Update(1220ET): Fresh off a Wednesday morning phone call with President Trump, Zelensky has said that he backs the US proposal to halt all strikes on energy facilities in the context of the Ukraine war, according to Bloomberg. Still, he has at the same time vowed to 'win this war'.

Just hours prior, overnight, Ukrainian drones had targeted a Russian oil facility in Krasnodar Region, resulting in damage and a large fire at a oil tank. The one-hour phone call was described as "very good" by Trump on Truth Social.

"Much of the discussion was based on the call made yesterday with President Putin in order to align both Russia and Ukraine in terms of their requests and needs," the president wrote.

"We are very much on track, and I will ask Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, to give an accurate description of the points discussed."

Female Indiana teacher faces charges of child molestation over forcing teens to have group sex while wearing 'Scream' masks: prosecutors

Brittany Fortinberry, 31, of Martinsville, faces up to 262 years in prison if convicted.

In December 2024, a woman came forward to police to report that her minor grandson had been allegedly molested by Fortinberry several times beginning October 2023. This resulted in Fortinberry's February arrest.

Five more alleged victims have come forward since February, including a 14-year-old who claimed Fortinberry bought him and other minor boys dinners, expensive gifts, weed, vapes, and THC cartridges in exchange for sexual favors. The victim also claimed that Fortinberry sent nude photos of herself to him via Snapchat.

Fortinberry allegedly gave the teen and other victims capsules containing shrooms before initiating sex acts, prosecutors wrote. The victim told police that Fortinberry forced him and two of his friends to have sex with her while wearing "Ghostface" masks from the "Scream" movies.

Queensland music teacher is accused of disturbing act with a student

Nicholas Campbell charged with sexual assault

A Queensland music teacher will face trial for allegedly sexually abusing a child in 1996.

Nicholas Campbell, 54, is currently employed at Matthew Flinders Anglican College in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast, but his alleged offending relates to his time at a different school.

He appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault where the victim was under the authority of the offender.

He was granted bail and is due to face court in Grafton NSW on April 14.

Prosecutors said the charges related to an alleged student-teacher relationship, the ABC reported.

Two of the alleged incidents occurred on the same day, while another took place later that month.

The prosecution opposed bail, describing Campbell's alleged offending as 'serious,' and said it had concerns about his mental health.

Campbell's lawyer said he had been aware of the complaint since 2020 when it had been expected to progress as a civil matter.

Johnathan Buma, a 15-year veteran of the bureau, allegedly shared text messages, internal documents and other classified information with associates, including as part of a prospective book he began writing about his career as an FBI agent.

Beginning in Oct. 2023, Buma “printed approximately 130 files from the FBI’s internal network … some of which were clearly marked with warnings that made clear that the information was to be protected,” according to charging documents.

“Buma also printed nine text-file documents which contained text that had been copied and pasted from reports that were marked in such a way that made clear that the information must be protected,” the charging documents said..

In the ensuing weeks, Buma allegedly shared a draft of a book he had written about his career at the FBI with “associates” over email. The draft allegedly included details about “the FBI’s investigations into a foreign country’s weapons of mass destruction (‘WMDs’) program,” the charging document alleges.

Trump Seeks Russian Support For War On Iran

The readouts from the U.S. and Russian side about yesterday's phone call between President Trump and President Putin has me concerned about the potential of another war in the Middle East.

The Russian readout has 674 words. It is quite specific about Ukraine issues. There is a two sentences paragraph about the Middle East:

Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump also addressed some other international issues, including the situation in the Middle East and in the Red Sea region. Joint efforts will be made to stabilise the situation in the crisis spots and establish cooperation on nuclear non-proliferation and global security.

What those 'joint efforts' might be is not specified.

With just 227 words the U.S. readout is much shorter. There is much less on Ukraine. A whole one fourth of the readout is with concern to the Middle East:

Recently leaked documents point to major U.S. planning for a war with Iran. The suddenly renewed U.S. bombing of Yemen, despite no recent attacks by Ansarallah on international shipping, seem to be a provocation towards that:

The October deadline is drawing closer by the day for invoking the snapback clause in the JCPOA (2015 Iran nuclear deal) to reinstate UN Security Council sanctions will expire, and Iran’s enrichment programme, on the other hand, has apparently reached a point where it already has a stockpile to make “several” nuclear bombs, per the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Iran however has Russian and Chinese backing:

On March 14, China’s foreign minister Wang Yi hosted a joint meeting in Beijing with the Russian and Iranian deputy foreign ministers where he proposed five points “on the proper settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue”, which, for all purposes endorsed Tehran’s stance. Interestingly, the Beijing meeting was timed to coincide with the conclusion of a 6-day naval exercise at Iran’s Chabahar Port with the theme of Creating Peace and Security Together between the navies of Iran, Russia and China.

Moscow has lately waded into the Iran nuclear issue and is positioning itself for a mediatory role potentially. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently came out against attaching extraneous issues (eg., verifiable arrangements by Tehran to ensure the cessation of its support for resistance groups in Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria) to the nuclear negotiations. Lavrov said frankly, “Such a thing is unlikely to yield results.”

Before the renewed bombing of Yemen Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov had their own phone call. The short U.S. readout said:

The Secretary informed Russia of U.S. military deterrence operations against the Iran-backed Houthis and emphasized that continued Houthi attacks on U.S. military and commercial shipping vessels in the Red Sea will not be tolerated.

It did not mention that Russia spoke out against it:

The Russian Foreign Ministry, in a readout on Saturday, stated that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called Lavrov and informed him about the US decision to attack the Houthis. It said Lavrov, in response, “emphasised the need for an immediate cessation of the use of force and the importance of all parties engaging in political dialogue to find a solution that prevents further bloodshed.” Well, the shoe is on the other foot now, isn’t it?

Trump seems to believe that he can gain Russia's support, or at least its neutrality, in a futile conflict with Iran, by offering to end the U.S. proxy war in Ukraine.

Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer saved millions of taxpayer dollars by slashing grants to foreign countries that were similar to those of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Breitbart News has learned exclusively.

Secretary Chavez-DeRemer was sworn in a week ago and has already made headway into trimming the budget at the Department of Labor (DOL) by slashing tens of millions of dollars in grants to foreign countries to shore up their labor policies.

Breitbart News has learned exclusively that the Labor Department has sent taxpayer dollars overseas. The cuts DeRemer has made so far include:

Cutting a $1.5 million grant to enhance transparency and accountability in Uzbekistan’s cotton industry

Eliminating a $7 million grant promoting climate change policies and practices in Brazil, Chile, South Africa, and Colombia

Scrapping $18 million in grants promoting collective bargaining in Brazil, Colombia, Cote D’Ivoire, Indonesia, and Guatemala

Slashing a $1.5 million grant to improve compliance in workplace standards for the country of Georgia

Many of these grants are similar to those of USAID, which sent untold millions of dollars to foreign governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other groups.

The canceled foreign grants follow Secretary Chavez-DeRemer’s declaration on day one as head of the Labor Department that the department would move to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse.

In a memo last week to executive staff and agency heads within the DOL, she ordered a review of budgets to identify opportunities to cut “wasteful contract spending” and recommend ways to “cut redundancies and low-performing employees.”

Israeli Troops, Tanks Start New Ground Offensive In Gaza

Over a day after it restarted aerial bombings of Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have resumed "focused ground operations" in the "center of the Gaza Strip" over the past 24 hours.

As we observed earlier, clearly an indefinite all-out war is back on, and the collapsed ceasefire will not be put back together anytime soon. The IDF says it has "re-expanded their control to the center of the Netzarim" corridor, which is the buffer zone that separates northern Gaza from the south.

Withdrawal from Netzarim had been part of phase one of the 2-month ceasefire, thus much of the diplomatic work done during that time has now been effectively reversed.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz told the Palestinians that "the evacuation of the population from the battle zones" in Gaza will "begin again soon," in a video message Wednesday.

"Take the advice of the U.S. President. Return the hostages and eliminate Hamas, and other options will open up for you - including going to other places in the world for those who wish," Katz said.

However, the border crossing with Egypt is currently closed, and so hundreds of thousands of civilians will have nowhere to go. The new IDF operation has included the movement of tank units deeper into Gaza.

Gaza’s Health Ministry had said as of Tuesday least 436 Palestinians, including 183 children, have been killed since Israel resumed the bombardment.

Gaza's hospitals are once again under immense strain:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) warns that medics are struggling to manage a sharp increase in casualties over the last 36 hours due to the resumption of ground operations by Israel in the Gaza Strip.

“Due to the recent suspension of humanitarian aid into Gaza, stocks of medical supplies have dropped significantly and on top of this, hospital staff are struggling to manage the sharp increase of casualties,” the ICRC said in a statement.

The day prior, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu declared "this is just the beginning" regarding the Gaza operation - and also expressed appreciation in the comments for US military help against the Houthis of Yemen. He had further said negotiations can take place "only under fire".

The White House has said it was aware that Israeli was gearing up for another round of military attacks, and that it's given a greenlight to the Israeli strikes. This comes after Trump for weeks floated a controversial plan to expel Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, which international groups have condemned as ethnic cleansing.

Victorian crime at highest rate since 2016, driven by car thefts and young offenders

Victoria's crime rate has risen to its highest level since 2016, according to the latest crime statistics.

The Crime Statistics Agency (CSA) released its figures for the 12 months to December 31, 2024, showing the overall rate of recorded offences increased by 13.2 per cent.

The biggest increase was in property and deception offences, which rose by 21.9 per cent in 2024.

CSA chief statistician Fiona Dowsley said the record figures were being driven by thefts.

"The rate of theft offences being recorded per 100,000 Victorians has exceeded historical peaks, driven by record-high numbers of steal from motor vehicle, steal from retail store and motor vehicle theft offences recorded by Victoria Police in 2024," she said.

"These increasingly prevalent theft offences can be opportunistic in nature and may be linked to cost-of-living pressures, especially for increases in shoplifting where increases are linked to adult offenders often in their 30s.

"Younger alleged offenders tend to be involved in theft offences involving motor vehicles."

Rise in crime rate 'unacceptable'

Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Regional Operations, Bob Hill, said the rising crime rate was "totally unacceptable."

"The sad reality is that more crime equates to more victims involving members of community, who in some cases, will be impacted for life," he said.

"Our police members continue to display extraordinary professionalism in doing what they can to protect the community."

Police said the rise in thefts from motor vehicles was partly due to criminals using electronic devices to break into cars.

Biographer claims police were aware of Frank Arkell's links to child sex ring a decade before arrest

The deaths of two former Wollongong lord mayors accused of child sexual abuse more than 20 years ago have prevented the seaside city from closing one of its darkest chapters.

But a new book has shed further light on the lives of Frank Arkell and Tony Bevan, revealing police may have known about their alleged crimes more than a decade before they first came to light.

Allegations that Mr Arkell was part of a Wollongong paedophile ring were publicised in 1996 when he was named in the NSW Parliament by Labor MP Franca Arena.

Mr Arkell was due to stand trial in September 1998 on five sexual abuse charges relating to four men.

Months before his trial was due to start, the once-popular politician known as "Mr Wollongong" was brutally murdered in his West Wollongong home.

In a new biography, Politics, Pride and Perversions: The Rise and Fall of Frank Arkell, author Erik Eklund scrutinised Mr Arkell as well as Mr Bevan who the author claimed led a "parallel life" to Mr Arkell.

Both were Catholics of a similar age who served as lord mayor of Wollongong — and both were accused of child sex crimes.

After Mr Bevan died from cancer in 1991, an extensive collection of secret phone recordings he made of his paedophile associates, known as "the Bevan Tapes", were made public.

The tapes were provided to the Royal Commission into the NSW Police Service, known as the Wood Royal Commission, which identified Mr Bevan as the leader of a Wollongong paedophile ring.

Eklund said from the early 1980s, police in Wollongong and Dapto were aware of Mr Bevan's child sexual assault activities and his links to Frank Arkell.

"There were three or four written statements taken by boys and young men about Bevan," he said.

"Part of those records included an intelligence file, which indicated that Frank Arkell was a known associate of Tony Bevan.

'Shame' police didn't act sooner

Current Wollongong City Councillor Andrew Anthony said as a young boy he knew Frank Arkell as a friend of the Greek community who helped set up the Wollongong Hellenic Club.

"We had fairly fond memories of Frank because he was very good to the Greek community," Councillor Anthony recalled.

But he also remembered being told when he was a teenager not to leave his younger brothers alone with the mayor, a fact he still has difficulty reconciling.

"There's a term in psychology we call cognitive dissonance," Councillor Anthony said.

"I still struggle to come to terms with the fact that, at one level, Frank did so many good things for the community, but at the same time there was this dark side of his life."

Trump will run again in 2028 – Steve Bannon

The ex-White House strategist said that he is working to help the 47th president bypass the two-term limit

The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution states that “no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” Bannon, who has been one of Trump’s early supporters and led his 2016 election campaign, has argued that Trump would be able to secure a third term.

“I’m a firm believer that President Trump will run again in 2028. I’ve already endorsed President Trump,” Bannon told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo on Wednesday.

“A man like this comes along once every century if we’re lucky. We’ve got him now. He’s on fire, and I’m a huge supporter. I want to see him again in 2028,” he added.

Asked how Trump would bypass the constitutional ban on a third term, Bannon replied, “We’re working on it.”

“I think we’ll have a couple of alternatives, let’s say that. We’ll see what the definition of term limit is,” the former Breitbart News chairman said.

“We’ve had greater longshots than Trump 2028. We’ve got a lot of stuff we’re working on. We’re not prepared to talk about it publicly.

When asked if he was implying a violent revolution or an insurrection, Bannon said, “No. We are big believers in democracy.” The strategist said that the Trump supporters intend to mobilize their voting base, including low-propensity and low-information voters.
