Nikki Haley Pushes Multiculturalism: ‘Fabric of America’ Is ‘Multiple Cultures, Multiple Populations’
24 Jul 2018
United Nations (U.N.) Ambassador Nikki Haley pushed the idea of a multicultural America during a visit to India.
While Haley visited India a few weeks ago, she pushed the notion that America was founded as a “nation of immigrants” with “multiple cultures” and “multiple populations,” calling the multicultural worldview the “fabric of America.”
Haley was asked about immigration around the world, to which she responded:
On immigration, I think what we’re seeing around the world is major migration issues due to conflict. And we’re seeing that everywhere. When I was in Jordan and Turkey, we were looking at what was happening in Syria and how Jordan and Turkey were feeling the pain of that. You see that in Europe. The United States is not exempt from that. We see the migration that’s happening
The one thing about America and what I have always loved is America is a country of immigrants. It’s the fabric of America to have multiple cultures. Multiple populations. Multiple heritages that do come into America that make it what it is. [Emphasis added]
But we believe in the rule of law. And we believe in legal immigration. My parents came to America. They put in the time. They put in the price. They went there legally. We can’t start to have illegal immigration come in at harsh levels. Especially now during this time when terrorism is starting to be more … we’re starting to see it more predominately around. So all you’re seeing the United States do at this point is find a way to make sure we know exactly who is coming into our country and that we are properly able to secure the people of the United States by knowing who is coming into the country.
Haley’s comments are vastly out of step with President Trump’s worldview, where the populist president has routinely spoken of the need for merit-based, reduced immigration levels to the U.S. where assimilation is more effectively implemented.
Most notably, Haley used the 2016 Republican response to then President Obama’s State of the Union Address to attack Trump on the issue immigration, where he was calling for a border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
“Immigrants have been coming to our shores for generations to live the dream that is America…Today, we live in a time of threats like few others in recent memory,” Haley said, as Breitbart News noted at the time. “During anxious times, it can be tempting to follow the siren call of the angriest voices. We must resist that temptation. No one who is willing to work hard, abide by our laws, and love our traditions should ever feel unwelcome in this country.”
Months ago, Breitbart News revealed how Haley’s Deputy Ambassador Jon Lerner is closely tied to the failed “Never Trump” movement, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s open borders organization, and the pro-mass immigration billionaire Koch Brothers.
In 2008, Michele Bachmann — a staunch defender of Trump and his “America First” agenda — spoke about the burden that multiculturalism has on American society and its citizens.
“This whole philosophical idea of multicultural diversity, which on the face, sounds wonderful. Let’s appreciate and value everyone’s cultures,” Bachmann said in 2008. “But, guess what, not all cultures are equal. Not all values are equal.”
Last year, during an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, Bachmann said the U.S. needed to halt all immigration to the country to give time for the current inflow of immigrants to assimilate.
“We don’t have a grip on immigration,” Bachmann said. “We need to hit the pause button like Calvin Coolidge did for 50 years. Hit the pause button and give people time to assimilate; learn the English language; learn our laws and just settle down and assimilate.”
Currently, the U.S. admits more than 1.5 million legal and illegal immigrants every year. In 2016, the legal and illegal immigrant population reached a record high of 44 million. By 2023, the legal and illegal immigrant population is expected to make up nearly 15 percent of the entire U.S. population if current immigration levels continue.
