Russian MP ‘declares war’ on ‘esoteric’ services
A member of the Duma says “con artists” swindled more than a billion dollars from people last year
Russian lawmakers should consider banning “esoteric” and “spiritual” services, along with various outlets that advertise them, Russian MP Nina Ostanina said in a statement on Tuesday.
A new bill proposed by the lawmaker and her colleagues would amend preexisting laws, banning the promotion of various occult services and online resources that advertise them, aiming to protect vulnerable citizens from psychological and financial harm.
“These practices, including astrology, magic, energy ‘healing’ and fortune telling, have no scientific basis, mislead people, and are often used for fraud,” Ostanina wrote on her Telegram channel, posting the draft bill. (I don’t know, but energy healing works, God made us with energy. But the others are just wasting time and money. Doesn’t Russia use psychics in their secret programs?)
“These con artists swindled more than 100 billion rubles ($1.15 billion) from households and families in 2024 alone,” she added.
If accepted, the bill would affect tarot card readers, mediums, crystal therapists, numerologists and other esoteric services, according to the bill’s explanatory notes.
International precedents suggest that regulating these kinds of businesses “reduces the risk of fraud,” Ostanina said.
“Ignoramuses, crooks, charlatans and deceivers – I declare war on you,” she wrote.
According to a poll last year by The Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTSIOM),roughly six out of ten Russians had resorted to esoteric servicesat least once in their lifetime,and one in four believed in their effectiveness.
The Russian ‘magic’ market niche grew by 20%, while traffic to websites providing the services spiked by 38% in 2024, the newspaper MK claimed in December. According to the outlet’s estimates, the industry’s total annual turnover in Russia reached trillions of rubles last year, comparable to Russians’ annual spending on groceries.

Russia increased migrant expulsions in 2024 – interior ministry
Moscow has been enforcing stricter laws for foreigners in the country since a major terrorist attack last year
The number of =•foreign nationals expelled from Russia reached 190,000 last year==, nearly a third more than in 2023, Interior Ministry spokeswoman Irina Volk announced on Wednesday. The country adopted stricter migration laws following a foreign-organized terrorist attack on a concert venue outside Moscow in March 2024, in which four gunmen killed 145 people and injured over 500 others.
The jihadist group ISIS-K, the Afghan branch of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS), claimed responsibility for the attack, which was carried out by Tajik nationals. Many of those suspected of aiding the attackers were also foreign nationals from Central Asia, some with prior criminal records.
The number of foreigners expelled from the country in 2024 due to law violations jumped by 45% compared to 2023, Volk said in a statement on her Telegram channel.The official added that the ministry issued over 267,000 orders of entry denial, up 54% from the previous year.
“Additionally, the number of issued temporary residence permits halved, while the number of permanent residence permits dropped by almost a quarter,” Volk said, emphasizing that the drop is attributed to stricter control measures aimed at “detecting and preventing cases of foreign citizens abusing the right to obtain such statuses through a simplified procedure.”
In December, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree requiring illegal migrants to either legalize their status or leave Russia by April 30, 2025.
Last year, several new lawswere enacted to monitor illegal migration through a register of “controlled persons.” Additionally, starting February 5, 2025, the expulsion of undocumented foreigners no longer requires a court ruling.
Organizing illegal migration has now been classified as a particularly serious offense. Penalties include the confiscation of financial assetsor property acquired through human trafficking.The measure aims to eliminate economic incentives for criminals and disrupt illegal migration networks. German spies hid evidence of Covid origin for years – media
Berlin decided against sharing intelligence suggesting the virus came from a lab, fearing political fallout
Germany’s foreign intelligence agency (BND)obtained evidence in the early days of the pandemic that convinced it that Covid-19 originated in a laboratory, Die Zeit and Sueddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) newspapers reported on Wednesday. Berlin then decided to keep the conclusion secret out of fear of a possible mistake and potential political fallout, the media outlets said, citing their own investigation.
TheBND dispatched a team of specialists to investigate the origins of the virus in the early weeks of 2020, the report said.They focused on Chinese government agencies and scientific institutions,including the Wuhan laboratory, where they reportedly discovered documents the German media describe as “fascinating and explosive.”
The German intelligence agency’s findings reportedly included data on experiments with coronaviruses,as well as a series of unpublished studies from 2019 and 2020, including those dealing with effects of coronaviruses on the human brain.
“The material suggests thatan unusually large amount of knowledgeabout the supposedly novel virus was available in Wuhan at an unusually early stage,” Die Zeit reported.
The materials were reportedly evaluated by a team of BND analysts led by a virologist. The teamcross-referenced the datawith publicly available studies and materials obtained from other nationsand concluded “with 80 to 95% certainty” that Covid “likely originated in a Chinese laboratory.” The BND reportedly believed that the outbreak was caused by an accident stemming from lax safety rules in the Wuhan lab.
Theresults were presented to former Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government, but it was skeptical and decided not to share the information with anyone, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the German parliament, according to the media. Berlin was reportedly afraid of potential complications in relations with Beijing and Washington.
The government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, which succeeded Merkel’s,also reportedly did not find the BND conclusions convincingenough and initially decided to keep them under wraps.It was only in late 2024 that the BND was allowed to share its findings with the CIAand a carefully selected group of scientists, according to the outlets.
The CIA said in January 2025 it believed “with low confidence” that Covid-19 likely originated in a lab. The Chinese government has repeatedly rejected the lab-leak theory. Another major theory suggests that Covid-19 emerged from a natural source, specifically through zoonotic transmission from animals to humans.
Following SZ’s and Die Zeit’s inquiry, Berlin said it would share the BND findings with the German parliament and the WHO andrelease some materials related to the scientific assessment of the agency’s conclusions to the public at some point in the future.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio Outlines Next Steps Toward Ukraine-Russia Ceasefire

We should keep in mind; a potential ceasefire carries with it a potential benefit for Russia inthat a cessation of hostilities provides the opportunity for Ukraine to hold elections. There is a strong sense that current Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would not win if elections were held in the embattled country.
During his trip to Ireland, Secretary Rubio took multiple questions about the framework of the ‘ceasefire’ terms that Ukraine has outlined. From the Trump/Rubio perspective, the goal is to stop the killing. It is likely that Steve Witkoff will travel to Russia with a broad outline of the discussions so far. From that point another conversation between President Trump and President Putin is likely.
Secretary Rubio stays focused on the primary objective, to get both sides to agree to come to the table, with an interim goal to talk about the conditions for a 30-day ceasefire. WATCH:

Trump Border Czar Tom Homan Blasts New York Democrats for ‘Pro-Illegal Immigration’ Policies

Trump border czar Tom Homan ventured to Albany, New York, Wednesdayto stand with state Republicans and to blast Democrats for what he says are their “pro-illegal immigration” policies.
Homan criticized Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul and state Democrats for interfering with federal immigration enforcement, WNYW-TV reported.
The Trump official also said he intends to meet with New York City Mayor Eric Adams andslammed Hochul, saying, “She goes and tries to fire the mayor, who wants to help me find public safety threats.”
While in New York, Homan will rally with SenateRepublicans who are looking to roll back sanctuary policiesand institute requirements for state law enforcement to work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Hochul is not expected to meet with Homan, according to the New York Post.
Sparks flew, though, as soon as he arrived in the state capital, as protesters, including assemblymember and NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, tried to assail the Trump official.
State Republicans arehoping to convince legislators to adopt the Laken Riley Act, which would require state law enforcement to work with ICE and other federal immigration enforcement officials.
The Empire State has become a target of the Trump administration over its lenient sanctuary policies. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi recently sued the state for violating constitutional requirements to work with the federal government on immigration.
“New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. It stops. It stops today. We’re here today because we have filed charges against this,” AG Bondi said in February. “Violent criminals, gang members, drug traffickers, human smugglers will no longer terrorize the American people.”

Report: Illegal Migrants Cost Florida $660 Million in Unpaid Hospital Bills

Florida’s healthcare system was burdened with $660 million in unpaid hospital bills in 2024 incurred by illegal migrants, according to the state’s most recent report.
The Sunshine’s State’s “Hospital Patient Immigration Status Report,” released by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA),says hospitals go “largely uncompensated” for the health care they dole out to illegal migrants, and the large number of indigent patients is a “direct contributor to the strain on Florida’s health care system.”
The report adds that, in 2024, $659.9 million was spent on “providing care to illegal aliens across the state.” The number tops the $566 million lost to illegals in 2023, though in 2023 the numbers only began tracking the costs starting in June after the state’s legislature passed a law requiring the amassing of the data on unpaid hospital bills, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.
“The agency remains dedicated to fulfilling Governor DeSantis’ commitment to protecting taxpayer dollars from being used on individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States,” said AHCA Deputy Secretary Kim Smoak.
The AHCA manages the state’s Medicaid program, regulating and licensing healthcare facilities and publishing state health data. The agency also has a dedicated Medicaid fraud unit that works directly with the Florida Attorney General’s office.
As a result of the 2023 law, the AHCA publishes its report on healthcare costs for illegal aliens on March 1 of every year. But, even with the reporting, the loss might be worse because the current law is based on data from patients who self-report their immigration status and many illegal migrants do not volunteer that information.
The ACHA’s Hospital Patient Immigration Status Dashboard breaks the data down to the county level to allow residents to look up the information online.
The counties with the highest percentage of patients who told doctors and administrations that theywere illegal aliens include Miami-Dade, Lee, and Manatee counties.
The top three counties included Miami-Dade, which reported losing $282.2 million, Broward County, which lost $77 million, and Hillsborough, which reported $64.4 million in losses.
Overall, thereport claimed illegal aliens accounted for 67,700 emergency room visits. However, the real number is likely far higherbecause many of the state’s hospitals noted that more than half of their patients refused to say if they were legal residents or not.
Tampa General Hospital Spring Hill, for instance,said 63.4 percent of its emergency room patients did not answer the citizenship question on admitting paperwork.

Chuck Grassley Targets NGOs Who Raked in $9 Billion Helping Biden Funnel Children into U.S.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, isgoing after non-governmental organizations (NGOs) who raked in billions in American taxpayer dollars by helping former President Joe Biden’s administrationquickly funnel hundreds of thousands of migrant children into the United States —many thousand of whom the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) lost contact with.
More than half a million Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) were encountered at the southern border under Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris before being taken into HHS custody and resettled with adult sponsors in the U.S., most of whom are not their biological parents.
The Biden administration’s policy of fast-tracking UACs into American communities led to whistleblowers and Inspector General (IG) reports accusing HHS of losing contact with hundreds of thousands of children they are responsible for looking after.
NGOs contracting with HHS to resettle UACs in the U.S. received more than $9.3 billion in American taxpayer dollars but have refused to cooperate with Grassley’s investigation into the matter.
This week,Grassley sent letters to 23 NGOs involved in the UAC program, writing:
“[Last year], I sent an urgent inquiry to two dozen organizations that provided care for, or services related to, unaccompanied children in the custody of HHS. The organizations within the scope of my review have received over $9.3 billion in combined taxpayer funding from HHS and yet have chosen not to fully respond to Congress. I won’t accept further delay while children are at risk. [Emphasis added]
It’s unacceptable for recipients of taxpayer funding to refuse to provide information to Congress about the use of those funds.And it’s beyond unacceptable for these federally-funded entities to refuse to answer questions designed to determine whether they protected children. I’m determined to protect UACs in U.S. custody and expose, through my oversight, fatal defects in the process for the purposes of ending child trafficking and other forms of exploitation. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Grassley that the agency would fully cooperate with his investigation into the UAC program under Biden.
Last month, President Donald Trump announced major reforms to the UAC program, including requiring adult sponsors to be fingerprinted as well as other adults in their homes and requiring that such adults provide unexpired identification documents.
