EU could take over RFE/RL – Kallas

The bloc will discuss saving the state-funded media outlet hit by Donald Trump’s spending cuts

TheEU will discuss ways to help the US state-funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) stay afloatafter President Donald Trump slashed its budget, the bloc’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, has said.

RFE/RL was founded during the Cold War to spread pro-Western propaganda in the Soviet Bloc. The organization was initially funded by the CIAand continues to receive grants from US Congress.

A reporter asked Kallas following the Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels on Monday whether the EU would offer “temporary protection” to Russian journalists who had their contracts terminated. She argued that RFE/RL’s broadcasts during the Cold War were “very valuable.”

“It is sad to hear that the US is withdrawing the funding. Now the question for us is, can we come in with our funding to fill the void?” Kallas said. “The answer to that question is… not automatically because we have a lot of organizations that are coming with the same request.”

“But there was really a push from the foreign ministers to discuss this and find a way. So this is the [task of] our side to see what we can do,”she added.

The European Commission and officials from EU member states have condemned Trump’s decision to gut the news agency. Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky wrote on X last week that he would discuss the possibility to “at least partially maintain its broadcasts.” Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said on Monday that the EU was “brainstorming” how to help RFE, according to The Kyiv Independent.

On March 14, Trump signed an executive order mandating funding and staff cuts at the United States Agency for Global Media, which oversees RFE/RL and other state-funded news organizations, including the Voice of America. The White House said that the move is part of a wider campaign to rid the government of “unnecessary” bureaucracy. Trump has frequently accused media outlets of bias and spreading “fake news” about him and his policies.

FRE/RL President and CEO Stephen Capus has described the cuts as “a massive gift to America’s enemies.”

In a call with journalists on Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov labelled RFE/RL and the Voice of America “purely propagandistic media” and said that the cuts were the domestic affair of the US.

Stephen Miller Rejects DC Judge Boasberg Legal Authority Over “National Security” Matters

During the Q&A session, Mr Miller discussed the administration’s position against the extrajudicial ruling of DC Judge James Boasberg, who attempts to inject himself into the ‘national security’ authorities of President Trump and direct both national security and foreign policy as it relates to criminal illegal aliens.

Simultaneous to this presser, Judge Boasberg– who previously celebrated President Trump being dragged into court –was questioning DOJ lawyers about the criminal alien deportation process. President Trump’s lawyers are correctly using the ‘national security’ argument that removes Judge Boasberg’s ability to inject himselfinto the issue.

Boasberg is furious.

Judge Boasberg: So, you’re saying we were outside of airspace so no jurisdiction?

DOJ: No, “removal” happens when they left US, so that means they were already removed, which is what the Court order pertains to.

Judge Boasberg: Equitable power has extraterritorial reach; you can’t violate it.

[…] Deputy Associate Attorney General Abhishek Kambli said the foreign policy concerns related to the operation were paramount.

“These arrangements were the result of intensive and delicate negotiationsbetween the United States and El Salvador,” he said.

DOJ further frustrated Boasberg by refusing to provide almost any detailsabout the deportation operation, repeatedly invoking national security to defend the secrecy.

“Why are you showing up today and not having answersto why you can’t even disclose it to me?” the judge asked.(if they didn’t show up they would penalize them)

As the hearing neared its conclusion,Boasberg demanded that the government answer — by noon tomorrow— a series of questions about the flights and their passengers, as well as exactly when Trump signed the proclamation calling for the alleged gang members to be expelled from the country. He also ordered the filing of more briefs on the legal arguments in the case. (That’s not going to happen, he’s not privy to knowing Presidential Plans, powers and decisions)

President Trump will Speak with Russian President Putin on Tuesday

Some interesting developments in the aftermath of special envoy Steve Witkoff spending four hours in discussions with President Vladimir Putin.

After Witkoff relayed the substance of the lengthy Putin meeting, the White House and President Trump announced a phone call between Trump and Putin is scheduled for Tuesday. The Kremlin have confirmed the call schedule.

It is important to stay focused on the factual aspectsto these ongoing negotiations. President Putin’s public statements after the Witkoff meeting essentially said Russia agrees in principle with the need for a ceasefire, and the details of coordinating a 2,000km long point of conflict need to be worked out.

Meanwhile, in somewhat of a surprise statement, Vladyslav Vlasiuk, President VolodymyrZelenskyy’s commissioner for sanctions policy, said they are open to the removal of economic sanctionsagainst Russia as part of a negotiated peace deal.

DOJ Argues with Power-Hungry Obama Judge Who Ordered Trump Admin to Turn Around Planes Deporting Venezuelan Gang Members in Dramatic Court Hearing

A radical judge who ordered the Trump Administration to turn around planes deporting Venezuelan gang members argued with DOJ lawyers about his “equitable powers” on Monday during a dramatic hearing.

As previously reported, on Saturday morning, Judge James Boasberg, an Obama-appointee, granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) to stop the Trump administration from deporting thousands of Venezuelan nationals under the Alien Enemies Act.

Far-left America-hating leftist groups such as the ACLU and Democracy Forward, rushed to a DC court in a desperate bid to shield dangerous illegal aliens from deportation.

Later Saturday, Judge Boasberg issued an emergency injunction (it wasn’t filed yet)and ordered the Trump Administration to turn around planes that were deporting dangerous Tren de Aragua Venezuelan gang members.

“Any plane containing these folks that is going to take off or is in the air needs to be returned to the United States however that is accomplished,” Boasberg said in an oral order, according to Politico. “Make sure it’s complied with immediately.”

There were reportedly two flights en route to Central America.

On Sunday morning, El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele mocked Judge Boasberg after two flights from the US carrying approximately 300 Venezuelan aliens and other gang members landed in El Salvador.

Later Sunday, the Trump DOJ provided an update to Boasberg’s orderand said the criminal aliens were outside of US territory when the order came down.

On Monday, Trump’s DOJ obliterated Judge Boasberg during a contentious hearing over the Trump Administration’s deportation of criminal Venezuelan aliens.

The DOJ argued that Judge Boasberg has zero jurisdiction over international airspace.

Judge Boasbergrepeatedly claimed he has “equitable powers” to stop planes in midair.

The judge demanded to know:

1) How many planes departed US on Saturday carrying anyone based on Proclamation;

2) How many people in each category;

3) What foreign country/countries did they landed;

4) Time took off & wear; time you contend left US air space; what time landed in each country; what time transferred into that countries custody

The DOJ hit back against a demand for a sworn declaration andsaid it is not necessary because the government complied with the order.

The planes had already departed so the aliens were technically already removed from US territory.

The DOJ said the judge’s oral order on Saturday to turn the planes around was not an injunction.

The DOJ also argued that the aliens were already removed when the judge’s order came down.

The power-hungry judge hit backand claimed his equitable power has extraterritorial reach.

Judge Boasberg told the DOJ that he has the power to order the Trump Admin to return planes.

The DOJ told the judge that the President has authority of military forces.

Judge Boasberg ordered the DOJ to confirm no one else will be removed from the US and give a sworn declaration that the third flight over the weekend was not subject to his Proclamation.

The judge gave the DOJ until Tuesday to answer his questions.

Later Monday, the Trump DOJ asked the appeals court to intervene.
