Defending San Francisco Values. (fuckin sic)
Donald Trump and Elon Musk have offered the Congress a false choice between a government shutdown or a blank check that makes a devastating assault on the well-being of working families across America. Let’s be clear: neither is a good option for the American people. But this false choice that some are buying instead of fighting is unacceptable. I salute Leader Hakeem Jeffries for his courageous rejection of this false choice, and I am proud of my colleagues in the House Democratic Caucus for their overwhelming vote against this bill.
Earlier this week, I took to the House Floor to oppose the Republican funding bill and highlight its betrayal of America’s veterans. Instead of honoring our sacred commitment to those who have served, the bill slashed nearly $23 billion from veterans’ benefits—gutting critical programs that care for those exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances.
With this week’s legislation, Republicans have betrayed hardworking American taxpayers and broken their promise to our veterans. House Democrats will always stand up for those who served our nation – fighting to protect the health, education, and economic security of America’s heroes.

Strengthening San Francisco’s Future
It was my honor to welcome San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu and community leaders from the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce to the Capitol this week for a thoughtful and productive conversation on how we can strengthen our local economy. We discussed ways to support small businesses, provide relief for working families and create good-paying jobs that ensure long-term economic stability.
San Francisco’s resilience depends on collaboration between policymakers, business leaders and community advocates – and these conversations are essential to shaping policies that foster growth and opportunity. I am grateful for the insights we shared and remain committed to working together to build an economy that works for all.

American Rescue Plan Legacy
Four years ago, the American Rescue Plan was signed into law, delivering critical relief to families, workers, and small businesses during the pandemic. This landmark legislation expanded access to health care, lifted millions of children out of poverty, and put money directly into the pockets of hardworking Americans.
Democrats fought to lower health care costs and strengthen Medicaid, ensuring millions of families could get the care they need. Now, Republicans are plotting to rip away these vital protections—slashing Medicaid and handing tax breaks to their billionaire donors. We won’t let them. House Democrats are committed to protecting affordable health care and fighting for America’s working families.

Supporting San Francisco's Business Community
This week, I had the pleasure of meeting with Michelle Gass, CEO of Levi Strauss & Co.: a key part of San Francisco’s business community for generations. We discussed the company’s vision for the future and the impact of new tariffs on American businesses and consumers.
Levi Strauss & Co. has long been a leader in sustainability and innovation and continues to play a vital role in our local economy. I’m committed to supporting policies that help businesses like Levi Strauss & Co. thrive and ensure San Francisco remains a hub for economic growth and opportunity.
