The Republican Rip Off
This week, House Republicans passed a budget which steals taxpayer dollars from Medicaid to give tax breaks to their billionaire donors and big corporations. The last time the Republicans had a majority in the House and Senate, and President Trump was in the White House, they passed a tax cut for the rich that gave eighty-three percent of the benefits to the top one percent in our country, and added $2 trillion to the national debt. This year, they are doubling down: $4 trillion to the national debt by steering taxpayer dollars from Medicaid to give additional tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations.
By voting for this cruel bill, House Republicans betray hardworking Americans by raising costs for all those already struggling to make ends meet. President Trump said he was going to reduce the cost of living — he didn't. Reduce inflation — he didn't. While President Trump and Congressional Republicans are choosing to protect billionaires, we are led and unified by Hakeem Jeffries. We are united in our commitment to work for working families. This week, I joined House Democratic Leaders in supporting an amicus brief defending American consumers and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). President Trump has caused significant and irreparable harm on consumers across the country. In seeking to “shut down” CFPB, President Trump wants to eliminate the agency that protects Americans from unfair, deceptive, and abusive corporate practices, giving even more power to his corrupt billionaire friends serving as top advisors. The CFPB, is our nation’s “consumer watchdog agency,” and as the only federal agency dedicated solely to protecting American consumers in the financial marketplace, President Trump’s actions will cost hardworking families billions.
