Italy to boycott UK-France-led meeting on Ukraine – media

PM Giorgia Meloni reportedly believes that London and Paris are “rushing ahead” to promote deploying troops to the country

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will no take part in an upcoming video conference proposed by UK and France, in which a so-called “coalition of the willing” intends to increase military support for Ukraine, La Repubblica and La Stampa newspapers have reported.

In its article on Tuesday, La Repubblica said that “it is certain” that Meloni will boycott the virtual meeting of the Western European leaders being convened by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Saturday.

The ItalianPM reportedly “distances herself from the Franco-British axis” due to her disagreementwith the push by London and Paris to send peacekeepers to aid Kiev. Meloni believes that Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are “rushing ahead” with their idea, according to La Repubblica.

The move by Rome could “split the front that Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron are trying to build,” La Stampa noted.

The media outlet claimed that the Italian authorities had decided to drop out of the video conferenceafter extensive discussions with other governments, including the administration of US President Donald Trump.

Starmer announced that the UK and France are ready to lead a “coalition of the willing” to support Ukraine with troops and aircraft during an emergency summit in London in early March. This came shortly after Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky had a public disagreement at the White House, where Trump accused the Ukrainian leader of opposing peace with Russia and being ungrateful for US assistance.

Shortly after the summit, Meloni stressed that “Italy will not be sending troops to Ukraine.” She suggested that European politicians should instead focus on developing conditions for a just and lasting peace between Moscow and Kiev, including security guarantees for Ukraine.

Earlier this week, the Italian PM expressed “satisfaction” with the outcome of the talks between the US and Ukraine in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, which ended with Kiev agreeing to an “immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire.” She said that Rome “fully supports” Trump’s peace efforts and that “the decision is now up to Russia.”

Moscow has said repeatedly that it would not accept a temporary ceasefire with Kiev, insisting that the conflict must be settled through reliable, legally binding agreements that would eliminate its root causes. Russia has also categorically ruled out the possibility of Western European peacekeepers arriving in Ukraine.

(Can you imagine how horrible it would be to be part of the European Continent and the EU? Stuck with a bunch of fake cowboys is ridiculous, like Macron or Starner are a Cowboys. KEK)

Putin lists guarantees Moscow wants for 30-day ceasefire

The Russian president wants assurances that Kiev will halt military mobilization, soldier training, and arms deliveries

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed support for a potential 30-day ceasefire in the Ukraine conflictbut has raised concerns regarding how such a truce be implemented. Speaking on Thursday, Putin warned of potential loopholes and strategic disadvantages.

“We also want guarantees that during the 30-day ceasefire, Ukraine will not conduct mobilization, will not train soldiers, and will not receive weapons,” Putin said during a press briefing with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko in Moscow.

The president pointed out thatRussian troops are advancing along nearly 2,000 kilometers of frontline, and halting military actions could disrupt ongoing operations. Ukrainian forces could use a ceasefire period to regroup, receive more weapons, and train fresh recruits, he warned.

“These 30 days — how will they be used? To continue forced mobilization in Ukraine? To receive more arms supplies? To train newly mobilized units? Or will none of this happen?” Putin asked.

Enforcing a ceasefireover such a vast battlefield would be difficult, he added, violations could be easily disputed, leading to a blame game between both sides.Systems of “control and verification” to monitor a ceasefire are not in place but should be agreed.

Putin also mentioned that Ukrainian troops who invaded Russia’s Kursk Region in August 2024 are now cut off. What is to be done with them in the event of a truce is unclear, he noted.

“Are we supposed to let them out, after they committed mass war crimes against civilians? Will the Ukrainian leadership tell them to lay down their arms, and just surrender?”Putin said.

As of Wednesday evening, Moscow’s forces have regained control of 86% of the territory that was occupied by Ukrainian forces in August 2024, according to the head of the Russian General Staff, General Valery Gerasimov. Kiev’s remaining units in the area have been largely “encircled” and “isolated,” he claimed.

Putin suggested that discussions with his American counterpart Donald Trump will be necessary to find a viable solution.

“The idea of ending the conflict through peaceful means is something we support,” he stressed.

Russia ready for ceasefire – Putin

The president has stressed that such an agreement “must lead to long-term peace”

Russia is ready for a ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict, President Vladimir Putin has said, stressing that such an agreement “must lead to long-term peace.”

Moscow believes that the “idea” of a ceasefire is the “right one,” Putin told journalists during a joint press conference with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Moscow on Thursday. “We absolutely support it,” he added.

“We endorsethe ideaof resolving the conflict through peaceful means,” the president insisted.

• Certain issues still need to be discussed and resolved before a truce can be reached,Putin stated, adding that Moscow particularly needs to discuss them with the US. The dialogue could also require a personal conversation with US President Donald Trump, the Russian leader said. (They mention they need to speak to Trump personally a lot, it’s doubtful they are not already talking a lot, so code?)

• Concerns listed by Putin included systems of “control and verification” to monitor the ceasefire regime, as well as Kiev’s potential attempts to use the pause in hostilities to rearm and reinforce its troops on the frontline.

• “Are 30 days to be used to continue forced mobilization in Ukraine, to supply it with arms and to train the newly [formed] units?” the president stated. “Will there be any guarantees that nothing of that sort will happen?”

• The situation in Kursk Region, on the Russian border, could also be a major point of contention, according to the Russian president. Putin wondered if a ceasefire would mean that Russia would have to allow all Ukrainian troops that invaded the area in August 2024 to leave. “Should we just let them out after they committed numerous crimes against civilians? Or will Kiev order them to lay down arms?” he asked.

• As of Wednesday evening, Moscow’s forces had liberated 86% of the territory occupied by the Ukrainians in August 2024, according to the head of the Russian General Staff, General Valery Gerasimov. The remainder of Kiev’s units in the area were largely “encircled” and “isolated,” he explained.

• Washington and Kiev both endorsed a 30-day temporary truce following a meeting between the two nations’ delegations in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. US special envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to present the results of those talks during his visit to Moscow later today.

• Russia has previously spoken out against any temporary truce in the Ukraine conflict, arguing that Kiev would use it to rearm and continue fighting. Putin has insisted that any resolution to the conflict must address the root causes in order to establish a long-lasting sustainable peace.

Trump reveals Zelensky U-turn

The US president has said Kiev has changed its tune since his spat with the Ukrainian leader in the Oval Office

Vladimir Zelensky changed his stance and “agreed to peace,” only following meetings between officials from Kiev and Washington in Saudi Arabia, which produced a proposal for a temporary ceasefire with Russia, US President Donald Trump has said.

Moscow has yet to receive detailed information about Trump’s ceasefire proposal, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, after a joint US-Ukraine statement on Tuesday indicated that Kiev was prepared to accept a 30-day truce.

Speaking to journalists at the White House on Wednesday, Trump claimed that Ukraine was now willing to negotiate and that “it’s up to Russia now.”

“As you know,I’ve always said that Ukraine might have been the more difficult party. You saw – you were here a week ago – when some interesting things happened,” Trump said, referring to a heated exchange with Zelensky in the Oval Office that ended with the Ukrainian leader being asked to leave prematurely.

During the confrontation, Trump criticized Zelensky for a lack of gratitude toward the US and accused him of refusing to pursue a peaceful resolution with Moscow. Shortly afterward, Washington suspended military aid and intelligence sharing with Kiev. However, following the US-Ukraine talks in Jeddah, the US expressed willingness to resume military assistance.

“I had somebody that didn’t seem to want peace. Now he’s agreed to peace. So we’ll see what happens,”Trump said of Zelensky, who was present in Saudi Arabia but did not personally take part in the negotiations.

Asked on Wednesday whether he would similarly put pressure on Moscow, Trump suggested he could takefinancial measures that would be “devastating for Russia,” but hoped such actions would not be necessary.

“I don’t want to do that because I want to see peace, and we’re getting close to maybe getting something done,” Trump said. “We’ve had a good relationship with both parties, actually, and we’ll see…[our] people are going to Russia right now as we speak, and hopefully, we can get a ceasefire from Russia. And if we do, I think that would be 80% of the way to getting this horrible bloodbath finished.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday that Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, will be traveling to Moscow later this week to deliver the US ceasefire proposal.

Kremlin spokesman Peskov stated that Moscow is “carefully studying” the outcome of the US-Ukraine talks but cautioned against drawing premature conclusions. He emphasized that Russia first needs to receive “detailed information” on the proposed ceasefire.

Russian officials have previously argued that a temporary truce would not resolve the conflict, insisting that the root problems must be addressed instead. Moscow has suggested that any pause in hostilities would only allow Kiev and its backers to rearm and prepare for a new round of fighting.

Trump said he could punish Russia with financial measures if Putin doesn't accept the ceasefire:

So Putin see’s this info yesterday and what PDJT discussed. All of Putin's aids and leaders saying they won’t participate in the ceasefire. Then Putin comes out with two articles in RT saying, "he’d be thrilled to accept it" (not thrilled), but asks a lot of questions how it would work. And President Putin needs to discuss with his counterpart, President Donald J. Trump.

So there is a lot of communication or replies to each other through the media. I've read the Russian's are very careful and hold their cards to the chest in all discussions and negotiations, I would too, like Trump seems to do, but no one understands it.

Soros-linked group adds US to human rights watchlist

CIVICUS has claimed President Donald Trump’s executive orders threaten democracy

A group of NGOs linked to billionaire George Soros hasplaced the US on a watchlist of “countries with faltering civic freedoms,” citing executive orders signed by President Donald Trump since he assumed office in January. (Trump write an EO on Soros foundations, all the subsidies and NGO’s on a watch list of Insurrectionists. Kick Alex out the US.)

According to the South African-based CIVICUS, the Trump administration has launched an “assault on democratic norms and global cooperation.” (sorry there are no democratic norms and global cooperation, what a wimpy charge)

“[The] United States, once a global champion of democracy and human rights, joins the first 2025 watchlist along with Democratic Republic of Congo, Italy, Pakistan, and Serbia,” the organization said in a statement on Monday.

“Unprecedented executive orders designed to unravel democratic institutions, rule of law, and global cooperation raise alarm,” it added, citing Trump’s decision to withdraw from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), and the dismantling of the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

Trump terminated US membership in the WHO and UNHRC over an alleged lack of reforms, disproportionate financial contributions, and their handling of international crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

USAID, Washington's primary channel for sending money to causes abroad, was accused of misusing taxpayer money and fostering corruption, and had most of its employees laid off or placed on leave.

Placing countries on the list aims to highlight an alleged “decline in respect for civic space,” and to pressure the governments to “end the ongoing crackdowns,” CIVICUS said.

A self-proclaimed “global alliance of civil society organizations and activists working to strengthen citizen action,” CIVICUS has received funding from the Open Society Foundations (OSF), established by Hungarian-American financier Soros, according to Spanish outlet Okdiario.

Soros is well known for financing liberal causes and political candidates across the Western world. The 94-year-old has been a significant donor to the Democratic Party. Most recently, Soros has been accused of spending millions of dollars to block Trump’s political agenda, a claim that has been supported by the US president’s close ally and adviser, Elon Musk.

Excellent now President Trump can add all Soro’s Attorney Generals, Prosecutors in US cities, along with all Soros funded NGO’s can be added to the “US & World Watchlist, for attack on Democracy of the US, and trying to destroy independent countries, and denying constitutional protection for every US Citizen, and we can kick out the SOROS org with all his NGO’s and activist organizations.Hungary and Russia banned all Soros orgs why can’t the US do it?Plus Soros orgs should be prosecuted by using USAID to run a destruction plan on the US Government and Citizens in America. They either stop their activism against our country or they get prosecuted and/or banned for the lifetime of the orgs and the NGO’s.
