I really enjoyed Tenant's run as The Doctor. After that it became woke though, so I'd recommend up to Tenant if you're going to check that series out.
Forgot about Matt Smith's run after Tenant. His version one was decent too. I stopped watching after they switched him out for a lady doctor.
There hasn't been a character he portrayed that I didn't like except the one he did in that 2022 capefag flick disaster called Morbius. Pretty sure that falls into the "handed bad stories" part you mentioned.
I blame Leto. His overacting has always ruined the suspending of disbelief for me, it's like he's not portraying a character but giving his caricature of a character for me. Would have been better a story with a different actor in the role, IMO.
