When the cops on NYPD vice raised the weekly pad the mob which owned all the gay bars on Christopher Street refused to pay. The cops started beating and arresting customers and all the angriest most militant fags like Doug Ireland got pushed to one mob bar. When the cops raided that night they had and insta riot and were forced to drop their demands.

That's the origen story of the stonewall riots. Most of the customer fags never knew they were handled.
