A scandal has erupted within Reform UK in Britain as one of its five MPs has been suspended and referred to police amid alleged threats of violence shortly after challenging the leadership structure of the party and leader Nigel Farage.

After soaring to the top of the polls as the strongest party in Britain, Reform UK has withdrawn the whip from one of its five MPs, Rupert Lowe of Greater Yarmouth, and claiming, according to The Times of London, that the party has received reports of “threats of physical violence” against chairman Zia Yusuf as well as alleged “targeting of female staff who raised concerns, and evidence of derogatory and discriminatory remarks made about women, including reference to a perceived disability.”

London’s Metropolitan Police said that it had been informed of the allegations on Thursday, however, the alleged threats are said to have occurred on December 13th. “Officers are carrying out an assessment of the allegations to determine what further action may be required,” the force said in a statement.

The timing of the allegations has been called into question by Lowe, who claimed that they were made in retaliation to comments he made earlier in the week criticising the structure of Reform and deriding leader Nigel Farage as a “messianic” figure at the helm of a “protest” party rather than acting as the frontrunning party that it has become.

“This complaint obviously went in just after I asked reasonable questions of Reform’s leadership. A malicious attempt to drag my name through the mud,” Lowe wrote on social media. He has denied all allegations.

“Let me be abundantly clear — this investigation is based on zero credible evidence against me, as has been repeatedly stated by the neutral investigator. None has been provided,” Lowe said.

The evidence behind a New York Times essay suggesting troops targeted children is less clear-cut than it seems, and there is reason to question the piece’s scathingly anti-IDF author

On January 30, as Israeli and Thai hostages were being released from Hamas captivity amid chaotic mobs, John Spencer, a leading international expert on urban warfare, watched the proceedings while focusing on one specific detail: the weapons held by Hamas gunmen.

“They were carrying M16 and M4 rifles which use 5.56 mm bullets, the same rifles that Israeli soldiers use,” Spencer told The Times of Israel by email.

To Spencer, head of urban warfare studies at the Modern War Institute at West Point in the US, the terrorists’ use of the same weapon as the IDF cast serious doubts on the allegation made in an essay in The New York Times three months earlier implying that Israeli soldiers were deliberately targeting children during the 15-month Gaza war.

Attached to the essay were X-ray pictures appearing to show 5.56-millimeter rounds lodged in children’s heads and necks.

“It could be that the terrorists were shooting the children,” Spencer said.

IDF says it struck terror targets in Lebanon and Gaza amid ceasefires

Military says it hit Hezbollah sites in the north, and suspects planting bombs and engaging in other malign activities in the Strip

The Israel Defense Forces carried out airstrikes on Friday night in southern Lebanon, saying it targeted Hezbollah military sites. It also struck several suspects in Gaza that it said were acting against Israeli forces.

In Lebanon, the army said it hit a Hezbollah operative and sites used to store weapons and rocket launchers, adding that the strikes were carried out due to the threat they posed to Israel.

The operative was “involved in the rehabilitation of terror infrastructure and directing Hezbollah terror operations in southern Lebanon,” the military said.

“The weapons and the rocket launchers in the military sites posed a threat to the State of Israel and constituted a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon,” the IDF said.

Lebanese media showed the results of an Israeli strike on a car between the southern Lebanon towns of Khirbet Selm and al-Jumayjimah. One person was reported killed and another seriously injured.

Yemen Houthis Give Israel Four-Day Deadline To Lift Siege Of Gaza

The leader of the Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen threatened on March 7 to resume attacks on ships affiliated with Israel if aid supplies to the Gaza Strip do not resume within four days.

“If the Israeli enemy continues after the first four days to prevent the entry of aid into the Gaza Strip… then we will resume our naval operations against the Israeli enemy,” Abdulmalik al-Huthi said in a televised address.

The Houthis, who are backed by Iran, fired dozens of drones and missiles at Israeli-affiliated ships and others linked to the United States and the United Kingdom in the Red Sea during the Gaza war, until calling a halt when a ceasefire started on January 19.

The ceasefire allowed aid to enter Gaza. However, earlier this month Israel halted the entrance of all aid to the Strip and threatened “additional consequences” and a return to war if the Hamas Movement continued to refuse a proposal to extend the U.S.-brokered deal.

In addition to the attacks on Israeli-affiliated ships, the Houthis launched dozens of drones and missiles at Israel. In response, multiple waves of Israeli strikes hit Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. The U.S. and the UK also launched hundreds of strikes against the group.

The Houthis’ latest threat was welcomed by Hamas, which praised in a statement the rule the group played in the conflict with Israel.

“The brave decision … is an extension of the positions of support and assistance that they [the Houthis] provided over the course of 15 months of war … in Gaza”, Hamas said.

It’s worth noting that the threat comes days after the U.S. re-designated the Houthis group as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and sanctioned seven of its senior figures.

The group earlier shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper combat drone over the western shores of Yemen. This was the 15th such drone to be downed by Houthi air defense fire since the beginning of the conflict in Gaza.

All in all, the Houthis, who had proven to be a capable military force, appear to be determined to support Hamas and other Palestinian armed factions in Gaza. However, with the fighting nearly over on the fronts with the Strip and Lebanon, Israel now has more resources to escalate against Yemen.

The women were reportedly rescued from the attack by a Russian man named 44-year-old Alexander Belinsky, who was physically assaulted and later hospitalized by the three men. He is currently receiving treatment at Patong Hospital.

The Finnish women told police that they were in their room when three Israeli men barged in and tried to assault them. Belinsky was reportedly walking past the room when he noticed the alleged ongoing attack and intervened.

Barclays app down AGAIN: Customers are unable to transfer funds or access app just days after bank said it would pay out millions in compensation following previous outage

The Barclays banking app is down, with millions of customers unable to transfer funds or access their accounts.

According to Down Detector, the problems started at around 7am GMT, and are affecting users across the UK.

The site detected a huge spike in complaints, with nearly three-quarters of them citing problems with 'funds transfer'.

The failure comes only days after the bank said it would pay out millions in compensation following a previous outage.

Users took to social media site X to complain, with one user writing: 'I am SO over Barclays quite literally RUINING lives.

'Completely ruined my holiday last time not letting me access my money now the apps down AGAIN so another weekend of not being able to access my own money or even talk to staff about it.'

Other customers vented about the lack of communication from the banking giant about, complaining that they had to find out about the outage from social media.

One user wrote: 'How is Barclays gonna go down and I have to be informed by searching about it on Twitter rather than the banking actually letting their customers know. Shambles.'

What happens when people no longer trust a Government that abandons whistleblowers, surrenders its citizens to a foreign power and hides behind ever-increasing secrecy,

I no longer trust Australia’s Government.

That statement will seem trite to some, perhaps to many, naïve to more. It is not to me. The sense of betrayal is visceral. Wrestling with the words at this keyboard, the realisation hurts. It would not be hard to cry.

This is not a matter of party politics. Yes, one mob is worse than the other – you chose which one. It is the culmination of decades of bipartisan failure eating away at faith and then, the way such things do, a sudden collapse.

“There are decades where nothing happens and there are weeks where decades happen” wrote Lenin, someone with experience in the matter. It’s the decades-in-weeks thing happening now.

I like to think I’ve maintained a healthy sense of optimistic scepticism over more than half a century of journalism. I am not given to conspiracy theories, possess no tinfoil hats and will happily offer my upper arm for vaccinations. I’m not a political idealist – the elector’s responsibility is only to select the least worst option. I’m even pragmatic about what our spooks get up to. (Of course we bug our neighbours, doesn’t everyone?)

Years of incrementalism and wedge politics enabled the slide of trust, the bipartisan abrogation of sovereignty greased it, set it up for the plunge amidst our flailing reaction to the Trump circus with a single trigger, the proverbial straw.
