and talking points” about the Ukraine conflict, and expressed concern over what she described as Washington’s shift away from its longtime European allies.

She also pushed back against criticisms of democracy in the EU made by Vance at the Munich Security Conference – remarks that Trump praised as “brilliant.”

“I refuse to accept that criticism, because it’s just simply not true,” Kallas said.

In recent weeks, Trump has made several critical statements about Ukraine’s leadership, describing Zelensky as a “dictator without elections” and suggesting that Kiev bears

“I have empowered you to be a tough guy, and I do not think you would be a tough guy without the US,” Trump told Zelensky on Friday. “But you are not acting at all thankful, and that is not a nice thing… What you are doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country.”

Russia proposes resuming direct flights with US

Air travel between the two countries was suspended following escalation of the Ukraine conflict

Moscow has proposed restoring direct air travel with the US as part of ongoing efforts to revive bilateral relations, according to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday following a new round of talks in Türkiye.

The US suspended flights and closed its airspace to Russian airlines in 2022, along with other Western nations, in response to the escalation of the Ukraine conflict. Since then, travelers have relied on connecting flights through hubs such as Istanbul and Dubai.

In response, Moscow banned flights from 36 ‘unfriendly nations’, including EU member states and Canada. This forced Western airlines to reroute flights, leading to higher fuel consumption and increased costs. Some European carriers have since criticized the EU’s sanctions on Moscow, citing “unfair” competition from Chinese airlines, which continue to freely cross Russian airspace.

According to the ministry, the Russian proposal to resume flights was made during a meeting with the US delegations in Istanbul on Thursday. The talks, which were aimed at mending the diplomatic rift that deepened under the previous administration, focused on reinstating regular operations at diplomatic missions and ensuring favorable conditions for their functioning.

Moscow described the Istanbul talks as “substantive,” with both sides agreeing to continue dialogue.

“Specifically, the US was invited to consider the possibility of restoring direct air services,” the Russian ministry stated.

Some experts, however, are skeptical about the possibility of an immediate resumption of direct flights between Russia and the US, pointing out that European airspace remains closed to Russian airlines, making direct routes challenging.

The meeting in Türkiye follows high-level talks in Saudi Arabia and a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump earlier in February. Trump has since signaled that Washington could lift the sanctions against Russia “at some point” as part of broader peace negotiations to resolve the Ukraine conflict.

Zelensky ‘traitor’ to Jews – Lavrov

The Russian foreign minister has accused the Ukrainian leader of abandoning his earlier peace platform in favor of hardline nationalism

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelesnky, who is ethnically Jewish, is a traitor to his own people for siding with the far-right, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated, suggesting that Kiev’s Western backers pushed him in that direction.

Following the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin described the “denazification” of the neighboring country as one of the goals of Moscow’s military action.

Speaking to Russian media on Sunday, Lavrov expressed skepticism regarding plans voiced by several European NATO member states to deploy “peacekeepers” to Ukraine. The diplomat claimed that Western powers would in reality instead be “inciting the Kiev regime to [go to] war against us.” He cited the failed Minsk agreements, which were signed in 2014 and 2015, and were supposed to stop the fighting between Ukraine and the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. Germany and France were the guarantors of the accords but later publicly admitted that they had only signed them to buy Kiev time to build up its military.

According to Lavrov, Western powers had “first brought [former President Pyotr] Poroshenko to power on their bayonets, and then Zelensky.” The official suggested that the same Western enablers had been the driving force behind Zelensky’s abrupt abandonment of the pro-peace platform he campaigned on in 2019.

“Zelensky did a 180 from a person who came to power on slogans of peace… and in half a year turned into a pure Nazi, and as Russian President Vladimir Putin rightly said – a traitor to the Jewish people,” Lavrov said.

Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in June 2023, Putin stated that his friends in the Jewish community “say that Zelensky is not a Jew, he is a disgrace to the Jewish people.” He pointed to the fact that the current Ukrainian authorities openly celebrate Nazi figures, most notably Stepan Bandera, a Ukrainian nationalist who collaborated with the Third Reich during World War II.

Later that year, the Russian president alleged that “Western handlers placed at the head of modern Ukraine an ethnic Jew… [to cover up] the anti-human basis of the current Ukrainian state.”

“That makes the entire situation so highly disgusting,” Putin added, noting that the Nazis exterminated some 1.5 million Jews in Ukraine during World War II.

Vance Family Moved to ‘Undisclosed Location’ After Pro-Ukrainian Protesters Disrupt Ski Trip

Vice President JD Vance and his family were moved to an “undisclosed location” after they were met with pro-Ukrainian protesters outside of a ski resort in Vermont.

Protesters could be seen holding signs at Sugarbush Ski Resort that read “Vance is a traitor. Go ski in Russia,” and “JD Vance is Nazi scum,” according to a post on X from Nana Sajaia, an associate producer with Fox News.

Other posts on social media showed protesters holding signs that read, “Trump serves Putin,” and “Stand with Ukraine.”

The Vance family, which was reported as having “skied on one side of a mountain” in order to avoid the crowd of protesters, also ended up being “moved to an undisclosed location after seeing the ruckus” at the ski resort, according to Fox News.

One skier told the outlet that the protesters were “f***ing morons.”

The protest at the ski resort comes a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was kicked out of the White House after making several disrespectful remarks during a meeting with President Donald Trump, Secretary Marco Rubio, and Vance in the Oval Office.

During the meeting, Vance criticized Zelensky for acting “disrespectful,” and told him that he “should be thanking the president for trying to bring an end” to the war with Russia.

“With respect, I think it’s disrespectful for you to come into the Oval Office to try to litigate this in front of the American media,” Vance said. “Right now you guys are going around and forcing conscripts to the front lines because you have manpower problems. You should be thanking the president for trying to bring an end to this conflict.”

During the meeting, when Zelensky attempted to imply that Ukraine had “been alone” in the war against Russia, Trump pointed out that the United States has given Ukraine monetary and military aid.

“You haven’t been alone,” Trump told Zelensky. “We gave you, through [our] stupid president, $350 billion. We gave you military equipment … If you didn’t have our military equipment, this war would’ve been over in two weeks.”

After the meeting, the White House confirmed that Zelensky had left without signing the minerals deal. Trump also issued a statement on Truth Social that Zelensky was “not ready for Peace if America is involved,” and added that Zelensky could “come back when he is ready for Peace.”

“We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today,” Trump said. “Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure. It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations. I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace.”

‘Absolute Idiocy’ — Zelensky Blasted by Ukrainian Lawmaker for ‘Arguing’ With President Trump in Front of the World

A prominent Ukrainian lawmaker declared it was “absolute idiocy” for President Volodymyr Zelensky to openly argue with U.S. President Donald Trump in front of the world during their Oval Office meeting on Friday.

Oleksiy Goncharenko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada parliament in Kyiv, lamented that Ukraine’s relationship with President Trump came to an “end” on Friday after a heated White House meeting in which President Zelensky was accused of being “disrespectful” to the U.S. leader and the American people.

Goncharenko wrote on Facebook that it was “absolute idiocy to start ARGUING with the President of the United States in front of the cameras,” adding that “it can be done and probably should be done, but not in front of cameras.”

The Ukrainian MP, who sits with the European Solidarity bloc of former Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko in the parliament, went on to warn that Zelensky’s behaviour on Friday could have “very bad consequences” for Ukraine.

Goncharenko said that such consequences could include a potential shut down of Elon Musk’s Starlink internet access to the Ukrainian armed forces to even an end of Washington sharing intelligence with Kyiv, both of which have been critical for Ukraine in its war with Russia.

The Ukrainian lawmaker added, “Zelensky has put millions of people at risk, and it’s madness.”

Goncharenko also appeared to agree with President Trump’s conclusion that Zelensky was not prepared for peace, writing: “This time, it’s not only Putin’s choice. He wants a war it’s totally obvious. But on February 28, this choice – the choice of war – was also made by the Ukrainian leader. Zelensky. It’s his common choice with Putin.”

The fallout from Zelensky’s disastrous meeting with President Trump on Friday has not been contained to the political sphere, with critiques also reportedly coming from the Ukrainian military. Time magazine has cited an unnamed colonel in the Ukrainian armed forces in Kyiv who, upon seeing the news of the meeting, said: “Well done… He pushed back, you have to respect that… But now we’re f—ed.”

While European leaders were quick to rush to the Ukrainian leader’s defence after the Oval Office meeting, growing calls have emerged for Zelensky to repair his relationship with President Trump.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said on Saturday: “It is important that President Zelensky finds a way to restore his relationship with the American President and with the senior American leadership team.”

Polish Defence Secretary Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz shared a similar sentiment, arguing that it will be impossible to end the war without U.S. support and thus called for Zelensky to resume talks with the White House.

“I believe that there must be fewer emotions, fewer emotional evaluations and more rational attitudes,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said, adding, “What is needed now is the return to US-Ukrainian talks.”

Zelensky’s position at the helm of the Ukrainian government, which was artificially extended after he cancelled elections last year under martial law, was called into question on Friday by key Republican Senator Lindsay Graham, who has long been one of Zelensky’s chief defenders in Washington.

“What I saw in the Oval Office was disrespectful… I don’t know if we can ever do business with Zelenskyy again…He either needs to resign and send somebody over that we can do business with, or he needs to change,” the South Carolina senator said.

For his part, President Zelensky has refused to apologise to President Trump, saying in a Friday evening Fox News interview “I think we have to be very open and very honest, and I’m not sure that we did something bad.”

After the meeting broke down and President Trump ejected Zelensky from the White House, the Ukrainian leader left Washington early—without signing the minerals agreement for which the U.S. visit was intended—to attend a summit of European leaders in London.

WATCH: Rangers Fans Boo Canadian Anthem as Toronto Maple Leafs Visit Madison Square Garden

The 4 Nations Face-Off is over, but the anthem booing goes on.

New York Rangers fans booed the singing of O Canada before their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night.

The booing trend began on February 1 when Ottawa fans booed the U.S. anthem before their game against the Minnesota Wild. One night after Canadian hockey fans booed the U.S., Canadian basketball fans picked up the trend by booing the Los Angeles Clippers before their game against the Toronto Raptors.

The anthem wars certainly didn’t cool off during the 4 Nations Face-Off when the U.S. and Canada faced each other twice. One particularly raucous night in Montreal saw Team USA and Canada drop the gloves and fight three times in the first nine seconds after a thorough booing of the U.S. anthem.

The boos cam eon the same day that President Trump signed executive orders placing tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico. He also had joked on social media about Canada becoming the “51st state.”

The Rangers lost to the Maple Leafs, 3-2.
