Pertamina’s corruption probe in Indonesia fuels anger over ‘oil and gas mafia’
A US$12 billion corruption scandal at Indonesian state-owned energy giant Pertamina has triggered widespread outrage that threatens to dent public trust in President Prabowo Subianto's administration.
According to the AGO, the suspects allegedly claimed the quality of domestically produced crude oil did not meet local refinery specifications, paving the way for its export by oil contractors, including suspect Muhammad Kerry Adrianto Riza, Chalid's son.

A renowned figure in Indonesia, Mohammad Riza Chalid, known as the "Gasoline Godfather", dominates the oil-import business. His company, Global Energy Resources, was the largest oil supplier to Petral, a company owned by state-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina.
Globe Asia named Riza Chalid one of the wealthiest people in Indonesia, with wealth estimated at US$415 million through Global Energy Resources.
Riza Chalid still owns other business units such as KidZania, a children’s theme park with bases in the upscale Pacific Place mall, Central Jakarta, and nearby Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD).

AGO Raids Riza Chalid's House Amid Son's Alleged Pertamina Corruption Case
Riza Chalid is the father of Muhammad Kerry Andrianto Riza, a suspect in the management of crude oil and refinery products at state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, its sub-holdings, and Cooperation Contract Contractors (KKKS) from 2018 to 2023. Kerry was declared a suspect the previous night, along with six others.

The investigation by an independent, government-appointed audit firm into Petral's operations from 2012 to 2014 points to the source of the corruption as Muhammad Riza Chalid, who heads the Singapore-based Global Energy Resources and other companies with headquarters in the British Virgin Islands, a well-known tax haven.
