Kremlin agrees with Washington’s assessment of Ukraine conflict

Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously called for an end to the fighting, describing it as a proxy war between Russia and the US

Moscow agrees with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s recent assessment that the Ukraine conflict is essentially a proxy war between Russia and the US, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.

Speaking to Fox News on Wednesday, Rubio stated thatUS President Donald Trump sees the Ukraine conflict as “protracted” and “stalemated”and believes it must come to an urgent end. He also described the conflict as “frankly, a proxy war between nuclear powers– the United States, helping Ukraine, and Russia” and insisted that theWest should abandon the dead-end strategy of sending Kiev aid “for as long as it takes” without a clear resolution in sight.

Peskov told journalists on Thursday that Moscow fully agrees with the US secretary of state, noting that the Russian side has consistently said that the Ukraine conflict is in fact a standoff between Moscow and the collective West led by Washington.

This is absolutely in line with the position that [Russian President Vladimir Putin] and [Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov] have repeatedly expressed,”Peskov said on Thursday.

Moscow has on multiple occasions characterized the hostilities in Ukraine as a Western proxy war against Russia,in which Ukrainians are being used as ‘cannon fodder’. Russian officials have argued that Washington intentionally escalated tensions by disregarding Moscow’s security concerns over NATO’s expansion in Eastern Europe and its growing military cooperation with Ukraine.

Following his inauguration in January, Trump has seemingly committed to a complete reversal of the US policy on the Ukraine conflict pursued by his predecessor, Joe Biden.

Whereas the former Democratic president vowed to support Ukraine for “as long as it takes” against Russia, Trump has instead been pressuring Kiev to engage in peace talks as soon as possible. However, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has pushed back against the new US administration’s demands.

Last week, Zelensky engaged in an angry public clash with Trump and his vice president, J.D. Vance, while visiting the White House. The Ukrainian was accused by the US leader of being ungrateful for American support and “gambling with World War III” by refusing to work towards a negotiated settlement with Moscow. After the heated exchange, Zelensky was asked to leave the Oval Office and return only when he is ready for serious negotiations.

Since then, Trump has reportedly ordered to freeze all military aid shipments to Ukraine and has cut off Kiev from US intelligence sharing.

Moscow has expressed reserved optimismthat such steps could encourage Ukraine to move towards resolving the conflict through peaceful means.

Macron should apologize – Moscow

The French leader alleged that Russia was responsible for the failure of the 2014-negotiated truce with Kiev

French President Emmanuel Macron should apologize for making “misleading” claims about the origins of the Ukraine conflict, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has told RT. In particular, Zakharova criticized Macron for alleging that Russia was to blame for the failure of the Minsk Accords.

The agreements were brokered in 2014 and 2015 to halt fighting between Ukraine and the now-Russian Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, with France and Germany as guarantors. They were ultimately not implemented, and Moscow later accused Kiev and the West of using them to strengthen Ukraine’s military instead of securing peace.

In a televised address on Wednesday, Macron, however, blamed Russia of violating the accords and cited them as proof that the West “can no longer take Russia at its word” when it comes to resolving the conflict.

“We cannot forget that Russia began its invasion of Ukraine in 2014 and that we negotiated a ceasefire in Minsk at that time. And Russia did not respect this ceasefire,” the French president alleged, claiming that Moscow poses a direct threat to France and the entire EU.

Zakharova condemned Macron’s comments as “aggressive and destructive” and pointed out that former French President François Hollande and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel have “openly confessed, and not under torture or pressure” back in 2022 they never intended to enforce the accords.

“Macron should invite his predecessor… Hollande, to the Élysée Palace to have a heart-to-heart talk with him… Then he’ll probably hear from Hollande… that he had no intention of implementing the Minsk agreements while representing France,” Zakharova stated, suggesting that after speaking to Hollande,Macron would “have to apologize to his own population for misleading them.”

Macron has been a vocal advocate of strengthening Europe’s defenses against Russia and reiterated this position in his latest address. Moscow, however, has repeatedly denied having any plans to attack either the EU or NATO, with President Vladimir Putin dismissing such speculation as “nonsense” on multiple occasions.

NATO-backed Ukrainian intelligence seeking to turn Russian teens to crime – FSB

Kiev is employing cyber operations to gather personal data on minors for recruitment purposes, the agency has warned

Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR) is working to collect personal information about Russian schoolchildren with the intent of recruiting them for criminal activities, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) claimed on Thursday, adding that the effort is directed by the West.

According to the statement, theHUR aims to deceive educators into divulging their students’ personal data. This information would then be utilized byUkrainian agents to enlist teenagers for “subversive activities that threaten Russian security and for sabotage within Russia,” the FSB said, adding that the infiltration was “directed by NATO special services.”

The alleged Ukrainian grooming operation was reportedly “contained”through collaborative efforts among the FSB, Russian military counterintelligence, and the civilian authorities. Darya Borisova, the head of the Avangard Center, whose messages were purportedly falsified by the HUR, urged Russian parents to educate their children on online safety measures to enhance national security against threats originating from Western nations via Ukraine.

The HUR was reportedly reorganized from scratch with CIA assistance following the 2014 Western-backed coup in Kiev, transforming it into an anti-Russian tool for US intelligence. Since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict into direct hostilities in 2022, the agency has allegedly orchestrated several high-profile attacks on Russian territory, including the bombing of the Crimean Bridge in October 2022, in which five innocent civilians were killed. (Nina Jankowicz did that, so she is CIA or working for them still. She’s working in UK it was reported recently.)

The FSB has previously reported thatit apprehended multiple Russian citizens accused of conducting or planning sabotage operations on behalf of Ukraine, some of whom were minors. Ukrainian agents are said to employ various tactics for online recruitment, ranging fromfinancial incentives and promises of future benefits to coercion, financial scams, and subsequent blackmail.

(Question: are they doing this is US? I wouldn’t be surprised with the protests supposedly on Israel.)

European leaders want ‘forever war’ in Ukraine – Musk

People such as Danish PM Mette Frederiksen don’t want the conflict with Russia to end, the tech tycoon has argued

European leaders who are pushing against a peace agreement in Ukraine want a perpetual state of war, tech billionaire Elon Musk said in a statement on X on Thursday. His remarks come in response to a recent video of Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen arguing that peace in Ukraine could be more dangerous than the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Musk, who is also currently a senior adviser to US President Donald Trump, has repeatedly called for a peaceful resolution of the conflict and has spoken out against continued military aid to Kiev, arguing that it could lead to an escalation and risk a nuclear confrontation.

Responding to a post featuring Frederiksen’s latest remarks, he argued that some European leaders “want the forever war” and asked how many more people will have to lose their lives.

“How many more parents with no sons? How many more children with no fathers?By their logic, it never ends,” Musk wrote.

Frederiksen, who stated last month that “peace in Ukraine is actually more dangerous than the war that is ongoing now,” told journalists earlier this week that “Ukraine has to win this war.”

She claimed that if Russia is allowed to win, it will continue to take military action against other European countries. “If we end this war now with some kind of a ceasefire, it will give Russia the possibility to mobilize more funds, people, andmaybeto attack another country in Europe,” she said.

Her statements echoed comments by other EU leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, who has recently claimed that Russia poses a threat to the entire bloc and called for defense spending to be ramped up.

Russia has also rejected unsubstantiated claims that it intends to attack European or NATO countrieswith Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissing such statements as “nonsense” and fear mongering by EU leaders aimed at alarming citizens and raising defense budgets.

Moscow has warned that one of the key reasons for the Ukraine conflict was NATO expansion towards Russia, including the bloc’s promise that Kiev would eventually become a member.

US aid cut could result in Ukraine migrant crisis – Germany

The EU needs to create a bloc-wide distribution mechanism to offset a potential influx, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has said

The lack of US support for Ukraine could trigger a new wave of Ukrainian migrants into the EU, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has warned, urging the bloc to brace for the impact.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Faeser said thatwhile Germany remains committed to supporting both Kiev and hundreds of thousands of asylum seekerswho arrived in the country after the start of the conflict in 2022, the EU could face a new, but similar crisis.

“If [Russian President Vladimir] Putin escalates this war further, and American support is withdrawn in the future, leading to a larger refugee movement,it is clear to us that we need a binding mechanism for the fair distribution of Ukrainian refugees across the EU,”Faeser stated. (Tell Ukraine to work for peace.)

The minister went on to =+insist on “a mandatory and binding distribution” of the burden==, saying that so far, the brunt of the costs has been borne by Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic.

“That must change if there is a larger wave of refugees,” she said.

When pressed over concerns about whether the EU-wide migration distribution mechanism –given its past failures– could help manage the potential crisis, Faeser expressed optimism.

“I believe it can work because the EU feels very committed to Ukraine,” she remarked. “I am confident that if there were a new wave of refugees due to a possible withdrawal of American aid, there would also be support from other EU countries.”

Around 4.3 million Ukrainians have sought refuge within EU countries. Germany has accommodated 1.2 million Ukrainian refugees, accounting for 26.9% of the EU’s total. Poland and the Czech Republic have also shouldered significant portions, hosting around 990,000 (23.3%) and 388,000 (9.0%) asylum seekers, respectively.

As for Germany, it has spent around €8 billion ($8.6 billion) on support for Ukrainian asylum seekers since 2022, according to Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Washington has suspended military aid to Ukraine after a public spat (it’s not a spat in a demand to stop the war) between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky. The US president accused the Ukrainian leader of ingratitude for American assistance and a reluctance to seek peace with Russia.

The dramatic shift in US policy on Ukraine sparked fears in the EU that Kiev will have a difficult time fending off new Russian attacks.

Kremlin spokesman DmitryPeskov has said if the US halts its military aid for Ukraine completely, it would “probably be the best contribution to the cause of peace.”

Ukraine cut off from HIMARS targeting data – media

The move severely compromises Kiev’s ability to launch long-range strikes against Russia, The Economist’s Oliver Carroll has claimed

The US has stopped providing Ukraine with the necessary data to use High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) for long-range strikes against Russia, according to Oliver Carroll, a staff writer for The Economist.

The decision came after officials in Washington confirmed that they had frozen military aid and intelligence support to Kiev following a spat between Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky and US President Donald Trump.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Carroll wrote that “America cut a key intel link for alerts” at 2pm Kiev time. “Before that: targeting data for HIMARS.Ukraine also isn’t receiving realtime information for long-range strikes,” he added.

“Trump wanted a thank you,” an unnamed source told the journalist. “We will be writing it on graves of dead Ukrainians.”

The source was apparently referring to the US leader’s remarks in which he accused Zelensky of ingratitude for American aid to Kiev, which served as a prelude to the suspension of assistance.

At the same time, CIA Director John Ratcliffe confirmed that the US had suspended both intelligence sharing and weapons systems support to Kiev. However, he noted that the restrictions could be lifted if Ukraine demonstrated a commitment to peace negotiations with Russia.

The Washington Post reported, citing unnamed US and Ukrainian officials, that the freeze on intelligence sharing has resulted in Kiev no longer being able to “strike back at select targets inside Russia,” something which had been allowed – with some exceptions – by the administration of former US President Joe Biden.

A Ukrainian military officer told the outletthat over the past month “at least one of the Ukrainian groups responsible for launching rockets from the US systems has not received coordinates to strike more than about 40 miles beyond the line of contactbetween Russian and Ukrainian forces.”

Another WP source said that theTrump administration continues to share data only when it is necessary to protect Kiev’s troops under attack.

As of November 2024, the US had supplied more than 40 HIMARS systems to Ukraine, along with thousands of missiles, according to the Pentagon. It is unclear how many remain operational and how much ammunition Kiev still has in stock.

Moscow has repeatedly accused Kiev of using HIMARS – which has a range of up to 300km – to strike civilian targets.

Russia has consistently condemned Western arms shipments to Ukraine, arguing that they only prolong the conflict without changing its outcome. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that if the US were to halt military aid completely, it would “probably be the best contribution to the cause of peace.”

Trump aides in secret talks with Zelensky rivals – Politico

Veteran politicians are reportedly seeking favor in Washington following the Ukrainian leader’s recent missteps

Senior members of US President Donald Trump’s administration have engaged in back-channel communications with political rivals of Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, Politico reported on Thursday, citing insider sources.

Zelensky, whose presidential term expired last year, has suspended elections due to martial law,and has refused to transfer presidential authority to the parliament speaker, contravening the constitution.

Undisclosed conversations with former Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko and former President Pyotr Poroshenko have revolved around restarting elections, according to three Ukrainian MPs and a Republican foreign policy expert who spoke anonymously to Politico.

Trump has characterized Zelensky as a “dictator without elections,” while members of his team have accused the Ukrainian leader of obstructing the US president’s peace agenda through his inflexibility. Some American officials have publicly called for Zelensky to step down after a contentious meeting at the White House last Friday.

Publicly, Timoshenko and Poroshenko back Zelensky’s leadership in the conflict with Russia. However, behind closed doors,Ukrainian political figures are reportedly positioning themselves to gain favor with Washington.

Timoshenko was serving a seven-year prison term for abuse of power when the violent 2014 armed coup in Kiev led to her early release. Last month, Zelensky imposed sanctions on Poroshenko, along with exiled opposition leader Viktor Medvedchuk.

On Tuesday, Zelensky expressed his commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict, lamenting that his meeting with Trump had not gone “the way it was supposed to.” Although Zelensky has not admitted to any doing anything wrong, the US president referenced his statement in an address to a joint session of Congress later that day.

Ahead of Trump’s speech, the Ukrainian parliament issued its own public message to the US president, commending his leadership and urging him to maintain “unwavering support” for Kiev. MP Nikita Poturaev, a hardline Zelensky supporter, denounced the conciliatory statement, highlighting the turmoil among Ukrainian lawmakers.

The Trump administration has halted arms supplies to Ukraine and ceased sharing military intelligence. While US European allies have pledged continued support for Kiev, they have also acknowledged that their capacity to assist is severely constrained without US backing.

Russian forces already held an advantage in the conflict prior to these policy shifts from Washington.
