Secret Service agents revealed the man appeared to be suicidal. Once he started waving around his weapon, he triggered a confrontation with the Secret Service.

Thousands of accounts with suspected links to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have been removed by social media platform X over the past month.
The accounts, which exhibited inauthentic activity, had been used to boost articles published by The New York Times that targeted a religious group persecuted in China.
One of the articles, a Chinese-language version of an attack piece on Shen Yun Performing Arts, was boosted so much it became the most shared New York Times article on X in more than a year, according to data from BuzzSumo, a social media analytics tool.
“It looks like a nation-state automated bot attack,” said Rex Lee, a cybersecurity expert at My Smart Privacy who has advised major corporations and government agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency.
Most of the accounts were taken down by X after The Epoch Times sent the platform the results of an extensive investigation into the issue. The platform then launched its own investigation.
“We take reports like these very seriously, and continue to action millions of accounts per week for platform manipulation and spam violations,” Dave Heinzinger, X’s head of media strategy, told The Epoch Times in an emailed statement.

The tiny hamlet of Caroline, home to just 500 residents northwest of Calgary, is at the centre of a growing debate over how rural communities can balance much-needed tax revenue with the desire to preserve their unique way of life.
At issue is a proposed 57-acre, 14-megawatt solar farm that supporters hail as an economic lifeline, but opponents fear could alter the character of the village forever. The project, which buts up to the northern border, is almost the size of the town itself.
After years of regulatory hearings and delays last year’s moratorium on renewable energy development, the project finally received approval on Feb. 28.
Local resident and project opponent Penny Judson said she and other residents found out from the Alberta Energy Regulator just before 5 pm on a Friday afternoon. What ensued was a furious flurry of phone calls to government officials and an impromptu door knocking campaign.

A new disinformation campaign linked to the Chinese regime is targeting individuals based in Canada who are critical of Beijing, as well as their families, using tactics such as spreading AI-generated content to “intimidate, belittle, and harass” them, Global Affairs Canada says.
The latest “spamouflage” campaign is “more extensive” than the one reported in 2023, which targeted dozens of members of Parliament, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, and several cabinet members, Global Affairs Canada said in a March 6 press release.

Mitnick and Gerlitz will be hosted by IJV chapters across Canada to talk about war resisters in the movement for a free Palestine, nonviolent resistance to Zionist fascism in Israel, pinkwashing of Israeli apartheid, and how Canadians can support resistance to Israeli warcrimes.
Mitnick and Gerlitz are leading figures in a growing wave of dissent among Israeli youth, challenging the brutal military occupation and advocating for Palestinian liberation. Both of them have paid the price for their stand, enduring time in Israeli military prisons for their refusal to participate in what they call a violent system that perpetuates apartheid and genocide. Their actions have sparked a global conversation about the vital role of war resisters in the fight for human rights and a free Palestine.
IJV has partnered with the Mesarvot Network on this tour, which will also feature speakers from the Palestinian solidarity movement in Canada. Mesarvot’s mandate is to support and raise the profile of young Israelis who refuse to be part of Israel’s war machine.
