Last Friday, Liberal Public Safety Minister David McGuinty announced that federal funds of $50 million over a five-year time frame will be used to give Ottawa Police “even more resources to keep our downtown safe, ensuring real-time responses to any emergencies.”

The new dedicated police detachment will be made up of 49 employees, and will be fully staffed in three years’ time, noted Ottawa’s Police Chief Eric Stubbs. It will take over from the current Parliamentary Protective Service for most of the area around Canada’s House of Commons.

As reported by the Ottawa Citizen, Ottawa Liberal MP Yasir Naqvi said the new police detachment is needed to counteract any future protests like the Freedom Convoy, whom he claimed “occupied” downtown Ottawa.

“I don’t want to sugarcoat it, but I think you all remember how challenging and difficult a period it was during the almost month-long occupation of downtown Ottawa,” he told reporters last Friday.

Naqvi claimed that his community “has not forgotten that [Freedom Convoy,]” adding that the government is “investing in our downtown core in the parliamentary district so that we don’t live through that ever again.”

As for McGuinty, he claimed that the new police detachment will be used to “safeguard and secure the right to protest and the right to visit and the right to be there, that’s a fundamental element of our democracy.” Continue…

Ksenia P. had been placed on the international wanted list in November 2020, with Kazakhstan seeking her extradition to serve a 12-year prison sentence for crimes committed between 2017 and 2019.

The episode was part of TPS’s Project Olive Branch podcast but was removed after criticism from the Jewish community.

During the discussion, Constables Haroon Siddiqui and Farhan Ali talked about the impact of the attacks, with Siddiqui stating that they led to increased interest in Islam.

“Through social media, a lot of people after October 7 started learning about Islam, and they said, ‘well what is it with the religion, why is it so hated? Why are they being attacked all the time?' So people say, 'let me learn about Islam,'" said Siddiqui, with Ali shaking his head in agreement." There have been a lot of reverts through this whole process. I guess when you’re on social media, most of the feeds come through you, once you see one they keep coming, but the amount of people that are reverting to Islam is unbelievable and they’re just, through education, right? They’re educating themselves and saying, ‘what is it that Muslims are being targeted? And why are they being targeted? Let me learn about this religion, what are these accusations they’re saying about Islam and let me learn about it myself and figure out if it’s true or not.’”

On Tuesday night, TPS issued a statement apologizing for the podcast.

“We acknowledge that a recent episode of our podcast, Project Olive Branch, has caused significant upset and concern in the Jewish community and beyond. That was not our intention, and we apologize. The podcast has been removed,” the statement read.

It has been revealed that the Liberals under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have announced funding to the tune of $15.3 million to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in armies across the Middle East.

The goal is to "ensure a more inclusive and gender-responsive approach to peace and stabilization in the region."

In partnership with the International Organization for Migration, the Canadian government promised $4.7 million to help the Jordanian Special Operations Forces "integrate female soldiers into the organization through the designing and construction of a dedicated female accommodation building at their headquarters."

A further $1.1 million has been allocated for "the construction and renovation of dedicated female accommodation buildings" in Jordanian Armed Forces bases "to ensure that female soldiers are holistically integrated within the JAF," as well as $1.8 million to expand the JAF's Military Women's Training Centre.

Over in Lebanon, the Canadian government will be spending $3.9 million to increase the capacity of the Lebanese Special Operation Force "to better plan and conduct operations, including with the participation of female personnel."

A further $3.8 million has been allocated to construct a new building at the Lebanese Armed Forces' Mountain Warfare Ski School that will "establish a learning environment that supports a variety of instructional needs and allows for multi-gender occupancy to support female integration efforts into LAF operations."

The government lamented that as of now, "there is no appropriate location for conducting training and education efforts and the ability to engage female integration into the training is limited due to a lack of safe, appropriate accommodations."

The aforementioned projects were announced on September 30, 2024 as part of the over $38 million in funding to "support security, peace and stability in the Middle East and Central Asia."

Over the last 10 years, the Government of Canada has spent around $11.2 billion on overseas gender initiatives, focusing on projects directly targeting gender equality and women’s empowerment as outlined in Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP).

The figure is a conservative estimate, as it primarily includes gender-targeted aid and doesn’t account for the full value of gender-integrated projects, which could add billions more if fully calculated.

Trudeau announced FIAP in the House of Commons in 2017, emphasizing Canada’s commitment to gender equality.

"We are here today to launch Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy — a policy that puts women and girls at the centre of everything we do in international assistance. Because we know that when women and girls thrive, everyone benefits," he said.

Trudeau promised to balance the budget by 2019 during the 2015 election, but instead ran nine consecutive deficits.

The largest was in 2023/24, with a deficit of $61.9 billion, the highest outside the COVID-19 period. Annual deficits averaged around $39–48 billion from 2020–2025, driven by pandemic spending, infrastructure, and social programs.

Federal debt doubled from $693.8 billion in 2015 to an estimated $1.4 trillion by March 2025 — according to the Fraser Institute.

Per-person debt rose by $14,127 (inflation-adjusted) from 2014/15 to 2023/24, with debt servicing costs hitting $53.7 billion in 2024/25, or $1,301 per person — more than federal GST revenue.

Pre-COVID deficits were smaller — $18.1 billion in 2018/19 — but pandemic spending (2020–2022) and ongoing spending in health, climate, and Indigenous reconciliation pushed debt higher.

Critics, like the Fraser Institute, argue much of the spending was wasteful, while Trudeau’s government framed it as necessary for economic recovery and social equity.

Economies around the globe are making moves to implement a centralized digital currency under the guise of “convenience” — but if successful, it could lead to ultimate authoritarian control, warn experts.

The Bank of Canada (BoC) has said it has “paused” — not stopped — efforts to research and implement a central bank digital currency (CBDC), leaving the ultra-modernized way of banking to become a real possibility in Canada.

A report by the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) shared with the Western Standard in advance of publication indicates a Bank of Canada CBDC is more than likely on the horizon in some capacity, particularly since Mark Carney has come on the scene in recent months — and escalated in prominence at such a rate he has already been named the leader of the Liberal party.

The report will be made publicly available on the JCCF website Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Carney, who was governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, is a long-term supporter of CBDCs, as well as other policies pushed by the World Economic Forum (WEF), such as climate revolutionism.

As listed on the WEF website, prime minister-designate Carney, a WEF "Agenda Coordinator," belongs to a long list of global organizations and elite corporations, including multiple boards (though he insisted he has resigned from all his positions, the Western Standard earlier reported he still belongs to at least five), and is a member of the elusive Group of Thirty.

A November 2023 BoC public survey found a staggering 79% of Canadians opposed the implementation of a CBDC, indicating they did not trust the BoC’s ability to build and run a secure system.

“A CBDC could threaten Canadians’ privacy, security, autonomy, financial independence and their access to economic participation,” warned JCCF in the report.

“It could usher in a cashless economy, thereby removing access to the intangible but important benefits cash provides. A CBDC provides surveillance capabilities that can be used to monitor every financial transaction, and can program money with targeted restrictions that could differ from person to person, thereby increasing government control and reducing freedom.”

$100,000 in Counterfeit Canadian Currency Shipped From China Seized: RCMP

RCMP in Nova Scotia have seized more than $100,000 in counterfeit Canadian bills after border agents intercepted two packages from China.

The packages were heading to the same address in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, according to a March 12 news release.

The first package was seized by Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers at Mirabel International Airport in Quebec on Jan. 9. It had counterfeit holographic stickers similar to security strips on Canadian bills, according to police.

About three weeks later, CBSA officers at the international cargo processing facility in Mississauga intercepted about $30,000 in fake Canadian bank notes. The notes were in $10, $20, $50, and $100 bills, the release said.

CBSA reported the packages to the RCMP who say they started an investigation.

On Feb. 11, Nova Scotia RCMP Commercial Crime Section executed a search warrant at a Glace Bay home, assisted by the Provincial Proceeds of Crime Section and Cape Breton Regional Police Service’s Community Safety Enforcement Unit.

At the home, officers seized holographic stickers, about $70,000 in counterfeit currency, electronic devices, and a rifle, among other items, the news release said.

The investigation is ongoing, led by Nova Scotia RCMP’s Commercial Crime section, and assisted by the National Anti-Counterfeiting Bureau, according to police.

Ottawa is looking for a buyer to take over a large electric vehicle battery plant project in Quebec after its Swedish parent company filed for bankruptcy, Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne said.

“We’re having discussions in the background to see if we can find a party that is interested in taking over the factory,” Champagne said during an unrelated press conference in Ottawa on March 12.

Battery cell maker Northvolt AB announced it filed for bankruptcy in Sweden on March 12, halting the plan to build a European giant to rival its Asian competitors.

The company said it faced a number of challenges in recent months, such as rising capital costs, shifts in market demand, geopolitical instability, and subsequent supply chains disruptions.

Ottawa and the province of Quebec have invested billions to bring Northvolt to Canada. The investment to build a factory east of Montreal, which would occupy an area equivalent to 318 football fields, was first announced in September 2023.

The first phase of the project was said to be a $7 billion investment, with Ottawa providing $1.34 billion in capital and Quebec $1.37 billion.

Other government production incentives were worth up to $4.6 billion, with a third falling on Quebec.

Ottawa said the project could provide 3,000 jobs and contribute up to $1.6 billion to Canada’s GDP.

The status of the factory is now in limbo and Champagne said he’s working on finding a solution.

Champagne responded with an emphatic “no” when asked by reporters whether China could take over the factory. “I want to be very clear, the answer is clearly ‘no,’” he added. Continue…

Mark Carney will be sworn in as Canada’s next prime minister on Friday, March 14.

In a statement in the evening of March 12, the office of Gov. General Mary Simon said she will be presiding over the swearing-in ceremony at Rideau Hall at 11 a.m. on March 14.

Carney won the leadership race of the governing Liberal Party with a wide margin on March 9. His win with 85.9 percent of the nearly 152,000 votes cast put him well ahead of former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland, who garnered 8.0 percent of the vote, followed by former cabinet minister Karina Gould with 3.2 percent and former Liberal MP Frank Baylis with 3.0 percent.

Carney has already been meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and cabinet ministers as part of the transition.

Carney, 59, will become a prime minister who currently isn’t a sitting parliamentarian, a rare occurrence, and will be the first Canadian prime minister who has never held an elected role before.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has met with incoming Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss Ford’s upcoming meeting with the Trump administration in Washington.

“We agreed on the need to stand firm and strong in the face of President Trump’s threats, including additional retaliatory tariffs in response to U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum, which will raise costs for American businesses and families,” Ford said in a March 12 social media post.

The U.S. imposed 25 percent tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum on March 12, and Ottawa has responded with tariffs on $29.8 billion in U.S. goods.

Ford said Canada would not relent until “the threat of tariffs is gone for good,” and said he looks forward to meeting with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and other members of U.S President Donald Trump’s economic team in Washington, D.C., on March 13.

Carney thanked Ford for the meeting on social media, saying “We’ve got a big fight ahead of us, and we’ll be working together every step of the way.”

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has written to the Liberal government to request that they abandon legislation which would remove tax exemptions for religious and pro-life groups.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has appealed to the Liberal government to rethink Trudeau’s plan to strip pro-life and religious groups of their tax charity status.

In a March 10 letter, the CCCB, the national assembly of the bishops of the Catholic Church in Canada, wrote to the Liberal government, requesting that they abandon Recommendations 429 and 430, which would remove tax exemptions for religious and pro-life groups.

“We wish to express our grave concerns regarding the proposed legislative changes to the eligibility criteria for charitable status,” the letter begins.

“The Catholic charitable sector in Canada, anchored by dioceses and parishes across the country, includes a wide range of community services and ministries, including foodbanks, soup kitchens, refugee resettlement programs, climate and social justice programs, daycares and schools, hospitals, long-term care homes and palliative care centres, to name but a few examples,” the letter continued.

“These compassionate, purpose-driven, and accessible Catholic services are available to all Canadians, regardless of religious affiliation; these charities meet essential and sometimes complex social needs within communities nationwide,” it explained.

“A recent study found that the cost of replacing the services offered by faith congregations in Canada is $16.5 billion. Simply put, places of worship provide benefits to society that radiate far beyond their congregations,” the letter declared.

The letter is in response to legislation introduced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in October, legislation that could have stripped pro-life pregnancy centers and religious groups of their charity status.  Continue…
