BREAKING:A federal judge in Washington, D.C., has issued a preliminary injunction on Tuesday, stopping the Trump administration’s attempt to prohibit transgender individuals from serving in the military.
In the case of Talbott v. Trump, U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes determined that the policy likely infringes upon the constitutional rights of transgender service members. The judge noted that the government did not present sufficient evidence to justify how barring transgender individuals supports a valid military objective. This ruling represents a notable obstacle to the Trump administration’s goal of excluding transgender troops from the armed forces.
In a concise three-page decision, Judge Reyes found that Executive Order 14183, which enacted the administration’s policy, likely breaches constitutional safeguards. As a result, she directed the Department of Defense to uphold the previous guidelines that permitted transgender people to serve without concealment.
